About

Each player controls a single, extremely powerful wizard wielding a unique magical ring. Solitary heroes are tasked with defending their ancestral home from the impending, merciless doom - countless hordes of mana-infected beasts.

Through its limited global mana pool and constantly invading monsters, Wizard Survival pits players against one another at every turn. You will be constantly making hard decisions, particularly how best to serve yourself while helping as few of your enemies as possible.

Monsters are not only an invading threat - they are also corrupted with magic and can be slain to increase your personal mana pool. The game forces players to be cunning, constantly planning turns ahead, hoarding global mana reserves, even 'helping' other players by slaying their monsters.

Ultimately it is the actions and treachery of players that keeps Wizard Survival entertaining, match after match as wizard pacts are betrayed just as swiftly as they are formed.

Should a player's blood begin to boil and the atmosphere turn sour, don't worry - we've also added a 2-4 player cooperative mode, so everybody can peacefully cool off and relax. In this mode you can trade mana and spells without fear of betrayal as you work together to defeat the 4 powerful bosses.

Accompanied by beautiful, original art, the creative myriad final result is a lore-rich, skilfully, passionately designed game - one that bestows infinite replayability and hours upon hours of fun.

Each game lasts 15 to 45 minutes - and no two games are ever the same. Wizard Survival starts when players draw 5 random spell cards and take 1 mana token of each type. Then all players roll a dice and the highest roll gets to choose whether they want to pick their Wizard and magical Ring first - or take the first turn. Every spell has 3 unique mana requirements in order to cast, so starting cards will likely determine which Wizard a player will want to start with - and what ring offers the best strategy for their cards. When every player has taken their turn, all remaining monsters attack the Wizards of the realms that they are in. Then the monsters move clockwise to the next player at the beginning of the new round and new monster cards are also drawn for each Wizard.

Wizard Survival features two gameplay modes:

  • Free for All Survival
  • Cooperative

Survival mode is a stormy, uncertain ride - a free-for-all match that ends with the last Wizard standing. Due to the games random systems, every game results in a ‘’anything can happen’’ scenario. It’s really up to the players to try and minimise the damage caused by the wonderfully merciless mechanics - if the game goes long enough everyone is sure to die. Survival tactics may involve temporary diplomacy and politics - convincing other players at the table to deal with your issues in exchange for a monster reward or a pledge of a later help can make a difference between victory and defeat. Every new game can result in a different situation - if it was in somebodies best interest to help you out in the previous game doesn’t mean that will be the case with the next one. To make things a bit more interesting, besides marauding hordes of mana-infected monsters - there are 6 dragons. Each of these powerful beasts has unique abilities that makes them incredibly hard to defeat. They were conceived as a sudden death mechanic and can show up at any time creating some very… unforgiving survival situations.

Cooperative mode is a collective endeavour, a dangerous quest to vanquish the 4 powerful bosses. This mode offers more replayability - it has four difficulty levels especially designed to push players to their limits. The highest difficulty is extremely devastating - and can be only beaten by the best and brightest with perfect teamwork. Besides adding a new dimension to the game itself, cooperative mode is a great way to switch the mood in case of new, short-tempered or over competitive players - trying to triumph against colossal godlike monsters makes sure everyone has a fun time.

To start the game, players shuffle the spells deck and the monsters deck separately.

Each player receives 6 mana tokens - 1 of each mana type.
Afterwards, five spell cards are dealt to each player, followed by a single monster card which is placed face up on the table, for all the players to see.

Then all players roll the dice. The highest roll gets to choose whether they want to pick their wizard and ring first - or pick last and take the first turn.

When selecting a wizard and a ring, it's important to take into account what spell cards you have been dealt and what monsters are on the table. For example, if there is a powerful monster in a player's realm, or perhaps even in one of the other players realms, it can be wise to pick the wizard matching the monster’s damage type and the Sarandiel’s Bulwark ring in order to have immunity to the monster's damage type.

The result? Instead of destroying the monster, you can ignore it because it cannot harm you. When it leaves your realm in a clockwise direction it will begin destroying the next player - thus increasing your chance of being the last surviving wizard.

The last player to pick their wizard begins the first turn.

When a player's turn begins they receive 1 mana from their wizards school of magic focus. Then, they have a choice to perform twice - they can take one mana of any kind or draw a spell card.

During their turn, players use magic spells in exchange for the mana cost associated with those particular spells. The game's objective is to be the last wizard alive - this involves protecting yourself from dangerous threats as efficiently as possible.

Sometimes it can even be beneficial to hurt or hinder other players to speed up their defeat. However, spending all of your mana to destroy another player can lead to your own demise. Playing too aggressively may leave you without enough spells or mana to defend yourself.

Rock Throw - Cost: 2 Nature Mana, 1 Air Mana
Rock Throw - Cost: 2 Nature Mana, 1 Air Mana

This is the very core of Wizard Survivals unpredictable gameplay - being faced with with difficult decisions every single turn. There are no right answers, no certain choices.

In-game, there are 8 mana tokens for each of the 6 magic schools. Once players hold all the mana of a certain type, nobody else can take or be rewarded that type of mana. Some players strategies can even revolve around starving other wizards of their mana. Collecting and intentionally holding on to your competitors supply of primary mana means they cannot acquire the mana they need to defend themselves.

In free-for-all mode, if the game goes on long enough - everybody will die. Since death is inevitable, you just need to make sure that you survive the longest in order to win.

At the end of a round, after all of the wizards have played their turns, all remaining monsters attack the wizards of the realms they are in. They then move clockwise to the next remaining wizards realm and a new monster is drawn for every wizard that is still alive.

In Survival mode when the last card in the monster deck is drawn, the defeated monster cards are reshuffled and setup as the monster deck. From that point onward everytime somebody draws a monster card they must draw an additional monster card.

In cooperative mode, all players are on the same team. The four bosses are added to the monster deck and the goal is to defeat every card in the monster deck, including the 4 bosses.

There are 4 difficulty levels this mode can be played in which increases the number of monsters drawn when a boss spawns, Bosses also start with a Rage Counter for each difficulty level as well.

In cooperative many of the games spells have special cooperative functions, these can be useful for bringing down bosses or merely just buying time. On top of this players are able to trade spells and mana to one another during their upkeep choices. The exchange must be a 1:1 exchange though, you cannot give a spell card or mana to somebody without them trading something back.

Wizard Survival takes place during a planet-wide cataclysmic event caused by the passing of the Lorelias comet. Every couple of centuries, the fiery comets magical fragments end up scattered across the planet, corrupting everything in it’s path - unless stopped by wizards.

The game is set on the subcontinent of Atheria - a vast landmass mostly populated by the Amurelden people. History of the Atherian realm is written in blood and mana - Kingdoms and Empires rose and fell because of wizardry, societies formed and cultures thrived fueled by magic.
