This result shows that people love the Crescent Theater because it means so much to Mobile. It also shows how much Max Morey means to Mobile. Both the theater and the man are treasures. Congratulations.

I live in Mobile and love films but I've never been to the Crescent. I've always wanted to go but just never got around to it. I am happy to back this project and figure it will give me the kick in pants to actually go check the place out. :-)

Fantastic project - all the best to the Crescent and Mobile. Local / small theaters are a treat for communities and need to be preserved. Keep up the good work!

Proud to donate to your cause...and taking great inspiration from your my family and I are taking on our own massive, historic theater restoration project in Plainview, Texas....bringing back a 1929 movie palace that my grandfather was a partner in for several years. It featured an atmospheric ceiling (twinkling stars/clouds) and an unique, Spanish courtyard feel throughout. We purchased it a month ago and have been working on the ground floor of details, financing, etc., when we found out about Kickstarter. We are launching our project this week (just waiting on the Amazon set-up to kick in) and wanted to support your cause thanks to the inspiration it has provided us. We have a Facebook page set up for Granada Theater Plainview and would encourage anyone interested to visit. We endeavor to bring our theater all the way back and be able to inspire others as well! So pleased to participate as a GLOBAL FRIEND.....I know you will reach your goal....and hope to visit you sometime in the future. - Darryl Holland, Owner, Granada Theater, Plainview, Texas

I have no idea where this theatre is, but I want to live there! Sounds like a fantastic fun place for a cinephile like me to hang out :)
All the very best and hope you reach your target- I'd love to come and visit one day, but am very very happy knowing that two people who definitely need an escape that cinema offers, will use my tickets instead. What a great reward to have available- thank you!
Hope to see you in a dark and comfortable cinema sometime soon
      Sydney, Australia
p.s. I really hope you can keep the 35mm machines to wheel out on special screening events too! :)

The Crescent has been a welcome bastion of culture for us where we can see films, in Mobile, like Terrence Malick's "Tree of Life" with its lush cinematography on a large screen. It's just not the same on Netflix. I must say I will mourn the loss of the quality of projected film when the Crescent goes digital much as I did when LPs became CDs. So Max, hang on to that film projector if you can. True cinephiles may bring a resurgence in film the way audiophiles have with LPs.

I noticed that over 3000 people like this page on Facebook. If they all kicked in a month's equivalent of Netflix or rental DVDs, we would reach the goal in no time.

$55,000 already?! Amazing! But now is not the time to lose momentum! If you can't contribute, please spread the word to those who possibly can.

    22. Wiley Farrar, Jr on September 21, 2012

I donated for my support to the Crescent Theater without even worrying about the rewards I would get with the donation. For the past four or so odd years, I have been a patron at this fine establishment and have seen a countless number of films (sometimes multiple times) and special events. Each time I felt that my patronage was truly appreciated. Mobile, and every city for that matter, needs a Crescent Theater for people to truly understand what the lack of one would feel like. The years of great times, memories, and the benefit of some of the finest film viewing have merited a donation from me. Whereas many other theaters, especially chain theaters, feel like empty, hollow, and detached enterprises; the Crescent feels like a communal gathering for an extended family of film lovers to communally experience the magic of film together. It's not uncommon to hear people, even strangers, discussing the films afterwards or before. I challenge anyone to find the same level of enthusiasm, support and warmth in another establishment. For the above reasons and countless unnamed, I pledge my support to the Crescent Theater and wish it a long, prosperous future.
