Crypto Assassin is an exciting real-time tradable card game that you play online against other players. All you need to play is a web browser with an Ethereum extension like MetaMask.
Like the classic live-action game of Assassin, your goal is to uncover and eliminate as many Targets as possible, all while evading the Assassins that are after you.
As every field agent knows, maintaining your cover is essential. If your Covert Score is ever reduced to zero, your opponent will attempt to Eliminate you!
So in every game, you are playing against two other players: your target, and the player targeting you!
All the cards purchased through this campaign will feature an exclusive card back. These limited edition cards are unique and, after this campaign, will never be produced again!
For collectors who want the absolute rarest cards, we're offering exclusive Kickstarter edition foil cards. These cards feature special gold circuitry that animates both in your hand and on the play field. Like their non-foil brothers, these cards also feature the Kickstarter exclusive card back that will never be produced again.
Unlike most other collectible card games, Crypto Assassin is real-time rather than turn-based. This means you are never waiting for your opponent, and you can respond to their actions as soon as they happen!
Play begins by selecting a card (or Asset in the lingo of the game) and placing it beneath the line of colorful Resources called the Supply Chain. The last Resource in your Supply Chain becomes available every three seconds.
Every card has an Activation Cost that must be satisfied before the card will activate. Match the number and type of colored Resources to activate the card and it will automatically assume its place on the play field.
- Activate Espionage Assets to reduce your Target's Covert Score.
- Activate Counter Espionage Assets to maintain your own Covert Score.
- Activate Weapon and Tactic Assets to eliminate your Target.
- Activate Protection Assets to evade an assassination attempt.
Resources are randomly generated for every player, and while they can never be predicted, certain cards can modify the Resources in your Supply Chain.
Ethereum is an open-source, public, blockchain-based distributed computing platform featuring smart contract functionality.
Because your collection of cards will exist on the Ethereum blockchain, you will enjoy unlimited and secure trading of your cards as well as the comfort that your collection is not reliant on a single, centralized entity.
Your cards are always under your control and you can do with them whatever you like. It's even possible that other games could be made that use Crypto Assassin cards.
Crypto Assassin is currently playable, with both a robust server and a dedicated HTML5 client. Over 75 cards have been completed with many more planned.
To date, the project has been entirely self-funded, with over a year of development.
Funds from this campaign will be used to support the development team as we implement Ethereum contracts, add more cards to the game, test for scalability, and of course ensure that the game is balanced and fun.
Risks and challenges
There are risks associated with any type of software development.
It's possible our planned schedule could be delayed because of unforeseen technical difficulties. However, our veteran team has over 50 years of professional development experience, and this helps mitigate execution risk.
Because certain aspects of the game are reliant on the Ethereum computing platform, anything that meaningfully affects the functionality of Ethereum would impair the ability for Crypto Assassin to function as planned. At the very least, the game would require substantial changes to continue operating. However, Ethereum is a multi-billion dollar ecosystem with mature support tools and many parties vested in its long-term health and success.
Finally, because our team is small, health issues or family emergencies could possibly affect our ability to deliver and support the game. Fortunately, we're all happy and healthy for the time being!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
