About this project
The world of Revelation is a world that has gone into almost complete collapse. A virus has stricken the earth's population and has turned most into flesh eating zombies. Only a small portion of the earth's population remains. That which does remain are either lone wolf survivors or split into various factions like the New State Government or the Re-Birth Nation. Your role in this world is survival. You are an ordinary human starting a year after the zombie outbreak started. You barely remember the happiness of the old world. All you know now is death and surviving that which is already dead.
You will need to harness your strengths and knowledge to survive in this new world. Develop agriculture, harness alternative energy, construct buildings, and develop concoctions to help you survive long term. Discover a whole arsenal of weapons in the game at your disposal. Fight hordes of infected along side our special infected boss zombies. Create maps with our GM friendly map tool kit that shows you exactly how to draw out what you are thinking about.
All of the tools are at your disposal. Take the world in your hands and play out your ultimate zombie survival plan using our home brew d10 mechanic for fast and easy game play so players can concentrate more on the story and less time fumbling around with hard to use mechanics. Create and keep track of your character with our super friendly character system that makes it easy and super fast to not only create your character, but to upgrade him or her as well. We made the tools. Now all you have to do is use them. Harness the tools at your disposal and they will surely help you discover YOUR revelation.
(More info on what a revelation near the bottom)
The core rule book will consist of everything you will need to create and immerse yourself into a zombie apocalyptic world. This will include information on how to create a character, world information like statistics on guns, structures, zombies, factions, ect, as well as an extensive section for the GM so he or she can have easy to use creative tools. The book will be approximately 200 - 250 pages and will be in color with great graphic design that will be created by a professional artist once we get funded. We want to have a sort of comic book/ anime style with vibrant color schemes but also want to have a variety of different art styles if possible for certain areas of the book to match certain themes.
The front cover art will be designed by a local artist preferably and will be drafted as soon as we get funded. We will keep you updated.
YOU WILL RECEIVE THE .pdf VERSION AS SOON AS IT IS FINISHED IF YOU BACK THE PHYSICAL BOOK.
The special edition book will have approximately 50 pages or so of extra content. This will range from concept art, other various pictures, encounter maps, and much more.
The front cover art for this book will be different from the regular edition. Since this is a limited edition book we will work extra hard on the art for this book and am even accepting some suggestions.
We wanted a game centered around survival and horror.
We could have easily written up a 20 page rule book on the basics but we believe in that sort of “icing on the cake.” Below are some examples of that.
1) An easy to manage sanity system
2) We have taken out classes and replaced them with our own leveling system that focuses more on character development and less on being over powered
3) Crafting the rules and game elements to fit a modern environment so you can apply your game to any modern setting
4) A huge emphases on incorporating realistic survival rules
5) Game mechanics that are not only smooth for the player but also for the GM
6) Realistic faction groups that might emerge from a zombie apocalypse
7) The use of a similar overall goal in every game (Discovering your Revelation)
The sanity system in this game is a major part of the game and how it is played. In a real zombie apocalypse, a person might not take in some situations as good as others. This will affect their overall sanity and directly affect how they play. For instance, in our game, you can have a max sanity rating of 100%. If you drop to 0% by experiencing some traumatic events, you’ll snap and start attacking people around you until you gain some sanity back. You might have to restrain a person with rope or something similar and calm them down before they do harm to you.
The way we have made Revelation allows a GM to pick up the book and craft a game in any real life place in the real world if they choose. They can use the rules to craft a game starting in your very own house with ease. We wanted people to experience what they would do in a zombie apocalypse if one started in their own neighborhood.
The primary objective in an apocalyptic setting is survival. We have incorporated things like the need to keep energized by consuming food and water, the possibility of getting a broken limb and bleeding out, building customized shelters from materials, creating makeshift weapons, dealing with certain environments and how they affect you, and other aspects of realistic survival situations.
Revelation has a huge emphasis on creativity from both the GM side and the player side. We want players to create what they think of. We have allocated certain tables and rules to let players and GM’s to easily create a variety of custom content like new weapons, structures, chemical mixtures, new enemies, and more. We’ve lain out the tools that we used when crafting the game so you can customize it however you wish.
This game is played using a d10 mechanic. We use all of the standard die but with game play, the d10 will be used the most. Do not throw away your trusty d20 though, we have found a place for that die which is near and dear to all of our hearts.
The main enemy in this game Is “The Zombie.” That enemy has the same stats from level 1 to 10 but it is not that much easier to kill from level to level. If you have one primary enemy to focus on, you can focus your attention on other things for more creative play and creative ways to dispatch that one enemy other than worrying about a whole lot of other enemies. But speaking of a whole lot of enemies, we have some cool rules for hordes of zombies when they attack you. Zombies will be more difficult to kill if they surround you opposed to a single zombie.
That being said, there are special types of “boss” zombies that you can run into. There are about 30 different types. It is rare to run into these, but it happens. These zombies have special traits about them that make them harder to kill and give some spice to combat occasionally. By no means do you want to run into these things if you have the choice.
