About this project
Former DreamWorks animator, Ken Fountain, had a dream: to create animated songs that would educate, much in the same way Schoolhouse Rock did during his childhood. It didn’t take long to convince a group of friends to join him in that dream, and up sprung the idea of Crackerbox Studio. With their first offering, “Geo-Me!”, this small group of animators, coders and musicians hopes to lay a foundation on which many more songs, stories and educational apps can be made.
UPDATE! All pledges of $20 or more now receive a free download of the Geo-Me! app when it is released! (even if you've already pledged.)

So what is “Geo-Me!”? It's an iPad app that provides a fun way to introduce a child to world geography. While watching animated stories and singing along, kids will be able to create Geo-Me’s of their own, dressing them up in different articles of clothing and accessories that each represent different values of geographical data (population, elevation, climate and anthrome); and through that exercise they can explore the world map and learn about all the ways geographers measure and classify the globe. More importantly, they will learn where other people live and compare those locations to their own.
The goal is to inspire curiosity, to entice the participant to take a wider look at the world we live in and compare and contrast geographies and demographies in a way that is entertaining and probably brand new. It can be a first opportunity to learn about the many big cities, rural villages, working croplands, frozen tundras, sprawling savannas, lush forests and other geographical features that provide a life for all of the different people on the planet.
We believe in learning by exploring. The Crackerbox folks believe that inspiring a child to ask their own questions creates a much more valuable and long lasting learning experience. We think “Geo-Me!” is that kind of inspiration; opening a child’s eyes to all of the resources they have on the modern search-able/zoom-able map, and the wealth of information on the internet, to get answers to their questions about the citizens of the world.
Bringing it to Kickstarter serves two functions; it allows Crackerbox to get this first creation out in the world, but it will also open the door for more. We plan to create a vast collection, covering multiple subjects, stretching the boundaries of entertainment, education and technology; as well as employing talented artists, musicians, animators and technicians. We think “Geo-Me!” is a great place to start!

Risks and challenges
There are really two large and looming challenges to getting "Geo-Me!" completed.
The first is the amount of animated footage we need to produce. The experience is driven by the song, "Where I Am", which contains twelve character verses, each needing it's own 60-second animated video. Completing all of this animation in a reasonable amount of time will require a few additional freelancers working on it. This will allow us to release within a few months of getting funding.
The second challenge is organizing the giant collection of data in just the right way to make the creation of your own Geo-Me a fun and educational experience. This will take a pool of innovative ideas and clever solutions, and the contribution of a few extra experienced coders.
We really believe in our vision of a fun and functional learning tool. We believe in the Geo-Me's. We thank you so much for your help.
