Crystal Rift is an experiential horror challenge game that takes the player through a series of increasingly mysterious locations.
The game has been developed primarily for virtual reality headsets such as the Oculus Rift and GearVR, but is also a great experience for those without headsets. It was inspired by classic games such as Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder with grid-based movement.
An immersive virtual reality experience, Crystal Rift will be released with over 20 levels, with unique styles and settings, to provide many hours of gameplay. The player slowly uncovers the narrative and story through exploration, discovering dark secrets and following the path of those who have come before.
To add a personal touch, a special in-game editor allows users the ability create and share their own content, further extending the game’s lifespan.

Explore a mysterious labyrinth, full of hidden rooms, secret pathways and devious challenges. Environmental hazards - swinging axes, fire pits, spike traps and fire ball launchers block your path and you must figure out the best way to avoid them. Figure out the correct path, find the right combination of switches or learn the right timing to get through the challenges.
Throughout your travels you will discover - and be rewarded with - special Crystals, each of which is imbued with different elemental and magical powers. Crystals have a limited number of uses, so you must be careful how you spend their power - but they also function as keys, so if you use your Crystal up you may find you must return once more. Each Crystal comes with both a defensive and offensive ability; a Red Fire Crystal may allow you to survive fire-based hazards, but also allow the ability to fire back!
What are you firing back at? In the Rift you will not be alone. Creatures, monsters and ‘entities’ exist in the Rift, watching and waiting. Some will block your path, some will attempt to drag you to your doom and some will outright attack you, and while you are able to fend them off to a degree, you will never be able to simply destroy all the threats in your path. Your Crystal powers are limited and you must decide whether the time is right for fight or flight!
You must escape the Rift - but along the way you might also discover its secrets, how you got there, why you are there, and what the denizens of the Rift want.
- Designed for Virtual Reality, the programming leads to a rich and immersive 3D environment with details you can lean into, which also presents perfectly in 2D.
- Classic dungeon crawling experience with grid-based movement, hidden rooms, pressure plates, trapdoors, fireballs, challenges, tactics, monsters and more.
- Optional scare level, Off, Normal or Extreme
- An in-game Editor: you can create, edit and share maps built inside the game, no external tools required.
Crystal Rift has been in full time development for half a year, although it's been in concept for many years, it's been developed in our own time using our own cash, we have now hit a cash wall that would be impossible to overcome without your support. This Kickstarter with your help will give us the bare minimum we require to deliver Crystal Rift into your hands; without your support Crystal Rift will not be the awesome game we want to create.
We are building the levels, creating game assets, monsters, challenges and scares, and also bringing all the elements of the story together. With the core of the game and design complete, progress building the full experience is advancing quickly. Having your support will ensure we remain on target and complete the game in great time.
However, we also get to spread the word about our game, and build up a fan base and following to help realise it's full potential. Your input into the project can help create a game experience we know you will enjoy.

Risks and challenges
We want you to be able to back our project with confidence. That's why we have minimised any potential risks, we have provided a demo to demonstrate that we have a core engine that run's in Virtual Reality today, it's not a promise of a project - there's a lot here to play already.
Our main challenge is of course the reason we are on Kickstarter in the first place, mostly related to funding. Getting funding to cover the basic costs any indie game will face will help to mitigate many of these, we have also tried to make the funding goal as low as possible to reflect this.
With the limited current market for Virtual Reality experiences, it is difficult to get the funding we need to complete Crystal Rift. We need to rely on other developers and hardcore enthusiasts at this point.
Binaural 3D sound is not yet fully tested in Virtual Reality but we want to be on the forefront of this.
We have a detailed roadmap so we feel confident in delivering on time in full, as a backer, we will keep you well informed of progress, we will also be sharing with you as much of the developer process as possible, you can follow our dev logs to watch us progress.
Thanks for reading! I hope we have shown enough to earn your support, we are very excited to deliver the best game we can!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
