About this project
"More Than Human" is an action/drama/sci-fi series about 5 teenagers who gain special abilities after drinking a mysterious serum. This brings them into conflict with a government scientist and 3 beings from an alternate dimension.
During Season 1, Lindsey (Alexandra Mauro), William (Xavier Price), Morgan (Sadie Brook), Bryce (Scott Chase) and Eli (Rowland Sauls) discover their individual powers and experiment with how to use them.
As they are learning, Dr. James Worthington (Joe Grisaffi), a government scientist desperate to save his comatose teenage daughter, is threatened by Gabrielle (Brittany Djie), Elijah (Eric Schneider) and Samuel (Isaac Fenter). They are beings from an alternate dimension with their own dangerous abilities and a shadowy connection to the serum.
When disaster strikes, the teenagers must rise to the challenge and enter into a secret battle that has existed for centuries.
"More Than Human" is an original web series that combines elements of popular TV series' such as Heroes, Fringe, Battlestar Galactica, Smallville, The 4400, Lost and Teen Titans.
Carlos M. Tovar (IMDB.com) is an independent filmmaker and producer from Houston, TX. He has produced for numerous web series, including Placeholders, 25 and Married and Fore (in addition to his work on several feature films).
Carlos: "The idea of creating a deep story mythology for a teen superhero series that could also serve as an allegory for faith was too much to resist. After months of tightening the script, casting, development and pre-production (as well as filming for the first 5 episodes), Season 1 is ready to be completed! I wanted to all but guarantee that the project would cross the finish line, so we have actually already shot and edited the first 5 episodes of the 10-episode 1st Season. The series is scheduled to begin airing in Fall of 2013, so we need your help to film and edit Episodes 6-10 of Season 1.
"More Than Human" is an ambitious project to say the least, but we feel it is a worthwhile series to bring to life because it will keep you coming back for more with every new entry.
With "More Than Human," we've created a compelling and continuing story that expands and grows with each new episode. A solid, live-action teen superhero series has not been done for quite some time. There have been films, of course, but the goal for this series is to keep going, allowing the characters to grow up with the audience as new characters are introduced, keeping the series rooted in high school.
Teen superheroes are a perfect allegory for growing up and coming of age... new responsibilities, new situations and everything in constant change. In addition, there is an underlying redemptive allegory, with a deeper meaning and theme behind it. Over the first 3 seasons, the plan we have mapped out is to tell a spiritually fulfilling story that never ceases to work as a crowd-pleaser.
We hope you'll consider tuning in... if you've read this far, "More Than Human" will definitely become a favorite of yours!
After an extensive casting process, we assembled a talented cast whose instincts and skills are top-notch. Below you can see their individual character-based Digital Lobby Cards that we created for marketing purposes, along with an individual tagline that hints at that character's individual story arc or power in the series.
To see additional characters and artwork, you can visit the official "More Than Human" Facebook page (there is an album just for the Digital Lobby Cards) and you can also visit the official website at MoreThanHumanSeries.com!

We have various levels of donations with some really cool rewards, so you will not only get to see "More Than Human" come to life, but you'll also get something cool in-hand.
Items like t-shirts, dog tags, wristbands, trading cards, Blu-Ray's, scripts and even a Walk-On Role are yours for the taking! And we will continuously "unlock" or add brand new t-shirt designs during the campaign.
Keep checking back here and at the Official "More Than Human" Facebook page for new t-shirt designs that will be unlocked at different, pre-determined funding levels! First up is the "TAKE CONTROL" design, featuring actress Sadie Brook as MORGAN.
We've created a list of really cool stuff, but at the end of the day, the biggest reward is getting to see the finished product and to know that YOU were part of the superteam that made it possible!
PLUS, every level of contributor will receive an EXCLUSIVE SNEAK PEEK at Episode 1 of "More Than Human" at least one (1) month in advance of it going live on the web! How's that for instant gratification!?
Narrative Production costs money! The absolute minimum cost for Episodes 6-10 is $15,000, though we would love to raise at least $25,000. The $15,000 will barely cover basic expenses such as food, a skeleton crew, location rentals, prop construction, production insurance, hard drives and Kickstarter fulfillment (plus, Amazon & Kickstarter will take between 8-10% off the top).
Our goal may only be $15,000, but we have to hit that goal or we get nothing. To put it simply, we CANNOT finish Season 1 without your help, so every amount, tweet, like and share helps!
The following is a rough game plan for what we will do if we exceed our stated goal. There is a full story world to explore and the first 4 seasons of the show have been mapped out!
This gives you the assurance that we have thoroughly considered all possibilities!
$15,000 - This is the bare-minimum to get Episodes 6-10 made (and we do mean BARE). Anything over our initial goal helps us rent additional equipment, better locations, stronger visual effects and it also means that our dedicated crew gets a little something for coming out and working tirelessly.
$28,000 - Hitting this amount puts us at full budget. This means that now, EVERYONE coming out to work on the series gets at least gas money. It also allows for those working on a deferred basis to get something up-front.
$60,000 - This much more gets us Season 2, Episodes 1-5! If we get close to that goal, we will start filling you in on the details. So stay tuned on our campaign page for updates!
$125,000 - This may be a long-shot, but there is a larger plan beyond Season 1 and we'd love to film both Seasons 1 and 2 in their entirety, plus get a healthy start on Season 3. Again, if we get closer to this goal, we will begin releasing detailed updates.
So, now you know most everything we can tell you about the series at this point. As we hit milestones along the way, we will begin releasing new footage... trailers, character highlights, a full featurette and more!
BUT, unless we reach 100% of our goal, we don't receive the money and you are not charged. So it is very important for us to set a realistic goal and even more important for us to make sure we can reach it! So we need your help in getting the word out!
Remember, even if this show is not YOUR cup of tea, chances are you KNOW someone who it would be a perfect fit for! So after considering your own contribution, make sure to share it with your friends!
Risks and challenges
We have all our paperwork, locations, cast and crew ready to roll. We don't anticipate running into any obstacles, but as you know, stuff happens.
Honestly, the biggest challenges we face will be matching up availability of our teen cast and our primary locations. That being said, we have been extremely successful thus far by being diligent, detail-oriented and conducting our small production in a professional manner.
If anything set us back in terms of our production or post-production schedule, we will be sure to let backers know via our Kickstarter updates.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
