I just checked in, been on crates forum, thanks for update on boxed version
@eisprinzessin: Thanks for the pointer to the article, but it makes no mention of any DRM-free release.
As I've noted in the latest update at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/crateentertainment/grim-dawn/posts/1334562 Crate Entertainment have not even made a statement about DRM-free availability and this is 2 years after their estimated release.
Guys, if you're not going to honour your commitments, at least have the decency to admit it and provide refunds to those who backed in the expectation of a DRM-free version.
@Hexton - before we can print disks for a boxed version, we have to complete the game and create a master copy. Otherwise we'd be sending out disks with an unfinished game on them. Thus, the boxed version will be printed sometime after the full digital release.
Too bad I missed the opportunity to be in the credits, although I got the $100 reward :/ But as far as I know the deadline was last summer? Oh well...
Wonder when the boxed game is gonna come out. Didn't really follow the updates. I tried to wait til full release, but is it worth to play already? Strangely enough, I'm suddenly very excited.
So... no way for the credit thing, right?
Three years and 59 hours in, I just want to say thank you. I've backed over 100 kickstarters and this is easily among the most satisfying, even as we're still in early release and awaiting Act 4. This has been a colossal undertaking and you've more than earned my money Day 1 if you kickstart a second project down the line.
Any word on the Boxed Copy of the game?
@AstralWanderer - the DRM-free version will become available at release, and that will at about the end of the year. See http://www.nextpowerup.com/news/20120/crate-entertainment-q-a/ for details. It is somewhere in the middle.
@Gareth - you will get an additional code to unlock the exclusive items on Steam.
How will the Kickstarter exclusive items work? Will we get them on steam?
I'm curious about how you're going to convey the story without cinematics. maybe the community can help you there?
I'd like to ask (again) when the promised DRM-free (i.e. non-Steam) version will be available for backers. We're now 19 months past its estimated release.
I'll wear that powdered wig yet!
Consumers with legal rights they are under no obligation to give up (cannot accept steam tos) cannot play this game as of yet BECAUSE it uses steam; therefore the update "we can all play it" is completely misrepresentative of the situation.
Ryan check you settings shot loot might be turned off?
Robert try https://support.humblebundle.com/hc/en-us
hey i didn't get a key even tho i tried the keyresender via humblestore. can you help me out? email@example.com
i just downloaded the update and now I can't pick up any items. Even started a new character to test it out and nothing
Another request for monthly updates on KS - backers with a dozen plus projects don't necessarily have the time to track down specific forum threads for every KS (and those bothered by updates can always unsubscribe).
As someone who pledged for a DRM-free release, I'd also like to know when a Steam-free version will be available too. Thanks!
Torment needs some help from RPG fans. They need $11k in the next 6 days to hit their stretch goal to add a new area to the game and they are getting less than $1k a day lately.
Planescape: Torment was perhaps the greatest PC game of all time and this successor looks amazing. If you love RPGs and you haven't backed it yet, please do so.
They post fortnightly updates on their forum. This is the latest. http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php…
@Jarrah : I'm happy to see your avatar, it reminds me when KS had beautiful colors for the wheels in profile. Yet mine are totally ugly (not "rainbowed" anymore). I made a comment on this to KS team and got an answer, but really not sure they're going to repair this.
Funny thing, Kickstarter just add the "backer number" of each project and I discover I'm the happu 46th backer of this project ! :)
Yup, should be the time for another update. Overall the project is so much late that monthly updates should be an obvious approach :)
I wish we got monthly updates.
The August 2013 release date is pretty much in the past now, and we've only got the beta. Has the team gone off to get other jobs?
hey how about an update huh.....
I would also have some news on when the game is planned to be finished.
It has been a long time since an update. How far is the game until final release?
I've been holding off playing any of the beta/early stuff because I like to be surprised, but I'm pretty excited to play that I may give in :)
Sometimes viruses masquerade as valid operating system files and this can cause anti-virus programs to register false positives when they mistake the legitimate files for viruses. For some reason, Grim Dawn seems to be generating false positives with some anti-virus programs and, unfortunately, since we don't know what files are triggering it, there isn't a lot we can do on our end to prevent it. I'm sorry if this is causing you undue frustration - it has been a major pain for us too since several people have experienced this issue and even posted warnings to other users. There is more detail on this issue in the Steam support topic and some possible work-arounds:
Anyone know why the exe for this would be flagged as a trojan virus?
Andrew - if you contact firstname.lastname@example.org we'd be happy to assist you.
