Singles today are one of the most, if not the most, underserved demographics in the church. I would know because I was one of them for 32 years. We're told to wait until marriage to have sex and that it is better to be courted than to date. And that's about it. Alternatively, if you take your dating advice from mainstream culture, you make compromises, winding up hurt and more lonely than you started. So where can singles and those newly dating turn to for advice?
Dating on Purpose was inspired by my own experience being single for 32 years before meeting my fiancé Tim. Early in our dating relationship we sought resources to help us get to know one another better and to help us pursue the Lord as a couple. Unfortunately, we could not find such a resource and found ourselves on our own to navigate these tricky waters.
It reminded me of when I was inspired to write my first book, Dirty Girls Come Clean. It was at a time when I was just starting out my work with women struggling with pornography and sexual addiction. I was having a hard time finding resources to use to help them—so I wrote my own workbook based on my personal experiences.
I never wanted to be the kind of person who found love, got married, and started telling single people and newly dating couple how to live their lives. Those people always bugged me when I was single and I promised I wouldn't become one. But just as Dirty Girls Come Clean was written out of my own experience of addiction recovery, Dating on Purpose will be written out of my own experience being single for 32 years, dating the right way, and falling in love with the man God had planned for me—all the while pursuing a desire for biblical marriage.
Fun Side Note: Tim and I will be married on June 23, 2018 — just a few days before the end of this campaign.
Not Just for Women
Dating on Purpose is not just for women. Throughout the book, topics will be relevant to the biblical roles of both men and women and the different issues that each gender faces while single and dating. The first half of the book will focus on singleness and preparation for dating while the second half of the book will focus on the couple as they pursue God together. It is designed for the individual who is currently single—but who desires to be in a relationship—while also being a resource for couples just starting out.
Rooted in personal stories, reflection questions, and biblical truths, Dating on Purpose is this generations' guide to living the single life well (yes this is possible) and dating purposefully: in pursuit of marriage.
Financial Goal & Project Deadline
Kickstarter is an all or nothing platform. Meaning, if I don't meet my goal, I get no money. With that in mind, I have decided to keep my financial goal conservative in the hope of meeting it. My current goal covers just my salary while on sabbatical and doesn't leave a whole lot of room for post-production (see below about my decision to go on sabbatical to write this book!).
Truthfully, I would like to raise at least twice my goal (up to $10,000) to help support us through to project completion (approximately 6 months for writing, editing, printing, and advertising). I am praying for God's provision and hope you will join me. Estimated release date will be January 1, 2019.

Risks and challenges
I am getting married in late June. That alone comes with some risks and challenges, but my fiancé and I have talked a lot about this project and the importance of it being written now—while feelings of being single and dating are still fresh in my mind.
As a result, we have decided to eliminate all distractions from my life in order to pursue this writing project after our honeymoon.
That means, I am taking the summer semester off from grad school as well as taking a sabbatical from my work as a life & recovery coach, from my work as an assistant, and from my work at Dirty Girls Ministries. My sole focus this summer will be to learn how to be a wife (cause I've never been one before) and to write this book.
That is why this campaign is so important—the funds I am raising will allow me to take these sabbaticals with financial peace of mind. This campaign will also allow me to print paperbacks to have in stock.
