When CONOR meets HOLLIE, they fall for each other. They feel like they’ve known each other forever. But there’s a massive reason why their love can never happen..

Conor is late for his first Community Service meeting and all that’s left is litter picking or the care home. He’s not ‘cleaning up after no one’ so signs up for the care home. When he gets there, though, the first thing he has to do is clean up where someone’s been sick. He’s depressed; this job is shit. Then Conor sees Hollie. Maybe this place isn’t that bad after all. He’s immediately smitten but he’s not sure she feels the same. He takes a chance and waits for her after he’s finished for the day. He asks her out. He's stunned - she says yes!

CONOR has got himself into trouble and is on Community Service. He acts the hard man but the truth is, he’s struggling with life. He’s had a hard upbringing. His dad wasn’t around and his mum was all over the place. He used to look up to his big brother, but DEAN got in with a bad crowd. He got into more and more trouble and ended up down for life. Conor’s probation officer is worried that his life will go the same way.

HOLLIE works at a care home. It’s not exactly her dream job but at least she’s got one, which is more than a lot of people have these days. She doesn’t mind it. The old folks need someone to look after them, and she feels like it’s important. It’s sad when they die but at least they lived a long life. Unlike her poor brother, stabbed to death at just eighteen. She’ll never get over that and if she could have one wish it’d be to see Danny again and talk to him, even if it was only for five minutes. His death has left an enduring sadness in her life.

Why Donate to STARCROSS-

Starcross is a low-budget film with a full cast of non-professional actors from disadvantaged backgrounds that have been selected from disadvantaged communities.  The project is being made through labour of love by all those involved and all the money raised for the film is solely being spent on expenses and equipment hire. Once the film has finished circulating the festivals it can be used by outreach projectsyouth groups and community based projects to raise awareness of Mental HealthAnti-Knife Crime and Anti-Social behaviour. The film will have screenings in Stoke-on-Trent (Directors Home town) and Nottingham (Writers home town). All donators to the project and all local community groups will be invited to the screening.

If you know of, or are part of a group that would benefit from screening the film, then please to get in touch, donate and promote the campaign.

The main reasons why I'm asking you to donate.

By donating you will be supporting a film that depicts honesty, follows a working class narrative and effectively discusses relevant topics within today's society.

You will be showing support for the use of nonprofessional actors who have seen and experienced some of the issues that are regularly illustrated in British Realism Films. They have been hand picked to not only compliment their roles with real, personal experience, but also to offer them an opportunity to become involved in creative arts and strive for something that wouldn't normally be in their reach.

You are also helping to fight stigma surrounding particular views on who can do what, when and where relating to Mental Health. This is in reference to both my lead actors, one who lives with Schizophrenia and the other who has experienced Anxiety and Depression.

Your donations are not only important to the film, they are important to everyone involved in the project for a variety of reasons.

Please allow us the opportunity to do what we are passionate about, and enable us to create something amazing.

Each week I will be releasing a new promo video to support the campaign.

I currently hold a BA Hons in Film, Television and Radio, In 2013 I graduated from my MA in Film Production, Practice and Theory and since then I have been working as a University Lecturer in Film. I was recently selected by Stoke your Fires (Staffordshire film festival/network) for a digital film mentorship delivered by Sheffield Doc/Fest. I am very passionate about films & documentaries that blur the lines between fiction and non-fiction, subcultures and working class Britain. I love working with people from disadvantaged backgrounds and having them act within film projects.  Due to my own personal upbringing I feel that presenting people from disadvantaged backgrounds with new experiences and challenges via creative film projects aids them with new skills and new found confidence.
