The Mimic’s Grid is an innovative new tool for your tabletop - a versatile gaming surface that enables infinite world building through an impressive set of features and modular design.
It's an adaptable game tile for your roleplaying sessions. Build each room on the fly with magnetic elements. Throw your minis and monsters down and they snap into place. Build hybrid environments with 2D and 3D elements or draw directly on the surface with any type of marker.
- 10” x 10” Carbon Steel Platform: Light. Durable. Square.
- 1” x 1” Grid: Perfect for gaming or table-based spreadsheets.
- Chemical Resistant Surface: A lot like Teflon, but for markers and stuff. Use any kind of marker on it, and it comes out squeaky clean. Please don't use them to cook meals (we haven't tested that functionality).
- Integrated Impact Frame: Keeps ‘em from denting and warping, even when you flip tables.
- Neoprene Padding: Like most discerning gamers, the Grid prefers soft butt padding for long sessions.
- Embedded Magnets: Lock multiple grids into place and also (probably) erase VHS tapes.
- 2D Magnetic Maps: Slap ‘em in place! Slap elements down on top of ‘em! Move ‘em! Nope - that one was a joke. They stay in place.
- 3D Elements: Build elaborately planned death traps and environments for your players in three glorious dimensions.
- Adapt your Collection: Slap our included magnets on your existing minis and terrain. Don’t be shy, they won’t mind.
Here's a quick list of the features written directly on the surface of a Grid with acrylic and permanent markers:
BASICALLY, IT'S ALL ABOUT MAGNETS
The Grid's entire surface is steel. You can stick elements directly to it with any type of magnets, or use the adhesive magnets we've hand-picked with just the right amount of force. Miniatures, terrain, maps – even refrigerator magnets, they all stay in place.
No more meticulously setting up your dungeon and having that one clumsy player, let’s call him Steve, accidentally bumping the table and knocking everything over shifting your minis out of place.
You can build your maps beforehand, even with terrain and minis in place, snapping them in when the time is right! It's versatile enough to change on the fly, too - allowing you to rearrange it quickly when Steve splits the party and wanders off to a cave or something.
LIGHTWEIGHT AND DURABLE
We designed the Grid with portability, weight, and durability in mind. Our prototypes weigh around half of a pound each. With 28 gauge steel, each Grid is a super tough little guy that won't get squished by all those heavy books.
The bottom of the Grid is soft slip-resistant neoprene which lifts the Grid away from the table and helps keep it from sliding around and scratching the surface it sits on.
Inside of the steel housing is an integrated impact frame that adds rigidity protects the Grid from dents and warping, even if you drop it or, kick it, or... you know, dropkick it. Although, we don’t know why you would dropkick something so great… in fact:
All of this comes together to form the Mimic’s Grid, which is small enough to carry alongside your books and other roleplaying gear, and lightweight so carting them around won’t give you a hernia. The bottom line is – we know it sucks to carry all of your gear to a game, and we set out from the start to make the Grid light and portable!
OK, BUT CAN I WRITE ON IT? Yes you can.
Using science magic, we applied a durable coating to the Grid that imbues it with extreme chemical and stain resistance. We call it Any-Erase - you can draw on it with ANYtype of marker, and it cleans up easily - no streaks, no stains.
That makes it spill-resistant, too, if one player at your table (Steve...) is prone to horizontally aligning their beverage containers - your art and the Grid should stay safe.
Permanent marker lines stay on the Grid until you clean them with alcohol or acetone - the ink won't smudge, and won't even come off with water or other cleaning solutions. Dry erase comes off with an easy wipe, and wet erase comes off with anything that is wet.
Party with your Party like you're at a 90's Rave!
With UV markers on your Mimic's Grid you too can create intricate maps like you've been trapped in an underground bunker on a mysterious island:
Do you have any suggestions for markers that we should test next? Let us know in the comments!
ONE MORE NEAT ANY-ERASE BONUS
You want another rad feature? We got you! With the specialized coating and ability to use different marker types, you can draw out something, like a dungeon or city street, with a permanent marker, and then draw various elements with dry erase. Wipe the board with a dry cloth – the dry erase comes off, and the permanent marker stays in place.
Artifacts are wondrous items discovered deep within the Cursed Crypt, each imbued with magical interactions with each other and with the Mimic's Grid. In slightly more boring real-world terms, they are what we call our line of accessories.
We have several series of 2D maps, scenes, and elements you can get as part of your Kickstarter reward package. They are high-resolution prints on durable, thick magnetic sheets. For example - you can throw down some grassland, populate it with trees or a garden path, putting each individual piece where you want it to go - each set is designed to give you endless possibilities.
