**All designs will be now be produced for the Ultimate Collection Backers!!**
The Ultimate Collection is the only way to get pin designs that remain locked at the end of the Kickstarter. Get all 14 pins!
They're out there, and now they can be on your outfits!
North America is full of fantastic creatures, magical beasts, and interesting cryptids and we're looking for the folks who love them as much as we do! We've captured the majesty and strangeness of these creatures in original artwork, and we want to bring them to you as a collection of gorgeous enamel pins to wear, collect, and trade.
Show your support for magical beasts of all kinds by joining the Cryptid Conservation Front and help protect these creatures from poachers and overzealous hunters. This handsome crest is one of the six pin designs; the others are the creatures themselves. Depicted on the badge: the mighty thunderbird, the cute yet feisty jackalope, a majestic wyvern, and the infamous hodag.
UPDATE: We've been informed that not all people want to conserve and protect the cryptids. Some would prefer to *hunt and *EAT them! So we've added a new design: the Chupe Jerky! You can choose it as one of your pics, or choose it instead of the Conservation Front badge in your Complete Collection.
Each pin measures 1.5" and is shiny gold metal with an 8mm post and a rubber clutch (see our stretch goal for the upgrade to a locking security back). Your pin arrives individually shrinkwrapped.
Each individual pin is die struck, leaving recessed areas behind to receive colored enamel. The pin is then kiln-fired at 450 degrees and polished to a shiny luster, resulting in a hard surface. The colors are vibrant, sharp, and eye-catching!
The 6 Initial Designs
The first designs we will produce are: Jackalope, Jersey Devil, Sasquatch, Chupacabra, Cactus Cat, and the Cryptid Conservation Front shield. Back at the complete collection level and also get the BONUS design Snipe pin!
Shipping costs are subsidized and shipping is FREE to the United States!
Been on a Snipe Hunt? Capture One Today!
This all got started because we made snipe pins. They turned out so well, we wanted to do a line of pins and bring more cryptids and creatures to you. I mean, look at these guys:
You can get a snipe for yourself by pledging at the "Full Collection" level, or by adding an extra pin onto your pledge. Snipe reproduce notoriously fast. When I started to take this picture, there were only two snipe. By the time I finished ... well, you can see how it happens.
Six additional designs can be unlocked as stretch goals are met: Baby Mishipeshu, Thunderbird, Baby Chupacabra, Hodag, Wampus Cat, and Polebat.
$11 -- Add on any of the pins to your order
$23 -- Add a plushie cactus cat! Cuddly and huggable saguaro cactus cat with a three-pronged tail. Includes US Shipping. Add $13 for delivery outside the US.
$25 -- Add the Compendium of North American Cryptids & Magical Creatures to beef up your knowledge! Includes US Shipping. Add $10 for delivery outside the US.
The Project Goal is set to cover the minimum production quantity of the six original pin designs, the Kickstarter and credit card fees, graphic design, and subsidized US shipping. Stretch goals are set to cover the costs of art, prototyping and minimum production quantity of each design. Proceeds will help us be able to create and showcase more awesome creatures!
Maury Brown is a writer, teacher, dreamer, and cryptid lover. She can't stop dreaming of new creatures and being fascinated with mundane and magical beasts. She's one of the authors of the Compendium of North American Cryptids & Magical Creatures, a book that features 50 beasts and some of the artwork used on these pins. When she's not writing games or fiction or lesson plans, you can find her hiking in the woods or sprawled on a beach somewhere, usually with a comic book.
Ffion Evans is a freelance graphic designer, web designer, and illustrator. She has been drawing monsters with Maury for two years, and for herself for many years before that. When she's not working, she enjoys, reading, motorcycling, and beating the heck out of the gym punching bag. She doesn't want to meet a horde of wendigo, but she is quite fond of the snipe.
Risks and challenges
This is the first Kickstarter for Cryptid Cuties, but I have done a successful Kickstarter for the Compendium of Creatures, featuring this artwork, and for a cryptid plushie, the cactus cat. Both of those Kickstarters funded and were fulfilled on time. I've also been involved with four other successful Kickstarters.
We have worked with this manufacturer before for production of 6 other pins we have created.
The artwork is already created, and the prototypes have been made. The biggest risk is a project delay, but if that happens, I'll be sure to let you know right away!
Of course, another risk is the campaign not succeeding! I hope you will share this campaign with your friends to help us meet the goal! Every share is precious, and when you show your excitement, other people get excited, too!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