Though zombies are the primary threat in the game, you also have to worry about other survivors sometimes. A few of those are below. We are contantly working on new factions to add to the game, but these are ones that will be in there for sure.
NEW STATE GOVERNMENT
A pro-government group that includes the remnants of old government and military force that is trying to re-instill a working government by any means necessary.
DISEASE CONTROL UNIT
A group under the NSG that is tasked with dealing with the infected directly
SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH TASK FORCE
A group under the NSG that is in charge of working on a cure to the virus as well as manipulate the virus.
A group of religious fanatics that believe the virus was a sign of their god and want to purge the non-believers.
CIVILIAN MILITARY CORPS
The CMC is not one particular force. The CMC is a term used to describe an anti-NSG group that wants to re-populate a designated area and will keep their group safe by any means necessary. They are often referred to as “freedom fighters.” A group of CMC will often show qualities of a Dictatorship.
During the zombie apocalypse it is important to rediscover your purpose compared to the modern world you used to live in, whatever that may be. No longer are you stuck in that 9-5 desk job. You are now tasked with survival. Your Revelation could be anything. That is partly up to you to create and discover but is also up to your GM.
Think of finding your Revelation as your main quest. It may take a while to find it, but once you do, it is well worth it.
Revelations take many forms. Some of those could be found by:
1. Saving a family from a group of ravaging zombies
2. Saving a child and befriending him or her over time
3. Clearing the zombie threat in your home town or city
4. Eliminating the zombie threat
5. Curing the zombie virus
6. Getting rid of a traitor
Revelations take many forms and can be small or very large but each is very important to the development of your character. The point if a revelation is that is takes a long time and has a giant reflection of who your character is and what role you play in the grand scheme of things other than just surviving day to day.
The leveling system in this game is kind of unique. Yes there are levels (1-10) in this game but we have created it in such a fashion where you really are not that much better at level 10 than level 1. Sure you get a little better every time you level up. This is because in a real situation the longer you adapt to certain situations, the better you are at handling them. As you level up, you will get to choose from 5 different skills (Aptitude, Coordination, Vitality, Physique, and Psyche) which you will level up according to a skill bank. When you level up you will get points to allocate to the skill bank to play how you want to play. If you want to be more on the tank side, you'll go with vitality and coordination where if you want to use your smarts more, you'll go with aptitude. The way we have it designed though, you will not be able to max out every skill, so you will have to choose wisely.
Occasionally when you level up you will get to choose special enhancements that let you have small special bonuses like knowing how to perform martial arts moves, becoming more resistant to the zombie virus, and various other things.
Not only will you have a skill bank and enhancements though, you will also get to choose one of the three knowledge skills in the game, and that is Engineering, Biology, and Chemistry that let spice up your game. As you level up your aptitude you will unlock more abilities you can do with each skill. For instance if you have a high level Chemistry level you'll eventually get to craft some high level explosives that do some major damage. Mix your skills with someone who has Engineering and you can develop a powerful bomb to take out those pesky zombies.
We need your monetary support in helping us hire people for some great artwork and printing costs to get this game out to the public. But not only that, we will use the funds we get to continually create for the world of Revelation such as new campaign books, new item books, monster books, and more! But FIRST we have to get funded.
All of the art that is done now is done for free by a couple of our friends and we realize it is not of the absolute best quality by any means but it's all we can afford. We would absolutely love to pay them for some of their efforts and also hire professionals! But in order to have professional work, we need professional level money.
We at CCC have not been playing Role Playing Games for a decade or anything like that. It is true that we do not know everything there is to know about Role Playing Games and never will get to that point, but that does not stop us from trying to make a great game. Sure it may use some elements from other games and sure it may not be completely innovative in every aspect, but that's not what our objective was. Our objective was to make a really fun zombie game with fun and simple rules supported by a massive amount of creative content. We've created that. All you have to do now is discover that for your self by backing us. Support us and we promise not to disappoint.
The Day 1 Newspaper will be a real 4-6 page newspaper that will include passages that may be in one of the last newspapers before the zombie apocalypse gets out of hand. This is just a fun way to put a little back ground information on the world of Revelation and a little more insight to what the zombie virus is and how it came about. It will include some descriptions of special locations, various stories, and some potential story hooks as well as many more things. The newspaper will also have unique photos not displayed in the regular or special edition book. The length of the newspaper may vary depending on a few factors but it will at least be 4 pages.
Everyone who backs the physical book if we reach $12,000 will receive a pair of NSG dog tags!
Cosmic Compass Creations is run by 2 crazy college kids who have a fascination with Table-Top Role Playing Games. We love zombies so we wanted to make a zombie RPG of our own that not only we would enjoy but others might also enjoy. We've worked hard on this game for the past 6 months or so and are continuing to work hard on it everyday. We have most of it written out, we have some art, and we have a clear plan for the future of Revelation. If Revelation is funded, we promise to continue to create the best Role Playing Games possible and expand the world of Revelation. We love the few fans that we have already on our Facebook page and would love to have new fans to make great games for.
