We tell stories with cheese. Everyone loves a good cheese story. When you put out a plate of cheese, everyone gathers and shares. We say things like, “why don’t we do this more often?” or “Wow, I’ve never tried this before, it’s amazing.” And then the next day, we go to the kitchen and we forget. We forget all the food posts we drooled over on Instagram. We forget the Eater article we just saw about a new gastropub. We forget the hundreds of recipes we liked on Pinterest. We just put the same thing on our plate day after day.
We aren’t immune to trying new things, we just get too busy, or forget when the time is right. Sometimes we just don’t know where to start. Maybe we’re short on time or we’re intimidated by the options. There are so many reasons, but...
We need to stop eating boring.
Every curdbox tells a story through food. This is not just a box of food, it's a recipe for discovery. It's a podcast to understand what you're eating, it's a playlist to create an experience, it's a video to see where the foods are coming from, and a pairing card that tells you about each item, but also dives into our proprietary research that helps you understand flavor profiles, and pairing suggestions in a way that's so simple you'll feel like a genius. Learning through food is not only easy, it's tasty!
We start with a theme and then find some of the best examples of that theme to share with our subscribers. We pick three cheeses—always artisanal, always delicious. We source our cheeses from all over the world and then bring them to our facility where our team carefully and patiently cuts and wraps each wedge to keep them tasting their best. Then we add three pairings–always some combination of award-winning, small batch, and hard-to-find. Pairing foods with cheese is our jam. We look for interesting foods like savory preserves, chunky chutneys, tangy chips, flavored nuts and so many other sweet, sweet lovelies that help us tell our tale.
We then conjure up a Spotify playlist with the help of our cheese friend @cheeseplatemixtape, add in an episode of Curdcast—our podcast for people who like to eat cheese that we record with co-host @WhatJulieAte, and curate a maker video with content from all of our Makers who helped to make this a decidedly unboring experience with their food.

We’ve been building curdbox stories since July 2018. We started by offering them as a pickup at our store Curds&Co. in Brookline, MA. In December we started shipping to 5 New England states. We've done all this specifically to get to this point—to take our curdbox to the rest of the U.S. (with your help.) This kickstarter will let us make the next big leap to a bigger facility so we can grow and keep growing until everyone who wants a curdbox can get a curdbox.

We are already starting to talk with possible collaborators for special edition and occasion boxes, and we look forward to adding loyalty, referral, influencer programs, flash sales of full-size pairings and so much more.

Risks and challenges
Our biggest challenges are finding our perfect fulfillment center, shipping costs, the capacity of small producers and finding new and interesting pairing brands, but we’re working hard on all of these. We have plans on how to scale well beyond 1000 monthly subscribers and it’s only going to make curdbox that much more exciting!
Because we have been scaling up slowly, we've learned a lot about where the hard parts are and we're ready to tackle them. Logistics will be our biggest ongoing challenge and making sure we get everything where it needs to be. No one has ever done anything like this on this scale so we know it won't be easy but we also have a team who loves a challenge and the response we get from our customers is worth all the melted cheese, sweat and tears.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
