Professional cycling is well covered by the mainstream media. The racing, the action can all be found on TV and online. What goes on behind the scenes, the banter, celebrating on the mountain, the food and what it's like to be there - as a regular person, is something not well captured yet. Cycling Maven wants to bring you that experience from within the Three Grand Tours of 2017.
After the huge success of the 2016 Tour De France vlog series, Cycling Maven brings you season two - The 2017 Grand Tour vlog series.
Cycling Maven and Hannah will create daily vlogs giving you a behind the scenes view of these multi stage races.
We'll give you interviews with the riders. Bike tech's with team mechanics. Chats with team managers. Fun with the fans and locals. Plus you'll get a first hand insight into the towns, food, culture and the things to see and do.
If this project goes over funding, we'll progress onto the Tour De France and likewise, the Vuelta a Espana.
We invite you join in on this ride!!
I’m the Youtuber Cycling Maven (Mark Ferguson) from Melbourne and I’ve been creating regular vlogs on my cycling based YouTube channel for two years.
My cycling journey started with 30km rides with my Dad at the age of eight. This lead to racing by the time I was 15 years old. To this day I continue to race at club level in my forties.
Through my YouTube journey, I have had the privilege of meeting some of the biggest hitters within the cycling industry sharing their experiences and valued knowledge and have created a community of cracking humans.
My partner of five years, Hannah (who plays a major role in the success of the vlog) will be joining me on this adventure. Whilst she isn’t an avid cyclist, she enjoys being part of the community and connects with both my cycling and non cycling audience.
In 2016 Mark went to the Tour De France and ‘vlogged’ from the event. The viewers LOVED IT! and this KickStarter campaign has been created to enable Mark to continue providing 1st class cycling content for the Cycling Maven YouTube channel.
In 2017, Hannah and Mark will embark on a journey around Europe, following the three grand cycling tours - The Giro D’ Italia, Le Tour De France and the Vuelta a Espana.
They’ll take the DJI drone, vlogging camera gear, a Canyon bike and copious amounts excitement. They will depart on the 1st of May headed for Rome and hope to fly out of Madrid in late September.
The trip will provide an opportunity to document an insiders perspective of these three great professional cycling events that few may ever get to experience. Hannah and Mark will immerse themselves in all aspects of the tours - from interviews, technical reviews to the different cultures while showcasing the beauty of their experiences.
Mark will daily vlog the journey, offering a daily behind the scenes experience of the trip.
Hannah will bring a lifestyle and travel element to the vlogs through her love of food, wine and art history which she studied at school.
The trip will require months of constant travelling, to and from each of the races.
Kickstarter provides us complete control of the content, and removes the creative restrictions associated with using investors or sponsors.
Kickstarter also allows us to interact with our supporters, to share the adventure more intimately. It allows us to give back.
The $25,000 goal is the minimum we require for basic costs in order to produce the vlogs from the Giro. If this goal exceeds beyond $35,000, we will continue on to the Tour De France. If it exceeds $45,000 we will continue on to the Vuelta a Espana.
If the Kickstarter is unsuccessful, we will still cover the Giro D'Italia but it will be limited. Unfortunately we cannot afford to pay for all the necessary expenses required from our personal savings. That's why we need your help and we appreciate all contributions.
Mark and Hannah.
