We need your help
Hello from everyone here at Crafty Lupine Publishing. We are stoked to introduce you to the wonderful universe of Gordian Layers. We invested ten years of our lives into improving ourselves and our game. We have learned a lot, and we are almost there but we are missing one crucial element; the art.
Everything is set to go, but we need to pay our starving artists. This is why we are on Kickstarter. Without your help, our hopes and dreams stop here and we won't be able to continue.
We are using The Game Crafter for the creation and shipping of this game. We have made this choice for a number of reasons, but we are a small company and having them fulfill our orders will help ensure quality and timliness.
Gordian Layers is a story rich, card driven, location control board game with a high skill ceiling but a low entry barrier.
Players will draft the factions they will include in their deck and use them to take strategic locations or to vie for influence over their peoples. Each faction comes with a unique faction ability that changes the dynamics of the game in a big way.
Experiment to find the combinations that best suit your play style.

Strategic Choices: Gordian Layers is a game where every choice you make sets a plan in motion that will drive you towards victory.
Faction Drafting: All factions are subdivided into segments, indicated by the gems on the bottom of the card. At the start of the game you will be selecting what Layers you will be using. Then you will choose which segments of those factions to combine into a powerful deck. Each segment combination creates unique interactions.
Unique Faction Abilities: Not all Layers are made the same. Nothing illustrates this fact more than the fact that each faction comes with its own mechanic unique to that faction. Some of these are keywords only found in that faction, others will be special zones or tokens. Faction abilities define the cards but they do not define you. Find your favorite combinations and champion them towards victory.
Addictive and replayable: With the amount of choice you have, no two games ever look the same. It makes you want to try a different approach and try again right away.
A Diplomatic Path to Victory: You may decide it is not worth it to try and out muscle your opponents, this is where diplomacy comes into play. By playing to a charismatic strategy you may boost the combat power of your army or ignore fighting all together while earning victory points.
Straight Forward Resource System: Gordian Layers features a very simple resource system. Every card in your hand can be discarded to pay for any other card regardless of faction.
Simple Card Designators: Almost all cards can have up to three designators on them. These designators do nothing by themselves, though some cards look for specific ones to interact with and some Layers' abilities revolve around one. This allows for a lot of extra depth to the decision making process without adding any extra text. Because of this, the interaction between Layers is more nuanced and intriguing than it appears.
Shared Turns: Shared turns ensures no one is waiting around for another player's turn. Each player will be participating at every stage of a turn. Reducing the wait time to enjoy the game is always a good thing.
Common Abilities: Some abilities on cards repeat themselves so often there is little need to spell them out every time. By reducing them to a single or two word phrase allows us to simplify game play while taking back some card equity.
Iconography: In all card-based games, you see the same type of triggering effects over and over. In Gordian Layers, we reduced these phrases to a single easy to interpret icon. This once again frees up space on the card and further reduces analysis paralysis.
Whose art are we purchasing?
- These is the very talented artists, ilyaevart and Ryuutsu. You can find them on instagram. We have reached out to several artists interested in contributing to our project. Here is a glimpse of their work.

- By using The Game Crafter, this game is made in the U.S. and all taxes for our U.S. customers are included in the price. Below is the table of shipping costs for your rewards.
*** Price does not include VAT or import costs***
*** If your address is an out of country U.S. military address, we will refund any access shipping you incur in line with the actual shipping costs after the campaign ends.***
Note: International Backers outside of the U.S. will be responsible for any import fees and taxes that may be levied after we have submitted your order.
This is our first project and we plan on being around for some time, growing our business. That being said, we cannot be irresponsible or hasty about funding the shipping burden. While we hope to mitigate shipping costs as this project gets over-funded, we cannot promise we can mitigate all costs you may incur. We have set the shipping costs accordingly and most customers in Canada may not have to pay any extra taxes.
We understand that shipping to our international backers may be cost prohibitive and that the others in the industry has found interesting ways to mitigate this cost. As a small company we have decided to print and fulfill through the print-on-demand company known as The Game Crafter and hope to explore international options available to us in the future.

Crafty Lupine Publishing is a team of three friends who love games and want to share what they love about gaming with a wider audience. Ten years ago, our lives diverged on three very different paths, with one moving to a different state, and another moving halfway across the world. Regardless, we have strove to finish the project you see today. Gordian Layers is our first passion project, one we had to redesign more than once. I am happy to say all that love and tears that were poured into this project finally has created something we can be proud of. We learned a lot about ourselves, the business and game design along the way and I can say that we are ready to take on the challenges of being a gaming company has in store for us.

Risks and challenges
We are a new company, and we know it. Which is why we have taken several steps to minimize risks to ourselves and our customers;
*We wont be paying ourselves
All of the money we raise above and beyond the price to get you a finished product will be invested in art and equipment for the company.
*We will be printing through The GameCrafter:
Being completely print-on-demand allows us to outsource your shipping to a company that knows how to do it. This keeps risks and price/time uncertainties to a minimum. In our experience they also have a really high quality on their cards and pieces. We are ready to publish as soon as we get the art.
*All the cards have been templated:
The only thing left to do is pay the artists and wait for the beautiful pieces to come in. In the meantime, we might as well tinker with some game balance.
*Generous shipping deadline:
Six months is a long time to wait for a hot new game you can't wait to play. However, we will be doing everything in our power to publish and ship months earlier than expected.
We are excited to be here and we have done a lot of research into how to launch properly. Our game is ready, but we need you to bring life to it. Please help us take the next step our journey.
