Pen Type-C is a reliable, flat, durable bookmark pen.
Perfect for everyday carry in a pocket or tucked in a notebook.
It's precision machined out of titanium to house a high quality cartridge that never dries or leaks.
Bent spring steel protects the tip when not in use. Flip it around to snap into writing position.
The scrappy, unassuming, take me anywhere kid sibling of Pen Type-A and Pen Type-B is here, and comes with a detachable clip.
After Pen Type-A, we thought we were done making pens. And after Pen Type-B, we really thought we were done. But after coming across the tiny version of the Pilot Hi-Tec-C ink cartridge (the Coleto), we thought it would be a fun to make the smallest possible, ergonomic pen to carry with us everywhere.
Pen Type-C is our everyday pen.
We take at least one everywhere we go, often slipped into a Studio Sketchbook. This quirky, ultra-functional, minimal design embodies much of what we value in our design practice. It’s precise, a little weird, and lets us work on ideas anytime and anywhere.
Thin enough to be a bookmark.
Pen Type-C is 3.5 mm thin. Save that page you are reading, or slip it into your sketchbook. It's also lightweight, so it won't weigh down your pocket.
An ink cartridge that never dries or leaks.
Pen Type-C is designed to fit the Pilot Hi-Tec-C Coleto ink cartridge. It comes in 15 colors and multiple thicknesses. These cartridges are designed for clicky pens, so they are engineered to be exposed to air and not leak. We’ve been testing these for over two years. It seriously won’t leak in your pocket or dry up.
To replace the ink cartridge, use your new cartridge to snap the old one out. Insert the new cartridge’s tip, and press it into place.
If you have another cartridge you'd rather use, it might fit!
If it's 3mm thick, like Bic style ink cartridges, you can chop off the tail end to make it short enough to fit in Pen Type-C.
Precision machined with quality and longevity in mind.
As with other CW&T products. Pen Type-C is machined out of high quality materials with longevity in mind. It's made of grade 5 titanium with a glass bead blast finish.
You know the drill. We don’t put our names on your stuff.
A detachable clip.
Pen Type-C comes with a durable, stainless steel clip. Keep it anchored to a book, pocket, shirt ... your socks?!
If you'd rather go clipless, you can remove the screws and the clip with a flathead screwdriver.
We began designing Pen Type-C in December 2016. After getting 98% of the way there, we made numerous prototypes out of aluminum and copper on our CNC mill, testing and tweaking dimensions slowly over time. The snappiness when you switch into writing position, the width, thickness, and weight. We tested tons of materials and coatings, from stainless steel, to copper, to aluminum with cerakote and DLC (diamond like carbon).
We spent a lot of time testing the placement of the pivot and length of the bent wire component. You might notice it is not centered to the pen body. This intentionally adds length to the pen when in writing position.
Whenever we'd show Pen Type-C to a friend, the one bit of feedback we often got was it needed a clip.
We tried integrating a clip into the bent wire component. (See crazy looking mouse trap design above.) Then we tried make a clip from a custom bent laser-cut piece of stainless steel, that would snap into place. But it was too hard to make those bends to tolerance. Finally we arrived at our current design, where the clip is attached with two custom made M2 screws.

Who we are
CW&T is the art and design practice of Che-Wei Wang + Taylor Levy. We live in a world of our own making. It's a world where every object has its purpose, although not always purposeful, and where common objects receive uncommon consideration. This is CW&T’s 10th project on Kickstarter. We are @charliewhiskeytango on Instagram, and are CW&T on the internet.
Risks and challenges
This is our 10th campaign! We're committed to delivering the highest quality, most thoughtful work imaginable.
We understand the risks of manufacturing and refuse to compromise quality. If at any point this means a project delay to make sure things are perfect, that's the way we go. Our priority is to make things properly.
When making anything new, there are always unknowns and points of failure. That said, we are accountable to our supporters and do everything in our power to cover our bases so everyone is happy.
We're looking forward to this adventure with you all, whether it's your first, second, third or tenth! time working with us. :)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
