Quick Update

We have all had our noses to the grindstone (ouch!), so we were all happily surprised when the Obduction T-shirts started arriving on our doorsteps. These were special T-shirts made just for supporters of our campaign. Everyone who supported at the $125 level or higher (or paid for a T-shirt add-on) should see their shirt(s) arriving in the next few days.

We will announce a few other things at Mysterium this weekend.

My previous post was meant for the latest update. It can be deleted from here.

We had an agreement. We would provide you the funding and you would make the game. All of the details of this agreement were set by you. This update sounds like the gambler who lost the rent and comes looking for an extension. Instead of making the thing you agreed to you got greedy. Hoping that if it worked no one would call you out on it. And even if it did work, you had already decided that you were comfortable letting the timeline slip - I mean, you already HAVE our money, right? But now that your bet has turned out to be bad, now you return to us looking for forgiveness.

"[D]elayed by a few months" is the difference between having it soon, and not getting it until after Christmas or later. You unilaterally decided this for all of us and even if this "improved" version had gone through, it would still be a betrayal of the agreement we had. A betrayal you hoped would be overlooked when you arrived as some kind of Santa Claus with an "Even Better" game.

The lack of updates wasn't because you were busy. It was because you were hoping to reveal this as some kind of fait accompli. Letting us know before now would have allowed for people to voice their objections. These are not the actions of someone who values the very people that made this project possible. They are the actions of someone who looks at us as a stepping stone to be used to achieve something else. A something else that didn't happen.

New post to development blog is up. Enjoy.…

    5. Richard A. Watson (Cyantist) on September 30, 2015

No, it means there will be an update when there is an update. Your continued patience is appreciated. New post to development blog coming very soon. Tonight or tomorrow. It will explain a few things, but not everything.

If there's no update, then you're leaving your promise of delivery " mid-to-late 2015" stand, right?

    7. Richard A. Watson (Cyantist) on September 30, 2015

We are well aware that y'all want an update. We want to give you one. We thought we would be able to make an announcement on Sept. 1st, but that has not worked out. The delay is not on our end, but we need to wait for all the pieces to be in place.

The game is coming along very nicely. It is going to be amazing. A little more patience, and we will tell you as much as we can as soon as we can.

Almost two months since a quick update... Now how about some news? Delays, issues, whatever but keeping us in the dark is not the way to do it. I would not be upset if you told us we have issues and it might be spring before its ready... Dragging us on and not telling us anything is the way to upset us.

Hello! Sorry to trouble you, but my shirt never arrived. Where should I be looking to be sure my address is correct and everything?

I too would like to request a real production update. I will totally understand if it's delayed and it will certainly be worth the wait, but the silence is worse than bad news.

I'd like to request a real update on development progress. It's been months with no word, and the original release target is next month. The closest thing I could find for the current status of the game is that it's "going to be a little late," from the Mysterium event (…). What does that mean?

How about a real update, instead of a quick one?

      "a targeted release of mid-to-late 2015."

We're 2/3 of the way through 2015, so past "mid" and not yet "late." I understand that software often takes longer than planned. But, I also expect honest and timely updates, so it's a bit too late to announce any significant delay beyond the expectation which has been set.

I've had mine for a couple weeks, now. I have to say, this is a really nice t-shirt. I had to cut the tag out - turned into a little razor on the back of my neck. The shirt looks great.

    15. Timothy Cook on August 20, 2015

No shirt yet in Washington state. Address in my response was correct, and it's a shirt tier. Will update when it shows up...

    16. Thomas Bousquet on August 19, 2015

Great news! I'm an international backer from Singapore; any idea when I can expect it to arrive on this side of the planet?

Hey I got my t-shirt yesterday! Super happy, and unexpected. I kinda had to forget about the game after supporting it because the delivery date was so far away I'd go insane! That being said is the game still on course for a late 2015 release, or has it been pushed back?

    26. Jessica Bennett on August 8, 2015

My t-shirt arrived this morning! Love it Thanks guys.

Totally unexpected, especially with none of the symbols we associate with Obduction thus far. The list on the back has to be a puzzle of course. This is Cyan Labs after all, right? Maybe the forums have clues ...

    30. Stuart Honour on August 7, 2015

Very nice that the t shirts are out but how about an update on the game for the early supporters like me!

Pleasant surprise to see this show up at my doorstep yesterday. I saw the back of the shirt first, and thought "yeah, that looks nice. Wait... WHAT?" I look forward to hearing about the significance of the content.
