So here's the deal...
Phase One (this is already done):
I came up with the idea for iOver Golf last summer. After getting several putting lessons for me and my son and my daughter I began to understand the importance of getting your eyes directly over the ball when putting.
We built the app over the summer and released it on the iTunes store last fall. The app has been downloaded thousands of times but it really hasn't gotten the traction that anyone would want.
Here is the video from Phase One:
One of the toughest things for amateur golfers to do is to keep their head still while they are putting. Most people make the putt and then turn their bodies to see if the putt went in the hole. When we move our body and move our head it changes the face angle of the putter at the point of impact. That means, for a right handed golfer, they are going to miss the putt on the left side because they shut the face down too quickly.
So, in addition to having your eyes over the ball, you also want to keep your head still as you make your stroke. That functionality is easily added but it costs money!
I need help to make modifications to the iOver app to add the head movement functionality.
Here is a mock-up of how the app would look:
So, when completed, the golfer will be able to practice having their eyes over the ball and then be able to practice keeping their head still as they make the putting stroke. Genius!
The iOver Golf App will measure the movement of the golfer's head while making a putting stroke.

Here is plenty more information for those that want to know more about why this app is so important:
The Reality Is:
- You can make a perfect putting stroke...but if you are off line by a small margin, you will miss the putt.
- You can make a very imperfect stroke...but if you have it on line, you much more likely to make the putt.
So how can you help get the golf on line? Get your eyes directly over the ball!
Listen to what my boys Dave and Jack say:“Putting mechanics are mostly a matter of preference, but there is one universal rule for putts from six feet and in: Eyes over the ball…you'll see the line better. Come to think of it, it's a good rule for all putts.” –Dave Stockton
“Second, your eyes should be over the ball. The most important part of “over the ball” is what I call “down the line, over the ball.” It may be a little behind the ball which is the way I putt so that I can see the line. Or, what is probably preferable, and a way I wish I could’ve putt, is my eyes directly over the ball.” – Jack Nicklaus
With the iOver Golf App you will use the latest in iSight technology from Apple to align your eyes directly over the golf ball. Simply place the iPhone on the ground and align your putter head to the side of the iPhone. Look down at your iPhone as if it is your golf ball and the iPhone will adjust your position until your eyes are directly over the ball. It is that simple.
The iOver Golf app can be used:
- At the course, on the practice putting green, before you play to check your eye position.
- At the office, during your breaks, to practice good eye position.
- At home, in your living room.
- Anywhere you have your iPhone!
- Everyone has their iPhone with them all the time allowing you to practice eye alignment anytime.
- Alignment is exact and perfect.
- It is inexpensive. You can't buy a mirror for $1.99!
- It only takes about 30 seconds to align your eyes using the app.
- You can use it every time before you play.
Risks and challenges
Creating an app that will sell in the iTunes Store is always a challenge.
My partner in the development of the app in its current form is Bruce Seymour from MEA Mobile (MEAMobile.com). They will be working with me to add the new functionality.
Over 1,000,000 people have downloaded MEA Mobile developed apps and they have apps that have been featured in more than 20 iTunes top ten positions worldwide. I am confident in their ability to deliver a fantastic app.
Now it is a matter of taking it to the next level with your help.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
