Our debut game, KamiDrop, is inspired by popular arcade coin-drop games. We’ve taken the basic mechanics and have thrown in a ton of wacky elements and surprises to keep gameplay fresh and engaging!
Best of all, pledge as little as £1 and you’ll have instant access to the special pre-release Kickstarter edition of the game (download instructions are detailed in the first backer update*). For the duration of the campaign and until public release, there is a 20% discount applied to every item in the store!
The Kickstarter edition features the endless mode level The Beanstalk of Seasons! With the Rod of Gusts at hand, your goal is to help your kami travel as far as possible, but it’s not as simple as it sounds. You’ll encounter all types of beans as you fall, from pesky spike beans, to rare golden beans, and even beans that can change the season!
Put your skills to the test and see how far you’re able to reach. The top 10 players who travel the furthest during the campaign will be gifted in-game currency in relation to their position.
*iOS users, will receive an invitation email via Apple's 'TestFlight' and will need to keep KamiDrop up-to-date via the TestFlight app.
One of the most frustrating things to me is investing time and money into a game for it to be effectively worthless when the sequel/spin-off’s released; this isn’t the case with KamiDrop.
As our debut game, KamiDrop is the first puzzle-piece of a greater picture. KamiCritters will be known as a franchise of innovative games that bring something new to the table across all genres. Our aim is to reach as many people as possible and as such, all KamiCritters games will be free to play and not feature mandatory adverts. Once you create an account (which can be done in just 2 taps), you’ll never have to worry about parting from any of your new friends. We build each game with the intent of sharing as much data as possible, from items you own, to customisation unlocks, and of course the precious kami you’ve built bonds with – as soon as you log into any game in the series, they’ll all be there, eagerly waiting to embark on a new adventure.
Surprisingly, there’s actually very little in place that allows data to be shared between apps. As a response to this, we’ve created the ‘KamiCore’; a bespoke, robust infrastructure that allows the franchise/mechanics to grow in complexity and diversity whilst maintaining your data. Investing time into creating a strong foundation has meant that production hasn’t been swift, but on the flipside, it has shown us that we’re creating something innovative. Whether you have time to play for an hour or 5 minutes, every time you play, you’re building up your account.
We’re starting the franchise off with innovative arcade-style games that are instantly fun, but have hidden depths – there’s something for casual and hardcore gamers alike! As the franchise grows, so will the scale of our games. Even when we have a big console RPGs out, it’ll be just as valuable sinking time into games like KamiDrop as you’ll be adding to your roster. Each game will also feature exclusive kami.
Our aim is to eventually have games out to cover your every mood. Fancy completing a few puzzles on your way to work? No problem, you have KamiMatch on your phone. Have some buddies over in the evening? No problem, you have KamiDrop: The Duel on your PS4, boot that up and duke it out. Find yourself at a loose end on a rainy Sunday afternoon? Make a hot chocolate, grab a blanket, and delve into the magical world of KamiAdventure on your Nintendo Switch. Best of all, the first kami you ever unlock in KamiDrop could be the star of the show years later in KamiOdyssey.
There’s more to the world than meets the eye, everything has a role to play and as such, everything has a kami… a guardian. Despite them sharing the trait of being round and squishy, there are all sorts of kami out there!
With an ever-growing roster spanning numerous unique categories, there’s a kami out there for everyone; who will be your best pal? I heard a rumour that there are even some kami that can offer special in-game bonuses, so be sure to meet as many as possible! Here are just a couple of kami you may encounter in your journeys:
Schnell is a very slow kami, but has evolved a
mouth that produces thick foam from the water
around it – it uses this foam as a raft which allows
it to speedily traverse the currents.
Often found in orchards, Dropple enjoy nothing
more than basking in the bright summer sun.
Dropple uses its leaf as an umbrella when it rains.
Can you guess what Dropple is the kami (guardian) of? You may be surprised! Tweet your guesses to @KamiCritters. When the campaign ends we’ll select one correct answer at random and gift you some in-game goodies!
