I'm not a book author or illustrator, I'm a Cyber Security professional. I also have two children under the age of four and am all-too familiar with picture books (AKA board books). As I was reading an ABC book to my son it occurred to me, there aren't any children's books on Cyber Security. I wanted to make a fun illustration that makes security concepts easy to understand but are enjoyable for the adults as well. I'm hoping there are other InfoSec Moms and Dads out there like me. I'm unsure if I'll create more than the initial 500 copies, so sign up here to reserve your copy! The book cover in the image above and the "U is for Unauthorized Access" page should give you an idea for what each page will look like. Unique monsters will be on each page for every letter of the alphabet, done by this same multi-award winning children's illustrator. Although there isn't a lot of text in the book aside from the alphabet terms, I plan to add a privacy page at the end, stressing the importance to children about not talking with strangers online, giving up personal information, and not clicking on ads, etc.
If you're a company, there's a single quantity pledge that will get your company logo branded on the back of the book as the official corporate sponsor! In addition to this I'll find a fitting place to put your logo into the actual story as well. Additionally, there are two pledge rewards available for secondary corporate sponsors. For these I will also add them into the story line, either on a hacker hoodie or hacker stickers on a laptop, for example.
It also occurred to me that these books could be given during trade shows and security conferences by companies. If you're anything like me, I take most of my "swag" home to my kids anyways, so why not give out something relevant and educational? Or, maybe you have an executive team that could use them. ;)
If funding exceeds my 100% Kickstarter goal, I plan to put that money back into additional copies so more children and parents can have access to this book.
I apologize for those of you not in the United States or Canada. I enabled support for other countries but shipping is more expensive.
Risks and challenges
Unfortunately, production and illustration costs are high. I do not plan to make a profit on this endeavor and in fact will lose money if I reach this pledge amount, but it's a number I'm comfortable with in order to get the experience of publishing a fun book on a topic I love. If I don't reach the fundraising goal I likely won't go forward with publishing this book, at least not anytime soon. The only way I'll be able to create this book is by backers like you!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