Hey Joe P - You can actually play right now. We opened the game up to all KS backers at the end of December and announced it in Update 34. Check out the update for instructions on how to get Grim Dawn and start playing: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/crateentertainment/grim-dawn/posts/704621
This comment has been removed by Kickstarter.
Who do I need to speak to about obtaining my second key?
Help would be appreciated.
Confused... Purchased a lower tier kickstarter for full game access, but now Grim Dawn has become some form of Greenlight game where I won't be able to play until its finished (if it ever will be)?
Will there be a different key for the expansion or will those of us who has "Grim Dawn Digital Release + Expansion!" keys automatically be detected as a +expansion key, when that time comes?
Also please do check out this kickstarter https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/area5/outerlands-season-one - It's a documentary series on gaming, done by some really talented guys who has done lots of other quality content, eg. the making of The Last of Us and the history of Street Fighter for Capcom.
-Flavius, you should be receiving email notifications from KS when we post updates, such as when alpha was released. Could it have ended up in your spam box?
-Alexandre, it hasn't been sent yet but the sound crew finished the final masters and are just putting some last touches on it / getting it all in order. It should be available in the next month or so and will appear on your humble store page for download (the digital version - physical merchandise will go out after the game is finished).
I don't remember, so does someone know if the soundtracks have been sent? (I am a Digital Deluxe Edition backer)
Nevermind, I figured it out.... painless, but wish there was some better way to notify backers who don't watch KS pages constantly. I had to find out about the the early access through a Gamestop video on my Roku. :-O
I'm a $50 digital backer. Can I play the Early Access game on Steam or some other place? How do I go about doing that? Thanks...
And I just put in a good couple hours in early access - very happy about how the game is turning out. Already like it better than Path of Exile.
Have to throw in my two cents in support of those people who see kickstarter for what it is: a crowdfunding site. We can't even expect that a project we support on kickstarter will ever get made; we're simply donating in hopes that our contribution will increase that likelihood.
I completely agree that if selling the game through Steam sales helps to fund your company and thus (hopefully) improve the quality of the product you deliver, that you should do it. Limiting your funding opportunities because your kickstarter supporters didn't have the same 'deal' is absurd. Kickstarter isn't about deals, it's about supporting projects we want to exist. I don't even expect more money to directly correlate to more time spent on the game. That's not how profit works.
I understand people's frustration, but have to believe it derives from us not having bottomless financial resources. At the same time, though, I find it ironic that we commit time to complaining about not saving a few dollars for a game on the Internet (that would have cost $40+ from a studio with corporate overhead) while spending nowhere near that effort to correct the conditions that make us lack those resources in the first place. Take that how you will, and I'm not barking at people to 'go get a job' (I don't have one, and can hopefully afford to never have one again), but there are battles that need to be fought and this is not one of them.
@Jesus @Courtade Pierre-Alexandre
Hi I backed at the 45$ so I get early access but I can't get my key from the HumbleStore. I sent them a mail and am waiting for an answer. Anything you can do?
As somebody who only backed at the basic tier, I'm happy to have more $$ in your pockets, and more testers prior to v1.0.0. :-)
"I totally did not realize people would see Steam Early Access as different from us continuing to sell the game through our web store."
-- Steam is much more visible reminder that they no longer have exclusive early access-- and exclusivity is a big reason why some folks back early access, or even back at all. I bet some didn't even realize you could jump in on alpha/beta access via your web store. My US$0.02.
"[We] plan to open up access to existing digital release backers by Jan as a compromise given that the game should have been finished by now."
-- GREAT News! Thanks, Crate!
Agree with Courtade Pierre-Alexandre on this:
"The problem is the "EXCLUSIVE" access to the beta was sell on kickstarter for 35$, without a real feedback on the game, and one year latter it's only 27$ on steam"
It doesn´t feel good. Some of us supported this game from one year ago, now we see the game on early access, cheaper and new supporters jumping right in to try the beta. Like seeing that girl you always wanted going out with a guy she just met.
It´s not dramatic, I can even understand the developers. But next time it will better to wait before preordering too early. Even if in the end you get the girl.
"maybe im wrong but i think the game is in steam and released and the key dont work."
Manuel, the game is only out on Early Access and is still being developed. However, you will be able to play soon as we plan to open up access to existing digital release backers by Jan as a compromise given that the game should have been finished by now.
"Have you guys reconsidered your stance on linux now after the SteamOS announcement? Any plans to try and port it now with that in mind?"
Hi Ben, unfortunately we are still not in a place where we have the time / resources to consider a port. First priority is finishing the game. At that point, we'll have to see where we are and whether it makes sense. On the upside though, while it may not be as good as a port, we've heard from some linux users that Grim Dawn does run well with Wine.
