Cuffs & Co have been making cufflinks for over 15 years. We are a small family business based in the north of England in York's historic streets, we have a customer facing high street store and a website where you can shop online
British Made Steampunk Cufflinks
We have made these steampunk cufflinks before, although due to the fact we are taking apart old watches to make them, the costs are unknown. We have developed some tooling to simply the process which means we will be able to make these cufflinks much easier (and thus affordable). This is the reason for crowdfunding.
These cufflinks are much expensive to make than our standard cufflinks, due to the purchase of the old watches, and the extra time involved with each pair. They will normally sell for £39 on our website, after the crowdfunding.
Over the years we have made many improvements to our cufflinks, our clasp is now entirely British made. It is designed to be hard wearing and practical, they rarely get knocked open, and even if they do, they trap the shirt even when done accidentally.
WHAT WE DO
We start by taking the watches apart to reveal the movements. In the majority of cases the watches are no longer working, but the movements look amazing and produce a really unique looking cufflink.
We clean the components, and remove any loose parts that could catch on clothing. We then cut, file and polish the movement to fit our cufflink frames. This is the process we are looking to streamline.
The finished components are then assembled into the cufflinks, the fit is very tight, additionally secured with a strong jeweller adhesive.
If we reach our goal, we will buy the tools for our workshop to allow us to produce these unique style cufflinks as part of our stock range. The tools will also enable us to produce other designs working with parts and components, future designs are already afoot!
Risks and challenges
Should the project be very successful, we will take longer than initially projected to produce the cufflinks. We will keep everyone up to date during the process.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