We've partnered with a talented sculptor to create handmade 3D walls, floor tiles, and other interesting environment and features that will bring your games to life. These unique sets will be available as one of the choices for the reward tiers that include an Artist Set.
Each set is 14 pieces of high-quality urethane lovingly handcrafted by good ol' Dan. I can personally attest to the fact that he had a strange grin on his face the entire time he was sculpting these beautiful pieces, probably (definitely) lost in thoughts of all of the terrible things that would befall players in between his walls.
Here's what comes in the set:
- 2 Doors
- 2 Four-Inch Walls
- 4 Two-Inch Walls
- 4 Corners
- 2 Columns
CUSTOM CARRYING CASE
The Legendary Hero Box and Maps tier includes a custom oak carrying case, and we wanted to show off what we've been working on so far with some pre-production design shots. The next step is to send this off to our manufacturer for prototyping, and we'll take you all with us on that journey when the time comes!
- It'll be made from white oak, which gives it a kind of rough-and-tumble "don't mess with me" vibe that we like very much
- It has a metal-plated bottom, just like yer mum
- It uses a pretty unique hidden barrel hinging system, giving it a flush exterior
- The inside has magnetic plates that your Grids will snap right into
- We've designed to hold 12 Grids
- The Mimic is laser burned on the outside to show that you are a cool person with cool tastes
- It's got room for books and other stuff, too!
Keep in mind that this is a prototype render, and some of these details may change, but the basic design is there. We hope you like it!
A Special Thank You Reward
We're putting together a little romp through this world we're creating around the Cursed Crypt, and we're going to be giving all of our backers the very first adventure written specifically for the Mimic's Grid. Each backer will receive a PDF copy of the adventure, which will weave the tale of the Crypt, the world it is a part of, and the colorful characters that surround it. ADD-ONS AND PLEDGE MANAGEMENT

Every single Grid's steel housing is manufactured, coated, painted, finished, and sandwiched with its guts in the good ol' USA, just minutes from our office in Spokane, Washington.
Like us, our manufacturers are perfectionists with high standards for quality. That's one of the main reasons we partnered with them to help bring the Mimic's Grid to life. They put each and every Grid through an intense verification process and thorough check for imperfections before it is packaged.
The Mimic's Grid is our flagship product, and is representative of the quality that we hope to provide you with all of our products. It's our introduction, like a very, very square handshake that is the foundation of a long-term friendship. We hope you see it that way, too.
If your Grid is defective or imperfect in any way upon delivery, we will replace it for you immediately with no questions asked - that's our guarantee.
- These costs are still estimates, and subject to change. We're addressing high international shipping charges across the board and will keep making strides to reduce them. Everything here is based directly off of current shipping quotes.
- We've struck up a bargain with a dark entity comprised of a swirling, pulsating void of utter darkness that stretches to the farthest reaches of reality - but based in the EU. They will handle all of your fulfillment needs.
- MOST IMPORTANTLY - We are expanding our relationship with fulfillment centers in countries we haven't listed below, which should lower costs even more.

We wouldn’t have had the inspiration for this project without the amazing creations of the DIY, homebrew, and creator community. You are a beacon of light and hope in a bleak world, and we appreciate everything you do.
One of the most exciting things about the future of the Mimic’s Grid is YOU.
We can’t wait to see all of the crazy things that you’ll do with our product – whether it is building maps at angles, or even completely upside-down, adapting your own terrain and elements in creative ways, or using the Mimic’s Grid in ways we didn’t even anticipate. We can’t wait to hear about it all. At launch, we’re going to have a system in place for featuring your wonderful creations and for overall community interaction.
Grab Your Own Artifacts from the Crypt
In our hearts, we are crafters and creators - that's how the Mimic's Grid was born. We know that DIY is the beating heart of the RPG community - creators sharing their designs, supplements, and art to enhance other's experiences. We pledge to embrace that state of mind and do everything we can to provide the community with the resources you need to work with the Mimic's Grid.
- We're going to provide you with low-cost, easy-to-use adhesive magnetic discs to adapt your creations to work with the Grid. However, we promise to never limit you to only using our products or shun you because you used other magnets!
- Our creative team will share our process, our games, give tips and be there to answer any questions or help out when needed.
- We'll provide digital versions of our Cursed Crypt created maps and art assets for free, fully licensed for non-commercial reprint.
- We'll work with our partners to provide a portion of their creations to you in the same manner as our content.
- We are going to seek out partnerships with the best artists, content creators, and crafters out there.
- We will strive to be open and honest with you about every move we make as a company, and, just like it has been up to this point, everything we do will be "community-first".

