Disclaimer: The money raised from this Kickstarter project will be used to finance the Community Servers where users can view, share and rate Replay Files from other users. We can't come up with these costs ourselves, but we also don't want to let the coolest feature of the mod away :)
Also, for every Reward the lower-level Rewards are included as well, so if you pledge $50, you'll also receive the $25, $10 and $1 reward!
Now that the initial goal has been reached, have a look at the Stretch Goals - there's a lot of awesome stuff we've considered adding ;)
The Replay Mod
The Replay Mod is a Minecraft Mod that allows everybody to record their gaming sessions and relive them from a different perspective at any time.
Recording your sessions works on any Minecraft Server or Singleplayer World that you connect to. All you need to do is joining the game - if you have it enabled, the Replay Mod automatically records for you.
Replay Files are in a lightweight format - An average recording over 1 hour is less than 10 Megabytes large. You can easily share your Replays with your friends - they simply have to drop the file in a folder.
Coming with a built-in video creator, the Replay Mod allows everyone to make perfect clips without any external software. The simple User Interface makes it very easy to design awesome camera paths.
This video demonstrates what the Replay Mod is currently capable of:
We are working on a website for the Replay Mod, where everyone can register. You will be able to share your Replays (from within the Mod!) and rate and download Replays from other community members.
You are the best player in your favorite Server Minigame? Prove it to others by sharing your gameplay with them!
You built an amazing monument with your friends? Show it to others and let them make breathtaking Cinematics or Timelapses of your creation!
We are also planning to add a forums section to the website, where users can ask questions and get help quickly.
The Replay Mod website will connect all of the users in one place.
The only restriction for normal users of the Replay Mod website will be their online file storage. Premium Members however get an additional amount of storage for each month they help keeping the server alive. Premium Memberships are included in some of the backers rewards.
The fees for the Premium membership as well as the largest amount of the money raised here on Kickstarter will be used to finance the server and online storage for the Replay Mod community.
$1500 - We will develop a Plugin for the Minecraft Server platforms Bukkit and Sponge, using which you can capture the actions of your players in a Replay File.
Additionally, we will open a Spreadshirt Shop where you can purchase clothes with the Replay Mod Logo on them.
$2000 - We will publish the Replay Studio, a well-documented Java API for developers, which allows you to create and modify Replay Files yourself.
$2500 - We will create a standalone Server which players can connect to and watch any Replay File on without having the Replay Mod installed. This can be a great addition for Minigame Server Networks which want to allow their users to instantly replay their games.
$3500 - We will publish a REST API for the Replay Mod website, where developers can create tools to upload, download and rate Replay Files on the website.
$5000 -To thank you for your support, we will publish the source code for the Replay Mod on GitHub. This way, other developers can learn from our effort.
There are currently three developers working on the Replay Mod and the connected projects:
CrushedPixel (Marius) - The main developer responsible for the mod itself. He created several tools for the Minecraft community, for example the "PixelCam Mod", the "JSON Sign Generator" or the "Command Syntax Mod". On his YouTube channel he uploads videos on the Minecraft Mods and Command Block Creations he makes.
Panguino (Brad) - He is responsible for the design and implementation of the Replay Mod Website. Being the founder of Waterfall Media, he has a lot of professional experience in creating and managing large web projects.
johni0702 (Jonas) - He is working on the Replay Studio API which is being used in the Replay Mod itself. If the according stretch goals are reached, he will create the Bukkit/Sponge plugins for the Mod, and develop the standalone server software to relive Replays on. He has a lot of experience with Minecraft-related projects, and some of it is published on his GitHub Account.
To comply with Minecraft's End User License Agreement (EULA), the Replay Mod (and development builds) will neither be exclusive to backers nor will it be available earlier to them. The rewards listed don't influence the backers' access to the software in any way.
Risks and challenges
The Replay Mod is in a stable situation right now. The core functionality is working very well, but there's a lot of optimization that needs to be done.
The main obstacle will be setting up the final website and keeping it running. Therefore, we have a professional web developer from http://waterfallmedia.net in our team.
I am a proven modder and programmer (PixelCam Mod, JSON Sign Generator and much more) with a lot of experience, so there is almost no risk of the project not being finished.
