What is this project?
I am bringing the Cork Wine Bar experience to an historical building the heart of Stowe Village.
What is Cork Wine Bar?
I founded Cork Wine Bar & Market in Waterbury four years ago. My goal was to create a welcoming environment for friends to gather and learn about wine. I believe wine should be approachable, affordable and bring people together. Our mission extends to the wines we feature; family-owned, small production wines that are not only value driven but naturally made.
Why Stowe Village?
Stowe is a very special community-It's where I grew up, and now where I am raising my own family. Owning and restoring a historic building in the village is incredibly exciting. Some have said that Stowe Village today isn’t what it used to be. The last few decades have seen dramatic and, for the most part, positive changes to the Village. But it is widely acknowledged that there is substantial room for improvement, and I am excited to contribute to my home town. A vibrant village is the heart of a community.
Why do we need your help opening a second location?
Cork-Stowe will be opening in the historic building that was most recently Blue Moon Cafe. The building was constructed in 1871 which makes it almost 150 years old. This makes for great character, and incredibly expensive repairs and updates. We have the funding we need to get the doors open, but I am hoping to offset the overhead to make sure I can open at the level of quality that everyone has come to expect from Cork. I know how important the details are in a successful business and I am not willing to compromise my customer’s experience.
How will the budget be used?
We are hoping to raise $30,000. Owning and restoring an historical building comes with a lot of expensive, and not very sexy surprises-like crumbling foundations and really, really, rough plumbing. Aside from getting the building up to code, we are planning some killer interior construction that will modernize the building but retain and respect its history. With your help, I promise to bring a whole, new Cork experience to the Stowe Village. Residents and visitors alike will not be disappointed. It will be different from anything you have ever seen in Stowe, and it’s going to be fabulous.
How awesome is Cork Stowe going to be?
Great question. It's going to be as awesome as this picture of my daughter is cute.
Risks and challenges
I'm so proud of what I've created in Waterbury, and beyond excited to expand that offering in Stowe. My biggest risk is having to compromise on my vision for Cork Stowe due to the financial challenges of restoring and maintaining an historical building in Stowe Village.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