Fun fact: The kami are inspired by the Shintoist philosophy of being kind to all things. There’s definitely more to the world than meets the eye!
Sure ‘The Beanstalk of Seasons’ is procedurally generated which means that it offers infinite replayability and a new challenge every time, but you want choices right? A chance to explore even more of our magical word? Well that’s where this Kickstarter comes in.
We currently have 2 extra endless levels planned, each offering very unique mechanics that totally mix up the formula, and we need your help to bring them to the game.
The first of these levels, ‘The Forever Festival’ features fireworks, dragons and plays heavily with the theme of light and darkness both aesthetically and in terms of gameplay.
The second endless level ‘Sugar-Star Falls’ mixes the theme of candy… with, well, a waterfall! The only issue is that konpeito (sugar-stars) dissolve in water. This creates a risk/reward system where you can either choose to stay in the waterfall (where you can fall faster but there are more hazards), or take a more calculated route bouncing off the sugar stars either side.
And of course we have A LOT of really cool kami currently in development. The more resources we have, the faster we can bring them to life! Here's a sneak preview of just a couple:
We also have other modes besides Endless Mode planned, including:
- Adventure Mode: Levels with set structures. The aim is to reach the bottom and earn the highest score you can along the way! As we don’t have to take random placement into consideration, this mode allows us to create more advanced objects/hazards.
- Zone Mode: The screen is split vertically into 3 lanes. Each lane features a different coloured score-zone. Every second the player is in a zone they will either earn or loose score depending on the colour of the zone they’re in. The level has a set distance and there are power-ups, but no hazards.
- Puzzle Mode: In this mode, there are no ‘pins’ and your kami spawns in a fixed location. It’s your job to place a set number of pins in a way that your kami can bounce off them and collect the required number of orbs per stage (swipe controls are also disabled).
So here’s our proposal!:
Further goals have been planned and will be detailed as we hit our stretch goals!

Grant (Producer/Designer) ~ Hey everyone! You’ve already met me via the video *waves*. I hope you got a sense of how gaming truly is a core facet of who I am, as well as my passion for this project! Something you may not know is that I have 2 visual novels available on Steam: Always The Same Blue Sky and Entschuldigung.
Christina (Artist/Animator) ~ Hello! Just your run-of-the-mill, hipster artist here. I've loved video games ever since I was little, and really enjoy Japanese RPGs and retro gaming. When I first found KamiCritters, I knew that I wanted to apply for the job and am so happy that I did. Not only do I have the chance to help build this franchise from the ground-up, but I got to meet a talented team and make friends along the way.
Lee (Programmer) ~ I have always been into games and even started designing them from a young age, with only paper and pens as my tools. I started coding properly when I was 16, building simple games using any development program I could find on the web. Whilst learning to become a developer, I took on a wide variety of jobs, from working on apps to building websites. After seeing the charming artwork and finding out about the wonderful concept Grant had developed, I immediately messaged him and haven’t looked back since.
Sean (Composer) ~ Hi there, I'm a composer for TV, film, and games based out of Los Angeles. I'm thrilled to be working on the music and sound effects for KamiCritters. It's been a joy working on the project - the sonic elements seem to jump out of the vibrant artwork that our talented team has created. I look forward to seeing, and hearing, the many directions this series can go.

Risks and challenges
It was vital to us that we minimised the risk to you as an investor, and as such we have held back from launching this campaign until we had a fully-functioning build of the game ready to go. We have a grand vision for KamiDrop as a well-rounded, timeless arcade game that we would absolutely love the chance to fully execute - the success of this campaign will dedicate how much time we can sink into it.
As a new team of indie creators with ambitious goals and big dreams we are determined to make KamiCritters a global success. Just like any project, there are bound to be some bumps and hiccups along the way, but with your help and input, we are set on making a series that is truly gamer-driven!
