Here I Come a Scheduling Among the Leaves So Green…

Hello, Backers (spoiler image ahead),

Timelines

As we move into the holiday season, I wanted to let everyone know where we are. Some of of us will be taking off next week for the Christmas holiday, but the group that will be around will be finishing up the final pieces and testing the game extensively. We just upgraded to Unreal engine 4.10.1, and it was the smoothest upgrade yet. A few industry vets have had a chance to check out the game, and we’ve gotten some great feedback. We have a lot of tuning to do, but the game is feeling great.

So what is the plan in the new year? Well, we need to test and optimize, then rinse and repeat. Tim Sweeney, one of the founders of Epic games, summed up game development nicely, "In game development, the first 90% of a project is a lot easier than the second 90%." He is absolutely right. We are on that second 90%, and we are working harder then ever.

GDC

We are very pleased to announce that the Game Developers Conference has officially accepted Eric Anderson's (our Art Director here at Cyan) presentation "Building Obduction: Cyan's Custom UE4 Art Tools." If you plan on attending GDC, you can find more information here.

Limited Edition Art Print Box Set

This beautiful, limited-edition Myst art print box features 5 fine-art-quality giclee prints corresponding to each Age in the original Myst game. These images are high resolution renderings from the original Myst models that have been gently enhanced. The box and prints come with a Certificate of Authenticity that is hand-signed by Myst co-creator Rand Miller. More info here.

Thanks, Ryan

Your HQ picture is so cool with the snow. Heh, you should make it a location in the game

I sit on pins and needles awaiting Obduction. Patience is a virtue knowing this will be a most wonderful game. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to All!

I know I'm probably beating a dead horse, but I still cling to the hope that Obduction will make it to Linux. UE4 has native support and with Steam investing heavily in it now...
Well, will play Obduction no matter what, of course.

Of course we are looking forward to the game, but creative products take time. Keep up the good work. The updates are appreciated. Patience is not so hard if the quality at the end point is equal or better then that of Myst. Enjoy the holidays.

Great to see you've made some Fine Art Prints out of the Myst original images, it should make great collectors items. Let me tell you that I work in the fine art industry, and the paper brand you've chosen for the set (Hahnemuhle) is undoubtedly THE BEST in terms of colour, quality and longevity paper-wise. They've been around for over 400 years as a company and I've known and worked with them for many many years (still do actually as a supplier) and its nice to see it appear as a Myst product.

Tim Sweeney's comment could apply to most software development, not just games.

Fantastic! Loved the worlds in Myst and Riven and looking forward to this one even more!

You know .....I think I'm looking forward to this release about as much as I'm looking forward to Star Wars....maybe more.....it is more interactive after all, and will last much longer.

Happy Holidays to everyone there at Cyan and all involved.

Any chance of getting a similar art print box for Riven? I'd be all over that.

The "second 90%" bit made me laugh out loud. I know the feeling, hang in there!

That screenshot is really cool! I wonder what that place will be?

We love you guys. Keep on keeping on!

At least 90% is finished.... the last 10% is the other 90%... it's like watching windows download and install updates, the first 90% is done within 5 minutes and the last 10% is like... 5 hours or so... ok, maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit...

    15. David Höfle on

hmm? 90%+90%=180% ... so at what percentage is the game finished?

    16. Dana "Mystdee" Brightman on

Looks good!!! Happy Holidays to ALL of you at Cyan!

I wish to see all Myst games on GOG! :)

Yeah, the link to the Myst box set only works from the actual Kickstarter page, NOT the email. The email has a goo.gl tinyurl that results in an "Access Denied" error from Sendgrid.

Getting access denied on the link, but looking good!
