"Common Threads" is a web series that originates from a project entitled "Epic Day". While originally written and produced as a film, "Epic Day" evolved into a mini-series that we released in January. The series was met with great local reviews and has gained a small cult following. However, in order to really make this project a dynamic and lasting series, we decided to start from scratch and revamp the series.
An Improved New Look
Under the new title, "Common Threads", we get a better sense of who the characters are individually and collectively and why each relationship is important. "Common Threads" very much represents the current generation of 20-somethings trying to find their way in the world. As much as they try to avoid each other, their paths are intertwined. By facing each other, each of them discovers a bond; a common thread that holds them together.
The first season of "Common Threads" will consist of 12 webisodes. We have already begun production on the first 6 webisodes, but need a little more financial support in order to complete our full season. Here is our projected timeline for the rest of 2013:
July- Production on Webisodes 1 & 2
Aug.- Production on Webisodes 3 & 4
Sept.- Post-Production on Webisodes 1& 2, Production on Webisodes 5 & 6
Oct. Post-Production on Webisodes 1-4, Production on 5 & 6
Nov.- Post-Production on Webisodes 3-6, Release of Webisode 1
Dec.- Post-Production on Webisodes 4-6, Release of Webisodes 2 & 3
What We Need
We already have our Cast and Crew, and we've already managed to
raise a significant portion of our funds offline to "kick-start" production on the series. The $3,000 goal is what we need at minimum to continue shooting the second half of our 12 webisode season.
Now, $3,000 is a lot of money. However, factoring in travel costs, food, location fees and post-production costs, it's really just the bare minimum. But we can do it!
Why This Project Is Necessary
"Common Threads" will be entertaining, but it also has the potential to inspire this current generation in ways that other web series have yet to discover.
The cast and content is diverse with topics ranging from homosexuality, unemployment, class, abortion and coming of age. We don't have a major investor, but we've invested the time and effort to produce this web series, and we hope that you will invest the money and moral support to help us achieve our goal.
If you cannot pledge any money at this time, we ask that you please share the link to this Kickstarter page with your friends and family. Thank you so much for your support!
Risks and challenges
With any independent production, there are obstacles. By helping us reach our Kickstarter goal, you will help us knock down some of our major financial hurdles, and we'll be able to proceed with production this season.
Most of our cast is finished with school but because we won't have the budget to keep them full-time, they'll also have jobs and and other obligations during production. This could delay production at times, but we will update you on any changes on the expected dates for your reward deliveries.
We are excited to give back to you, and are glad that you are joining us on this journey!
