UPDATE - A MESSAGE FROM CORBIN

Thanks for the support, but our work isn't finished!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are many paths that people take towards discovering their faith.  There is no set road or guide, but everyone has their own unique route towards their calling.  RUST: A JOURNEY OF FAITH follows writer/director Corbin Bernsen as he embarks on his own unique journey.

Corbin's Journey

About six years ago, Corbin travelled up to the town of Kipling, in Saskatchewan, Canada to film the movie Rust.  This film had become a passion project of his that he had been circling for a while but hadn't quite had the inspiration to get off the ground.  However, with the unfortunate passing of his father, Harry, he soon found himself searching for answers.  Rust then not only became a passion, but rather a necessary project - a story that he felt must be told.

Through a chance encounter with what is now known as the Red Paperclip, Corbin was introduced to the town of Kipling. The film's message of redemption struck a chord with the town and they instantly embraced and rallied around it. They even went on to raise money for the production.  It truly became a community effort.

So Corbin along with his production team arrived in town, but little did they know the hurdles that awaited them.  When he committed to making the film in Kipling, he agreed to cast people within the town - this meant he would be working with few trained actors and would have to teach them the craft.  On top of that, Kipling is a small, isolated town in the middle of Saskatchewan, Canada - so equipment and other resources would be tough to come by.  To make matters even more difficult, it was also the dead cold of winter - so temperatures were hovering well below freezing.

Needless to say, Corbin was set up in the most impossible of circumstances working few people with any experience, sparse equipment and freezing cold conditions.  The odds were certainly stacked against him, so it was up to Corbin to persevere.  He recognized that this whole project was his calling and was in answer to a need in response of his father's death.  Corbin also knew that it’s a possibility that if he doesn't follow this through, if he gives up and doesn’t go with journey as planned, he may not find himself equipped with the tools to deal with mortality.

Your Support

Before Corbin began the project, he had the foresight to have two cameras follow him each step along way.  They would document every his every move and provide audiences with an opportunity to experience his journey firsthand.  In the end, we ended up with hundreds of hours of remarkable footage and now we would like tell this story.  In order to do so, we need to compile the footage and edit it as well as put it through post production and make it presentable.  We will be turning this experience into a six part documentary series, with each episode running 22 minutes.  We felt that this was the most appropriate format in order for Corbin's journey to fully be explored and realized.  Your contributions will go directly into this process and the curation of this documentary series - Rust: A Journey of Faith

Our Team

Corbin Bernsen

Corbin Bernsen comes from an entertainment family. His mother, who recently passed away, had been on the long running soap The Young and Restless for 35 years. A graduate of UCLA where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Theater and a Master’s degree in Playwriting, he most recently starred as Henry Spencer on USA Network’s hit original series PSYCH.

He was first catapulted to stardom during the 1980s by the hit NBC TV series, L.A. Law. Twice, he was nominated for both an Emmy® Award and a Golden Globe Award® for his performance as Arnie Becker on the show that virtually created the ensemble drama as we know today. Along the way he hosted Saturday Night Live, and guest starred on Seinfeld and Star Trek to name a few notable television appearances.

In the feature film arena, he starred in the comedy Hello Again, followed by other critically acclaimed roles in Disorganized Crime, Wolfgang Peterson’s Shattered, The Great White Hype, and as the Cleveland Indians’ third baseman-turned- owner Roger Dorn in the extremely popular Major League series of films. Other film credits include Lay the Favorite with Bruce Willis and The Big Year with Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen Wilson. He also appeared with Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Recently, Bernsen has moved to the other side of the camera, directing the films Carpool Guy, Dead Air and Rust, which was distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment. With Rust, Bernsen shifted his focus to family friendly movies and formed Home Theater Films. 25 Hill, which he also wrote and directed, is the first title from his newly formed company and was distributed by EchoLight Studios in July 2012. This was followed by 3 Day Test (2012) and Beyond the Heavens (2013), also released by EchoLight Studios. Bernsen latest project, Christian Mingle, was just released in January 2015 by Capitol. Bernsen lives in Los Angeles with his wife of twenty-six years, actress Amanda Pays, and their four sons.

Chris Aronoff

Chris Aronoff is an award winning producer of over 10 feature films and founder of five successful companies including Wired.md, Mechnology, Antibody Films, Home Theater Films, and White Box Post.

After receiving a degree in film production, and producing hundreds of hours of industrial and commercial video content, Chris moved to Los Angeles to work at Paramount Studios as a VFX Supervisor on the TV series “Charmed”.

Inspired and independent, Chris started his 10-year career as a producer, producing 10 feature films (including stars Jesse Eisenberg, Kristin Chenoweth, Matthew Modine, Bruce Davison); co-founding Home Theater Films with Corbin Bernsen; and expanding his business pursuits to include a color/VFX studio for fellow filmmakers. Multi-talented, wearing many hats, Chris is known as a master problem-solver. With a genuine love for film producing, he oversees development, production, post, and distribution for all the features he produces, including recent theatrical release, Family Weekend.

When not working, Chris is an avid soccer player and cyclist, and enjoys hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains with his wife, producer Annmarie Aronoff.

James Greilick

James Greilick began working closely with actor/writer/director Corbin Bernsen in 2007 and now leads the development and operations for Home Theater Films. He has also been a co-producer for Home Theater Film’s Rust, 25 Hill, 3 Day Test and the most recent film Beyond the Heavens. Originally from Traverse City, MI, James attended Columbia College Chicago where he earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in Film and Video Production with an emphasis in producing.

Jordan Smith

Jordan Smith attended USC, concentrating in Philosophy and Cinematic Arts. Growing up in Silicon Valley, he was raised with a full and thorough understanding of the internet and its potential. However, he was always drawn to movies. While at USC, he worked at Pink Thunder, a production company under Angela Robinson (the L Word & Herbie Full Loaded.) It was through these experiences that he became involved in film as well as learned the importance of putting together a strain team to get jobs done. Jordan really began to understand the potential of combining entertainment with social networking when at Sony Pictures Television, working directly for the VP of Digital Marketing.

Risks and challenges

Unlike many other projects, we've cleared one of the most difficult hurdles, gathering all the footage. Over the production of the film Rust, we documented Corbin's entire journey, so everyone could see, first hand, all of the trials and tribulations, successes and failures that he experiences along the way. Our biggest obstacle is being able to take everything and now mold it into a story that everyone can enjoy and follow along. In order to do so, we will need to put the right team of editors and story tellers behind it. This includes, but is not limited to, mapping the project, hiring an editor, fixing the sound, adding music and color correcting the final project. We feel that with our resources and experience we can not only assemble the series, but make something that we can all be proud of - but all this is possible with the help of you, our community. As easy as the project may appear, this story and journey can easily lose it's path. So it is our responsibility to make sure that this opportunity is not squandered. We can properly complete this documentary series and together, we can make sure this project expose others to Corbin's story.
