Story of Two Wolves
Two wolves -- one white, one black -- separated by expanses of treacherous wilderness but forever connected in memory and spirit. Their song in the night echoes out to each other, "I'm here! Where are you?" In the stars, a memory of time they shared together. In the moon, a reminder of the here and now that keeps them apart. Luckily for them, the lonely distance between them can be traveled in time. As the moon continues to wax and wane, they will be reunited again if you help them.
My name is Carrie Lindstrom - but many of you may know me by my 20-year-old screenname: "Crazdude". I am a digital and traditional media artist. My commissions and merchandise have rocked my followers in my first two years running my own business. [Coloring books, prints, originals, stickers, shirts, and more are all available at Crazdude.com/shop/ ]
The more I immerse myself in my full-time independent freelance art & design business, the more I want to try new mediums, styles, and products. And Now that I'm entering year 3, I'm eager to expand and heighten my shop offerings with some shiny metal (and, of course, GLITTER!)
As with any new product, I'm chomping at the bit to see my concept grow from sketch, to digital concept, to completion. Now I'm braving the wild world of enamel pins! Due to the expense involved, it's an intimidating leap for someone unsure how people will favor my designs. That's where you come in!
For my first Kickstarter, my goal is to raise $1,500 to cover the manufacturing costs in exchange for pins! As more people pledge to my goal, the more likely everyone will get to hold the very first Crazdude enamel pins in their hands!
100 of each "Wax and Wane" pins (200 pins) will be produced upon reaching the goal of $1,500. If the goal is overshot, more pins will be produced to meet demand!
There will only be two pin designs in this series - 3+ pin pledges will be a mix-and-match combo the two existing designs (two and one, three of one kind, etc.)
EDIT: There will be stretch goal bonus of 1.25" silver pendants! See update #5 for design and info! The plan is for Goal + $500 ($2000 in pledges) to make 100 of each of these 2 pendants happen!
Additionally, once the Stretch Goal is surpassed by $300, I will include my 3" Howling Wolf vinyl stickers - my agouti colored wolf, white wolf, and black wolf - with all backer orders.
EDIT: All pin backer orders will now come with these stickers as soon as $1500 is raised!
Due to the fact that these pins are rather large (1.5") in hard enamel with extravagant extras (like the charm, chainlink, and glitter enamel), this pin project is a bit pricier than most standard pins.
The charm needs to be produced similar to the main portion of the pin and then attached to each pin with chain. A lot of labor and materials involved in the manufacturing of these special pins!
Here are some of the key features!
- 1.5" hard enamel with glitter accents (Silver for "Wax", Gold for "Wane")
- Shiny silver plated metal finishing for the white wolf & shiny gold plated metal finishing for the black wolf
- 0.25" star charm with glitter enamel
- Each charm fastened to each pin by either gold-plated or silver plated metal chain link
- Rubber clutches (to keep the pin fastened to clothing)
- Crazdude designed holographic backing card
Unfortunately, I will not be handling add-ons during this Kickstarter project. If you would like to purchase additional pins or stickers, all leftover stock will be available on Crazdude.com/Shop after the project is successful and complete!
The initial funding goal of $1,500 will be used to cover
- Production of 100 of each of the "Wax and Wane" pins (80%)
- Kickstarter fees (10%)
- Shipping [envelopes, labels, postage] (5%)
- This number was calculated to also provide a safety net in case of an unforeseen shipping emergency (5%).
- Kickstarter live: March-April
- Funds are received: Mid April
- Manufacturing: April-May
- Pins (and stickers) ship to me: Mid May
- Rewards are sent out/arrive to backers: Late May/June
International pledges: please allow extra time to get your pins!
Risks and challenges
This is my first Kickstarter. I have worked with print production manufacturers to bring my concepts to life but I have never designed enamel pins nor have I ordered enamel pins to be manufactured.
My pledge to Quality and Customer Service:
I'm a stickler for detail and want the best quality in all that I do. I also have a track record of excellent communication and customer service with custom work, preorders for merchandise, and shop sales.
As for pin manufacturing, I have researched the timelines, requirements, and manufacturers, plus I have spoken with successful Kickstarter-backed artists before initiating my campaign.
I have chosen a manufacturer that comes highly recommended for their quality and excellent communication. I am confident that I will be up to date on any news while the pins are being produced so that I can inform my backers in a timely fashion.
The final design may look slightly different from the original design [mostly due to tangible metals and enamels versus inconsistent monitor interpretations of my artist rendering but also in order to facilitate the manufacturing process.] I have been in touch with the manufacturer already, and have prepared the designs for the best result.
If the pins produced aren't up to my standards, I will make sure they are made properly which may delay the shipping date! Production alone can take a month and it will be a couple weeks for the Kickstarter funds to get to me. The pins are ready to order as soon as I receive funds from Kickstarter!
Reminder: As a Kickstarter Backer, you have nothing to worry about thanks to Kickstarter's All or Nothing policy. If the project doesn't reach its goal, you will not be charged.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
