About this project
It was supposed to be an easy heist. Each of the eight persons involved had their own private reason for wanting to drag Joe The Courier into their personal catastrophes.
With a person who has the ability to see your heart’s desire and locate it without fail, who could resist employing them... and by force if necessary.
So through careful planning, one major binding spell, a few underhanded tricks and a series of unfortunate events, the eight pirates involved all find themselves magically bound to one another. Their own trap backfired and now prevented them from getting more than one hundred miles away from the very Courier they tried to capture.
Not to mention that exceeding the one hundred mile limit starts a rather nasty (and painful) physical reaction for all involved and especially to the one who exceeded the limit.
And worse yet, all eight pirates find that instead of having power over the Courier, which was their original plan, Joe now has power over them!
After discovering that the binding spell that cursed them could be broken by finding the things that her captures desire most, Joe finds herself stuck with a group full of clashing ideals, beliefs, goals and each criminal wants their issue resolved first.
It's the type of story where Final Fantasy steps into the Weird West and has a love-child Firefly/Serenity along the way. It is an action-packed story filled with intriguing characters and exciting capers. From creative takes on magic to high-speed train robberies and daring airship rescues, it’s a fantasy adventure of epic proportion – with a few laughs thrown in.
This kickstarter is the first printing of book ONE of myseries Katharos: The Shattered World. The comic will have 36-40 pages and it will be in full color. The book will be a little larger than a over-sized European graphic novel (9x12 inches). It will also cover cost of prints, tee-shirts and the website where the comic will be posted. While this series will be online to read at Saturday AM, a successful kickstarter will allow me much higher print runs of the book, posters, and prints that will help get the word out about the series!
My name is Beverly (Known online as SirCrazylot). I have a full time night job as a tech support agent to pay the bills. When I am not working the graveyard I'm spending the rest of my time working on Katharos: The Shattered World.
I love world building, games, comics and animation. With Katharos: The Shattered World I get to create a fun and exciting place where I can design and explore many cultures, draw steampunk-styled styled robots and monsters. All, with an added pinch of Victorian allure and Weird Western flair.
The theme of the story centers around the idea of forging bonds, second chances and following your calling.
The main ideas for Katharos: The Shattered World were birthed during my college days. After college the story was placed on a back burner as I felt that it wasn't time for it. This was around the year 2001. Then in 2009 i participated in my first NANOWRIMO and was challenged with writing A 50,000 word story in 30 days.
It was grueling, time consuming and the most fun I had had typing in a long time. From that point onward Katharos: the Shattered World took the front seat in my creative life.
Then came a four week event called Making Comics MOOC which also contributed to putting together and developing nearly 13 years of writing, character designs, story crafting and so many more ideas.
I am writing, drawing, lettering and publishing Katharos: The Shattered World myself.
There is already a large overarching story planned for Katharos: The Shattered World. The overall story will be broken down into smaller self-contained six to eight issue “seasons” that further along the characters’ stories as well as the wars and alliances going on in their world. The individual arcs range from low-key character back stories to wars of epic proportions. Katharos: The Shattered World will showcase a fantastical and diverse cast that is well peppered with nods to mythology, role-playing games and steam-punk.
I have detailed outlines for the first eight chapters (the first story arc), finished scripts for books one through eight and am currently drawing the pages of book one.
Eight of the most wanted pirates in the Realm of Rahyv.
Each have a personal reason for wanting to employ Joe the Courier. They have tried individually and failed and to catch her in the past. Driven by their own personal reasons, these criminals banded together in hopes of capturing The Courier and making her locate the things they want most. But with eight people wanting eight very different things, they find themselves at odds regarding who gets to go first.
Here's the first map of Katharos: The Shattered World.
Here are the maps of the world of Rahyv illustrating the 3 main sections. The red areas are lands that have been devastated by The Blight at the time of issue one of the comic. The maps will gain more detail as the story moves along and as you (the reader) learn more about the world these characters live in.
The Ground-Lands: Fiends run rampant and the people lives are powered by steam and a mineral called Black Opal; the most valuable source of energy of all the lands. The people are weary, aggressive and always on the lookout for attacks from the Skies above or from the Natural Disaster that has been plaguing the lands known as The Blight. The constant struggle with the land has turned the Ground Dwellers into a hard people.
Shamelessly unapologetic and unmerciful, The Ground-Lands is a place where it is true that only the strong survive.
The Outer-Ring: In that place just beyond the atmosphere is the realm called The Outer-Ring. It’s an artificial place where technology rules and everyone has their arms full of deceitful secrets. The residents of this land are the longest lived of the mortals that make up the land of Rahyv. They are a highly intelligent culture of people known as Sparks. These powerful entities, a mixture of Fae and Machine, have spent a long time observing the two realms grow, flourish and decay. Since their exile from the Sky Empires many years ago, they established their new home in the ring that surrounds their world.Their isolation, curiosity and jaded nature have lead them to become the most technologically advanced amongst the the races.

Risks and challenges
I am 100% dedicated to making Katharos: The Shattered World. Meeting the funding goal is just the beginning.
Katharos: The Shattered World is still in development and there are a number of pages left to complete. The greatest challenge before me is completing the book on schedule and having sent off to the printers at the selected time in July 2014.
Although the company I use is extremely efficient and I'm positive of a quick turnaround time, there could potentially be a few delays in the printing process. In reality, delays in printing are always possible and there is some risk of Katharos: The Shattered World coming out a few weeks behind schedule.
Thanks again for taking the time to consider investing in Katharos: The Shattered World, I hope you enjoy it as much as I am making it.