ABOUT CURSED CRYPT:
Cursed Crypt is an American company based in Spokane, Washington that produces tabletop game accessories and content.
We’re tabletop gamers. We love creating exciting worlds and that rush you get when you crit, those long sessions spent unraveling a mystery (or sometimes long sessions spent deciding whether to go left or right – we know how it goes).
We studied our play sessions and started to think of ways to improve the processes without sacrificing interactivity or immersion. We firmly believe that adding too much automation or technology to a game ultimately detracts from the experience and stifles the magic. That frame of mind led us down the road to the Mimic’s Grid – the perfect tool for enhancing immersion and playability without sacrificing emotional investment.
Ok, but who are you really?
We are a team of marketers, engineers, technologists, and super friends that have worked together for over two decades running comic conventions and building digital products of many shapes and sizes. We have a ton of skills and specializations that have given us a keen eye for quality and what we think people will like.
Prior to Cursed Crypt the partner team built Uxiliary, a Digital Agency in Spokane Washington. Launched in 2014, Uxiliary provides technical development and design services derived from user experience research. Notable clients include Nike, Intel, Dell, Amazon, The City of Spokane, INB, FSB, BECU, Northern Quest, and many more.
We have stories, you should ask.
Cursed Crypt is located in Spokane, WA. Visit us to sign up for updates.
We are absolutely thrilled to be a part of this community. Thank you so much for taking the time to check out our Kickstarter. Be sure to like and follow us on social media if you feel like taking a future journey into the Cursed Crypt:
Also, an enormous thank you to the team at Uxiliary, our families, master's of metal at Sytech, the print wizards at Mountain Dog, our rad DM Arwyn, the video kings at CMT14, the Spokane Public Library's 3D printing crew, our supportive play test friends, Wizards of the Coast, and the tabletop community which is a huge inspiration.
All materials used within this video are owned by the Cursed Crypt and Uxiliary team. Inclusion within our video is simply to show how their incredible products can be applied to our system. All copyrighted materials are the property of their respective owners - but a huge thanks for letting us show off our stuff using your stuff!
Risks and challenges
Thanks for reading this far!
The team at Cursed Crypt has years of experience in project and product development through multiple companies we’ve created as a team. We're confident we can deliver the products on time and at the quality we’ve promised.
We've produced close to a hundred of these Grids (40 in the last few weeks) and many of the Artifacts. We understand the process, difficulties, and requirements for each step of the process.
This project is years in the making, and we have done everything we can think of to make sure we fulfill our promises smoothly and quickly. Our team of six is great at this stuff and have covered our bases (with math).
Our US delivery goal (and I bought a digital countdown clock for our office wall) is the end of October. If any exceptions occur (an act of god, errors, etc) our maximum delivery is Black Friday (Friday, November 29).
The International goal is +/- 45 days because of freight, customs, fulfiller re-assembly, etc. Whatever the case, we'll make sure it's on your door before December 25th.
Regarding the Grid:
The Grid contains four components. The housing, frame, magnets, and neoprene.
Everything having to do with the Grid housing, folding, painting, cutting, final assembly, final QA (of the entire grid), and packaging occurs here in Spokane Washington through Sytech Precision (they make incredible volumes of metal components) and our team.
We've designed the internal frame for manufacturing flexibility, allowing for a +/- 1mm variance to account for faults failures and weirdness. If we experience difficulty with our overseas suppliers, we’re able to bring it back into the US without a substantial change and within a short timeframe.
The Neoprene comes off of a roll and is then cut. No pressure there because it has very strict requirements and is readily available.
Asia has an excess of rare earth metal, which means they control cost. Fortunately, the direct inventory samples we've received are exactly like the examples we've gotten in the US. So those are in the bag and we can handle a price change if needed.
One big final important note concerning overseas suppliers and manufacturers. We've chosen a single company to handle sourcing and concatenation of Grid part. After we fly to China and verify the frame within our housing, they guarantee the quality and delivery times.
We've sourced our magnetic material within the US and have had the printing done locally. We’re planning on using Backer support to build our infrastructure to print and cut these pieces in-house. This enables future growth and flexibility. If we need to source overseas, for whatever reason, we will remain transparent with our backers.
Regarding Everything Else:
Some of our items will require major fabrication. We make these in the US (The Table, The Box, etc). If there’s a weird one-off item, we'll always choose quality and execution before price.
Whatever the circumstance, we’ve dedicated ourselves to turning this into a viable positive investment for you. We’ll maintain communication every step of the way through both Updates, Q&A’s, and Video. And make decisions that supports the longevity and quality of our products.
