A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.

4/7 UPDATE: Key Wrangler now in brass and copper! Also... black chrome spring and key post.
Key Wrangler is a low-profile stainless steel keychain. It is designed to keep your keys in a tidy row and for quick, easy access from a belt-loop or bag.
Quickly clip/unclip onto belt-loops or bags with a snappy carabiner spring gate. Attach your keys onto a secure, easy to open knurled key post.
A couple years ago we were at an art residency at Pier 9 Autodesk and a few friends were making some pretty cool keychains using the waterjet machine. We thought it was a fun exercise, so we started experimenting. After making complicated + difficult to manufacture pens, we thought it would be great to try and make a product that only required a single manufacturing process.
We tried many many different shapes, sizes, closures, clip methods and geometries to attach keys, but didn't end up with a good keychain. (see more in the prototypes section) Then we got motivated!
Most keychains are either a carabiner (normally used for ropes) used with split rings to attach keys or some sort of loop that doesn't have a clip mechanism.
Key Wrangler is a hybrid of both of these style key holders, remixed in the best way we could imagine. So far, it's the most functional keychain we've come across. We're biased (obviously), but also super picky :) we hope you like it too.
Key Wrangler is custom carabiner with a snappy spring clip and a knurled key post to hold your keys.
The spring clip is made from bent spring steel. It is very durable, extra springy and designed to not get caught on belt loops when you clip/unclip.
The knurled key post is designed to hold keys of all shapes and sizes in a tidy row. Most other keychains rely on split-rings, those impossible to open nail-breaking rings which force your keys into an unruly spiky ball.

The knurled key post is also designed to open and close securely with your fingers. A small nylon pad on its threads provides some extra grip to keep the key post snug and in place on the go.
The knurled key post has a flat screw head to tighten or loosen with a screw driver if ever you want to crank it super tight and open later.
Here we go into some detail about our favorite details...
More more more design features!
And YES! Key Wrangler opens bottles too...
Key Wrangler is available in classic stainless steel or with a Cerakote finish (an ultra-durable ceramic-polymer coating). Grab one in black, if you wanna go stealth. And if you lose your keys a lot, go with flashy orange. We're hoping to offer some other colors down the line, so stay tuned!

As of 4/7, we opened a new pledge tier for a Brass + Copper. If you'd like to add one of these to your existing pledge tier, add an additional $70 to your existing pledge.
As of 4/7, there is an option to get a black spring clip and black key post for your Key Wrangler. You'll be able to select this black hardware when we send out surveys at the end of our campaign.
Here's an image of black on black...we think it looks really snazzy, but you can get black hardware with any material or finish.
This is our best estimated timeline. If there’s one thing we know about manufacturing, it’s to expect delays. We’ll do everything in our power to make sure things move according to schedule, but some things are out of our control. We do not make compromises with the quality of our products. If something is wrong, or subpar, it's not going to ship until it is perfect. Please be onboard with this! We’ll always keep you in the loop as we go as to any revisions in the timeline, or surprises we encounter on the way.
Estimated timeline :
March 7 - Kickstarter Launch
April 20 - Campaign Ends (45 days later)
May 4 - Kickstarter Funds Transfer (2 weeks)
May 8 - Place order for production parts (Body, Spring, and Post)
May 11 - Place order for packaging
July 11 - Send parts for Cerakote and/or Finishing
July 19 - Parts arrive at CW&T to inspect, assemble, laser mark (if applicable), pack + ship
We feel very strongly about making sure the things we put into the world are cherished for a very long time. Key Wrangler is a super high quality piece of machined metal. Like all of our other work, it is made in the US and comes with a lifetime warranty against any manufacturing defects.
CW&T is Che-Wei and Taylor (hi! hi!), a 2-person art + design studio in Brooklyn, NY. We love making stuff and are really excited to be back on Kickstarter for the 5th time!
If you're curious, we make some other things that you can't carry with you, like this hot plastic gun ...
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years. We hope you like this new project!

Risks and challenges
This will be our 5th Kickstarter campaign. We're committed to delivering the highest quality, most thoughtful works imaginable. We understand the risks of manufacturing anything, especially when it comes to high precision metal machine work at a medium-large volume.
When making anything new, there are always unknowns and points of failure. That said, we are always accountable to our supporters and do everything in our power to cover our bases so everyone is happy.
We're looking forward to this adventure with you all, whether it's your first, second, third or fourth time working with us. :)
