Crystal Wash is already something we are very proud of. It is an amazingly efficient way to do laundry. It is clinically demonstrated to be as effective as detergent and lasts up to 1000 washes! Our goal now is Crystal Wash 2.0, the “connected” version, which will make it even easier to use than it is already and give you a set of tools & features that will help you do your laundry better.
These days everyone and everything is looking to “get connected” to make things easier, provide greater vision and insight into the task at hand. We know that doing laundry is not exactly exciting, but lets face it… everyone has to do it! Crystal Wash is something that works and the truth is we really can make doing laundry easier for you, save you money and be better for the environment. We will give you a brief explanation of how the current version of Crystal Wash works and then we will get into the details of what we want to accomplish with our Patent Pending Crystal Wash 2.0…
Crystal Wash is a proven technology that literately lasts for at least 1000 loads of laundry. It uses the power of Bio Ceramics from the earth, which naturally clean your clothes as effectively as laundry detergent. It is better for your skin and more gentle on your fabrics. It is also better for the environment because it reduces contaminated waste water filtered back into the water supply, saves water by lowering required rinse cycles, and effectively reduces CO2 production by requiring less energy than a traditional detergent based wash.
These special Bio Ceramics were developed using various minerals with very effective antibacterial and anti-oxidant properties.
The pH level of laundry water impacts the wash greatly. If the water is overly acidic or alkaline it can damage delicate clothes and fabrics, cause colors to fade and cause clothing to still seem dirty even after washing. Most detergents on the market are a pH level of 6.5 – 9, but they use chemicals to achieve these levels.
The key to Crystal Wash is the Bio Ceramics:
As the Bio Ceramics collect odors, dirt and waste from your laundry, they need to be ‘recharged’ in order to make sure the pH levels of the laundry water continue to be raised. To recharge Crystal Wash you simply put them in the sun for an afternoon. You only need to do this approximately every 30 days (or 30 laundry loads). There is nothing else you need to do… Just a little sun and they will be just as effective as their first wash. Lets face it, this process is simple but easily forgotten and if not done the effectiveness of Crystal Wash is decreased. It would be nice, if there was a way to be reminded that it was time to recharge them.
By embedding a state-of-the-art pH water sensing chip and a micro-controller with Bluetooth capability inside the current Crystal Wash, we can give users accurate recharge alerts so that they don’t have to remember when it is time to put them in the sun. And while we are at it – why not give users several other tools and features right on their smartphone that will help make doing laundry easier & more effective…
With the Patent Pending Crystal Wash 2.0 we will be able to illustrate the effectiveness of this great device and show the user the real time pH level of their wash. We’ll be able to give the user recharge alerts, wash cycle tracking stats, wash complete alerts and many additional metrics and tools to help each Crystal Wash user become a “LaundryNista.”

Our development process has gone through a few prototyping phases. Our biggest issues were figuring out how to engineer a miniaturized version that would allow us to fit all the necessary components inside the current Crystal Wash form factor. And how to create a module to best withstand the harsh environmental factors present inside a laundry machine... like water, shock, and temperature exposure.
Using some of the most current prototyping tools available we have made good progress after a few versions, but we still had some major obstacles to overcome. Below are some pictures of the prototyping and miniaturization progress we have made.

Currently in the testing phase, our miniaturized prototype v2 is sending back pH data to a mobile device via Bluetooth and showing us first-hand the impact Crystal Wash has on laundry. We've developed an enclosure that is impact resistant. And have begun focusing on the temperature resistance aspect of the enclosure. Addressing the rigors of a normal load of laundry gets us closer to a final module design then we ever were before.

The v2 submerge tests show successful waterproofing and connectivity and we now look forward to moving on to our final module development.
We reached a milestone in our R&D process when we realized we could potentially do away with the traditional electrode. Building on the idea of “lab on a chip” and “micro-fluidics” we began to see the possibility of engineering our own solid-state sensor, which would allow us to miniaturize the electrode and effectively eliminate the need for calibration. Our team went to work researching the feasibility of this and found some really great resources for how to use these cutting edge techniques to bring our idea to reality.
By engineering our own sensing chip we will be able to minimize calibration requirements, reduce power consumption, and come up with our own compact logic board all designed to fit within the Crystal Wash form factor.
The response at CES was huge... with interest from the press, to retailers, to investors, and distributors...
We’ve come a long way. We have a miniaturized prototype and are starting to get back real usable laundry data. Now we need to refine the pH sensor design, work out our power consumption goals, build out the final mobile app. We already have our manufacturing Vendor for the final product, but we still need to source our final vendors for the connected components.

Risks and challenges
With any new innovative project there are inherit risks and challenges...
With Crystal Wash 2.0 the biggest challenge was how do we engineer the components to be small, efficient and robust. Traditional pH electrodes are large, expensive, fragile, and require constant recalibration. We needed to address all the above mentioned electrode issues and make a cost effective module small enough to fit into a 105mm x 19mm form factor.
Supply and Logistics
Luckily we have already developed many of the necessary supply and logistic relationships required to bring the original Crystal Wash to market. For Crystal Wash 2.0 our biggest hurdle is making sure all the new "connected" components are sourced from the best and most reliable vendors. We only want consistent and on time delivery allowing us to reach our production goals and distribute rewards to our loyal backers.
We have established relationships with experienced manufacturers and fulfillment vendors and are confident we will be able to reach our goals.
Through multiple prototypes we have come to a clear path of how to bring our vision to reality. We definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel. We are very close.
