Cost of Living is a comedic web series about the transformation of (recently) gentrified San Francisco from the perspective of best friends, Marisa and Jules, who are struggling to afford a city that no one can afford.
In this 10-episode series, we examine how San Francisco is becoming outrageously expensive through biting wit and hilarious circumstance.
Cost of Living is about how you value your life. You spend 18 years anxious to grow up and then wake up ten years later wondering who the hell you are and where you fit in the world. Hopefully, we are all lucky enough to have a friend as good as Marisa and Jules to navigate adulthood with, until then, Cost of Living provides a hilarious and insightful companion.
Why We Need Funding
We self funded the first two episodes, which included pulling a lot of favors, and doing a lot of the shoot guerilla style. The next 8 episodes are much more ambitious in scope, and will require additional cast, crew, equipment, and multiple locations...there's even a car chase...well really, they are just stuck in traffic. But the traffic is bad. Really bad.
Our second episode "Lady Date" hints at where our story is heading...
The money we earn from this kickstarter goes towards 6 days of shooting this June and will allow us to pay our amazing cast and crew, rent equipment, feed people, and shoot legit with permits.
With your support, we can finish season one and include these new characters into the series...
Hamilton “Hammy” is that girl who used to be your cool friend, but then got married and started reading “Real Simple.” Two years ago, Hammy quit her job as an environmental lawyer to become a full-‐time wife to her software engineer husband, Timothy. Since then her life has slowly evolved into caring about inconsequential things (artisanal toast tasting!), which drives Marisa crazy. It’s easy to write Hammy off, but a twist in the finale shows that there is a lot more going on beneath that annoyingly cheery surface.
Ezra is the fourth friend in this group that went to college at Claremont McKenna and then moved up to the Bay Area. Not only is Ezra as sarcastic and fun as the ladies, but also he’s also deeper and more down to earth.
Dylan embodies the hipster, bike culture of San Francisco. Being a dreamer, he often gets frustrated by how hard it is to make real change here. Lately, he’s been fantasizing about moving to Austin and working at his friend’s bike shop. He’s been in love with Jules since she made him laugh so hard that he shot beer out of his nose at a party three years ago. However, two dreamers does not always make for a stable future.
Timothy is Hamilton’s nerdy software engineer husband who's obsession with making the perfect artisanal cocktail and having placemats that match the season make everyone wonder about him... just a bit.

Risks and challenges
We've already written, budgeted, scheduled, and cast the last 8 episodes of the first season. We just need the funds to do it right!
