Thank you for making this cushion dream a reality!
'Oh The Places You'll Go' cushions are available here.
The project is simple: Bring our collection of unique photographic cushions to production. Each design is limited edition – a maximum of 100 of each will be created. The cushions will be handmade locally in Sydney, Australia.
Most materials will be sourced locally from trusted suppliers (plain fabric & zippers). Digitally printed fabric will be sourced from a trusted producer and printed onto organic cotton sateen.
Our aim is to create beautiful, high quality items that fit right into your home, while conjuring a sense of escape to another place. The cushions are functional, stunning, and will last through many, many years of use and love.
The Cumulus Factory was born in 2012, but its roots were planted long ago. After a lifetime of crafty hobbies, Adina began selling hand-made cushions to save funds for a trip around South America. The first cushions were cloud shaped. Love hearts, speech bubbles, and even the humble square shaped cushion followed soon after. Family, friends and the wonderful public helped The Cumulus Factory grow from a practical idea to a very exciting, snowballing creative venture!
While travelling around South America, Adina re-kindled her love for travel photography, learnt a lot about the varied and rich creative traditions in the continent, and formed all manner of big ideas for the future of The Cumulus Factory.
She also discovered what a rather average photographer she was. “If only I had excellent photo-taking skills, like my buddy Kristina does... I’d sell cushions with my travel shots all over them!” Adina thought to herself.
Skip forward to one delirious night at the high altitudes of Cusco, Peru when late-night marching bands were holding sleep at bay. The lightbulb moment hit, and the dream to collaborate with Kristina was born.
Kristina also loves travelling, and recently visited Thailand for the 7th time (including once to get married there). Her love for the land and for adventures is clear through the tales she weaves in her stunning photos. The 'Oh The Places You'll Go' collection captures a peaceful side of the land that anyone can enjoy – whether you’ve been to Thailand, or just want some beautiful images keeping you warm and cozy on your couch.
We are both strongly inspired by the mindset written into ‘Oh the Places You’ll Go’ by Dr Seuss. We hope to bring an element of adventure and openness to the world, and to your living room.
$50 each / $90 for 2 / $160 for a set of 4
The photos will be digitally printed (sublimation printing - a process that results in a permanent and washable print) onto fabric. The images will be printed onto organic cotton sateen which is luxurious and soft, and shows all the stunning detail of the photographic print.
The back panel will be white 100% cotton sateen. Cushion covers will be finished with a white invisible zipper. Nice and subtle!
Size: Fits 40cm x 40cm cushion (16” x 16”) or 45cm x 45cm (18" x 18') for a snug fit.
Each design will be limited to a maximum of 100.
Cushion covers will be sent without cushion inserts to keep shipping costs down (better for us all!). Inserts can be found at many craft and homewares shops, or reuse an existing cushion insert that you already have. Please contact us if you would like a cushion insert to be included for an extra pledge amount.

Thank you postcards

We are using Kickstarter to launch 'Oh The Places You'll Go' as we need to meet the fabric printers’ requirements for minimum quantities.
If our project is successfully funded, we will submit the design to the fabric printer immediately, and production of the cushions will commence within 10 days. Cushion covers will be sewn locally by Philippe of PV1.
Photographic prints and postcards will be printed locally with fast turnover.
Rewards will be posted out within 2-3 weeks of the project funding period ending - in early December 2013.
While we offer no guarantees, the rewards should arrive to Australian backers before the end of December. International orders may arrive by late December, or in early January 2014.
We will provide updates of important project milestones and happenings to our lovely backers along the way.

Risks and challenges
Most materials (plain fabric and zippers) will be locally sourced from trusted wholesalers, keeping timelines down and ensuring the high quality of all materials. If backers select up to 35 cushions, digital printing will be done through a trusted online fabric printer. If we have over 35 cushion orders, we will be able to have the fabric printed locally (hooray!).
By keeping manufacturing local and with a skilled and trusted friend, we will have a great deal of control over quality and a quick turnover time. This is a limited edition collection - we are capping the project to a maximum of 400 cushion covers so we don't risk over-promising and under-delivering!
All of these factors will keep the risks and challenges to a minimum.
We will provide transparent, regular updates to all backers throughout the project so you know how we're going and when you'll receive your goodies.
Today is your day.
You're off to Great Places!
You're off and away!
You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes
You can steer yourself any direction you choose."
