A lay-flat, perfect bound sketchbook with materials selected for quality + longevity.
Studio Sketchbook is a Hanji sketchbook bound with lay-flat perfect binding. It's small enough to carry everywhere, but big enough to comfortably draw, take notes or make nuggets of art.
Paper to make your work look awesome + last.
Studio Sketchbook is made with Hanji, a traditional Korean paper made primarily from the inner bark of the mulberry tree and the sunset hibiscus. Its cross directional fibers and neutral PH give it lasting tensile strength and durability. This paper is soft, strong, environmentally friendly and non-toxic.
A delightfully smooth + soft writing surface.
Hanji provides a smooth, soft writing surface which works with a variety of media. Our favorite is ink. But it is amazing with pencil, crayon or paint. Fittingly, Hanji doesn’t take too well to industrial printing processes, but loves anything done by hand.
Binding that is both durable + ergonomic
Studio Sketchbook is bound in Korea by a small, husband + wife team bindery. It is stitched together with lay-flat perfect binding and an open spine. Regardless of the page you are on, this book lays naturally flat. The open-bound exposed, glued spine exposes its quality construction.
Similar to our other products, there is no visible branding on Studio Sketchbook. The front cover features a hand screen-printed bright orange dot to designate orientation. It's also a tribute to the 1964 Tokyo Olympics poster by Yusaku Kamekura.
A blank slate
Studio Sketchbook is blank. There is no printing, lines, dots, grids, page numbers, or markings to tell you where to write your info in case you lose your sketchbook. Studio Sketchbook is designed to support YOU and YOUR creative practice. All the pages are blank for you to do what you want.

Our search for the perfect sketchbook
Studio Sketchbook is the perfect marriage of the types of sketchbooks we both like. The surface is big enough to draw something substantial, but small enough to carry around. It can be used for sketching, note taking, or to produce lasting works of art.
We've spent the past few years researching and trying to come up with a quality sketchbook to accompany Pen Type-A + Pen Type-B. This was harder than you’d imagine. We’ve browsed through tons of paper samples, made lots of prototypes and visited tons of stationery stores.
Nothing felt right until we met Hana + Duri, the twin sister duo behind the Korean paper craft + design studio Hanaduri. Their attention to detail and determination to use high quality materials + construction techniques was obvious the moment we saw their work. We knew right away we had to make a sketchbook together. So this is it!
Studio Sketchbook is already in production! Prototypes have been made and approved. The first 1,000 sketchbooks are set to ship by the end of April this year.
CW&T is the art and design practice of Che-Wei Wang + Taylor Levy. We live in a world of our own making. It's a world where every object has its purpose, although not always purposeful, and where common objects receive uncommon consideration. This is CW&T’s 9th project on Kickstarter. We are @charliewhiskeytango on Instagram, and our company is CW&T.
Risks and challenges
This is our 9th campaign! We're committed to delivering the highest quality, most thoughtful work imaginable.
We understand the risks of manufacturing and refuse to compromise quality. If at any point this means a project delay to make sure things are perfect, that's the way we go. Our priority is to make things properly.
When making anything new, there are always unknowns and points of failure. That said, we are accountable to our supporters and do everything in our power to cover our bases so everyone is happy. This is our first time making a sketchbook, but we are more than confident with our partners Hana + Duri (Hanaduri).
We're looking forward to this adventure with you all, whether it's your first, second, third or ninth! time working with us. :)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
