Hello! and welcome to my Kickstarter.
I hope, with your help, to collect the last five years of my sketchbook work into one volume, titled "Vessel". I hope to share with you an insight to my process and maybe even inspire you to pick up a pencil yourself!
I love pouring my ideas into my sketchbook. It is a constant source of comfort, escape and inspiration, allowing me to explore my ideas and thoughts in a very honest way, Rough and ready, devoid of judgement and preconceptions.
5 years ago I left my job as a graphic designer to pursue a career as a full time artist, I have found that keeping a sketchbook has been an invaluable tool. During that period i have filled nearly 500 pages of various moleskine sketchbooks with my scribbles, allowing me to try new things, experiment with materials and techniques and fuelling my work as an artist.
Some drawings have found lives as paintings but all have played their part in the development of my art. For me, my sketchbook is a place where it’s impossible to make mistakes. No marks, no pencil stroke or charcoal smudge is “wrong”, each is a step further along the road to creating the art I aspire to.
"Vessel" will be a 104 page full colour clothbound collection of drawings from my moleskine sketchbooks over the past 5 years. As a long term lover of the touch and feel of printed material I will ensure that the end result is a quality product.
Paper will be a 120gsm uncoated stock and the design will be simple, allowing the work space to breathe, and the outer will be a quality black clothbound hardback with gold foil blocked logo and title.
The content will be in a (roughly) chronological order, showing how ideas have developed from one sketch to the next, and showing how my work has developed over time.
Rewards will be focussed on signed, numbered copies of the book, with additional exclusive items available at different reward levels. The drawing "Vessel' has been created especially to capture the essence of my drawn work and will only be available in connection with the book.
Thank you for taking the time to check out my Kickstarter. I am only able to paint, draw and create for a living thanks to the support of people like you, and for that I am truly grateful. Hopefully together we can make this project happen - it would be an honour to be able to share my drawings with you!
Risks and challenges
So risks and challenges...
There is always something that crops up to throw a spanner in the works, but the project should be relatively straightforward to handle.
The work is all existing and drawings done and ready to go. With a background in graphic design, I will be creating the print ready artwork for the book myself. This allows me to have the best control over quality and meeting deadline.
I don't foresee any problems with printing the book, which will be printed by ExWhyZed in London. I am experienced in managing print jobs and they have a proven track record in producing quality print projects for the arts and creative industries.
If the project is lucky enough to be funded, the hardest part will be in creating the additional drawings and commissions dependent on the rewards chosen, but I have allowed additional time for those, so am confident they can be achieved.
Post and packaging costs for each level of reward are based on the cost of shipping the book with a tracking number, additional items are covered within the cost of the different pledge, and again, i have allowed time for packing and shipping all the rewards.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
