The adventure begins! Temtem is funded!

Thank you all! Thanks to your awesome support, Temtem has been funded within the first 5 days of the campaign!

This means that Temtem will now become a reality and all of you will help us shape it in the months to come. We’re really excited to see Temtem’s community growing and the discussions and ideas that are pouring into our social networks.

We want to take this moment to talk about a couple of things.

A glimpse into the future and some changes we want to make

We’ve been looking very closely at the campaign’s feedback so far and while most of it has been very good, we’ve seen some bad reactions about the similarities with Pokémon.

We’re not hiding the fact that we’re heavily inspired by it, and that our plans for Temtem are basically to make the Pokémon game we’ve always wanted to play. We wanted to make that clear in our presentation video, and that’s why there are some scenes that are very similar to the ones you’re familiar with in Pokémon.

That said, we’re looking forward to changing some of the things that are maybe too close to Pokémon (the trainer intro, the evolution scene…) and giving Temtem more personality to stand on its own. We’ll be making these changes in the coming months and we’re confident that between those changes and our unique approach to world building, Temtem will be a great game that you all will enjoy.

Stretch Goals

We’re just getting started with the campaign; there’s so much more we want to do with Temtem and that’s exactly why we’re introducing the Stretch Goals. For every goal we hit, we’ll introduce something new into the game!

Just backed you up! It looks awesome! Also, I read the mail where you say it's inspired by pokemon. Another game doing tgat, but taking things to their own style and gameplay is ni no kuni 1. Just a small hint ;) anyway, really looking forward to this!!! Good luck!

I think its really cool and congrats to it being funded succesfully.

      BUT

I am NOT a PC player. Fully Switch Player only and very rarely a PS4 player.

I went ahead and backed with 100$. Why? Because I wanna be one of those making the switch stretchgoal a reality. But thats the most I can back. And from the looks of it we won't reach 100.000 for 1 or 2 more days (at best).

Really hope we can smash that 240.000$ goal.

SO GUYS GET YOUR WALLETS OUT AND THROW YOUR ALMOST HARD EARNED CASH AT THE GODDAMN SCREEN ;)

@Jorge I am sure Nintendo will be watching the PUBG lawsuit at this point is all. but the games looks changed enough where they would be hard pressed to sue. Biggest change being the MMO part that nintendo hasn't Do with pokemon.

@Jorge Take a look at some of the Pokemon clones out there and you will see similarities that put TemTem to shame. Nintendo has not taken any legal action on those clones because "similar" is not enough to be able to sue them. It's fine that Crema wants to tweak things to make them more unique, but honestly they don't need to change a single thing.

    5. Andrea on

Amazing! Congratulations. Also, Temtem really looks like the monsters fighting game that I've been waiting for years!! Make it real please!! <3

    6. Crema Creator on

@Jorge Thanks for your feedback Jorge. Like I told you on Twitter we're not infringing on any patents or copyrights. We're not making these changes to reduce the legal risk, because there's none.

We're not looking to make a completely new creature collection game with everything unique and that's what would Temtem would end up looking if we change everything you mention. We're upfront about what we want and we're just looking to change what our fanbase is most complaining about.

Feel free to ping us on Discord if you want to discuss further!

Really looking forward to it, I need something new to be addicted to.

    8. Jorge on

I am the one who has been reacting on Twitter (@pokexperto) regarding the potential legal issues you may be facing due to its similarities to Pokémon. I wouldn't consider it as a "bad reaction", rather constructive criticism based on the fact that (a) I am a lawyer with some experience on copyright law and (b) I run one of the biggest Pokémon websites in Spanish and thus can be considered knowledgeable on the core aspects of the Pokémon series.

Seeing that you have taken my comments seriously and that you will be changing some aspects of the game so that TemTem's personality is able to stand on its own and reduce the legal risk involved in being too similar to Pokémon has convinced me to fund your project ^_^. I wasn't convinced at first due to the potential reaction from Nintendo/TPC to this game leaving backers without our rewards.

I will mention some of the more striking similarities, maybe you can do something about them:
1.- Why 8 Dojos (aka Gyms)? Also why "Leaders"?
2.- Battle and wild TemTem intro animations are too similar to Pokémon.
3.- Digital TemTem sounds much like Porygon.
4.- Type chart has been simplified and renamed a bit, is it enough?
5.- Squads of 6 TemTem are much like teams of 6 Pokémon.
6.- Battles being 2vs2 is alright: removing random elements and including Pick and Ban system also distances you from Pokémon. However reducing competitive gameplay to 4 TemTem in 2vs2 makes it too similar to VGC.
7.- Breeding includes Eggs (this is to be expected I guess) and inheriting stats and Egg Moves, very much like Pokémon. Genetic degradation is a nice addition though.
8.- Clan Belsoto sounds much like Team Rocket.
9.- Those digital cards acting as Poké Balls.
10.- Each Temtem can have up to two types, but techniques can only have one type. This is exactly as in Pokémon.

Backed up to 40$, I am sure this game will be amazing if you manage to do everything you want!
      Looking forward to the beta.

¡Enhorabuena chicos!

The Pokemon similarities didn't bother me at all, but changing some of that to give Temtem a more distinct identity (...and avoid any potential legal issues...) does seem like a good idea.

Love how fast this game has been backed! It's only been a few days since it started and just yesterday it looked like things were slowing down! That's really amazing and I'm so happy for you guys! For all of us!

But lets keep pledging to get he FULL game experience we all deserve on ALL platforms we can manage! Don't stop spreading the word, guys! I want to be able to spend years on this game, as opposed to simply months.

      Congrats on getting funded!

I have a question about a backer activity - are you all thinking about doing backer-voted Temtem designs? It's something that Re:Legend has done for its kickstarter backers, and it's one of the best features of their campaign. It feels like the backers are really included when they're allowed to vote on monster designs each month from a selection you all provide as options.

    16. Phill on

Dont really need to worry about the evolution thing. Digimon evolve in basically the same way in lower levels. Unless you plan on having each temtem show their growth in the evolution, but that would be a lot of animation needed, for things people will probably end up skipping
