Enter the Crucible! Xenoshyft: Immolation Available Now

Things are heating up around here, Commanders... Today we're unveiling a brand new Expansion to the Xenoshyft universe! Enter the fiery crucible of Xenoshyft: Immolation.

Xenoshyft: Immolation brings a whole new planet into the fight. Delve into a burning hot hellscape, where not only must players fight off the fearsome hordes of the alien threats, but also protect the base from the ravaging Inferno that surrounds them!

The denizens of this world have evolved to survive its blazing hot landscape, and Xenosathem mutation has only made them fiercer. These foes, dubbed the Cinderkin, have not only managed to survive on this world-they've thrived.

When facing these deadly adversaries, the players will not only have to worry about their raw strength and cunning, but the level of Immolation around the base as well- Enemies will gain unique and special abilities based on how hot the crucible has become. Should players allow it to become too high the very Base itself will begin to suffer damage as slag and fire run rampant!

Most enemies in Immolation have an Immolation Ability, this unique power will trigger on the conditions listed IF there is the listed level of Immolation in play. As seen above, the Inferno Legionnaire starts as a problematic, but manageable, enemy. Should there be 2 Immolation in play, however, he gains additional power... At 3, even more power...

This is similarly seen in the Inferno Drake, who has a nasty reveal ability that can rampage down a player's lane if Immolation is left unchecked!

So, How is Immolation Generated, and How Does It Work?

Glad you asked, Commander! The Immolation Trackers will manage all that. It begins the game at 3 Immolation and advances each time an enemy is killed- be warned, however, if it ever advances above 5 the base will begin to get burned for 1 point of damage for each Immolation generated!

Worse yet, some enemies will go out of their way to generate additional Immolation, usually giving the players a terrible choice on how they want to be hurt!

As you can see above, the Slag Bellower is going to generate additional Immolation when it kills Troops... That is, unless you're willing to burn that Troop Card and permanently remove it from the game! Meanwhile, the Slag Harvester will give you the choice of, on Reveal, generating some massive Immolation, or damaging the first Troop in your lane! Players will have to know when to quell the raging fire in order to survive till the end!

But all is not doom for our Troops! NorTec has developed special Emergency Supplies to aid their ground forces in this inhospitable world!

Unlike normal Items, these special supplies are available to the group as a whole at the start of the game, carrying one charge (and thus only one use each!). Players can pay to recharge these Supplies, and they refresh at the start of each Wave, but otherwise players will have to decide as a group just when these Supplies should be exhausted, knowing that they're gone until someone pays to restock!

The Experimental "Cinder-Slag" Grenade is your go-to Emergency Supply for dealing damage to that unseen threat... But it comes at a cost, generating additional Immolation on use. Meanwhile, the Hades' Boon Flame Suit will protect your Troops from damage- the higher the Immolation, the better the protection, so careful walking that line between safe and incinerated! Lastly the TXM-931 "Fire Killer" Agent is your (limited) supply of fire retardant- use it to quell the flames should things get too hot for you to handle!

Xenoshyft: Immolation comes with the following:

  • 52 Wave 1 Cinderkin Enemies
  • 52 Wave 2 Cinderkin Enemies
  • 52 Wave 3 Cinderkin Enemies
  • 3 Emergency Supply Item Cards
  • 1 Fire Tracker Card
  • 1 Plastic Fire Counter
  • 12 Kickstarter Exclusive Full-Art Boss Cards

This expansion requires Xenoshyft: Dreadmire or Xenoshyft: Onslaught to play.

If you're interested in purchasing this optional buy, please just click the "Manage Your Pledge" button on the Xenoshyft: Dreadmire Kickstarter page and in the pledge manager add the amount of the items you'd like to get. We'll sort out what your extra money is going towards after the campaign has closed and we've sent out our Pledge Manager.

Must say that the fire extuingisher art looks pretty dull :/ but the rest looks good enough for it to be a must

    2. Christopher - Incandescent on January 25, 2016

Yes Adam. It will be sent out with everything else in the Kickstarter a the same time.

Oh, they use up Immolation? That wasn't explained in the update at all. I was quite confused, but I can see where that makes a fair bit more sense.

Will this be released at the same time as the Dreadmire expansion?

    5. Justin Ang on January 20, 2016

Now this was a great surprised! I'm all fired up now.

    6. Eric on January 20, 2016

      Looks awesome!

Immolation is a smaller box. If you're familiar with our other game The Grizzled, that's around the size you're looking at.

This set is just additional enemies (+3 Emergency Supplies), hence why you will need one of the Core Boxes to play with it.

So this is just monsters? And the NorTech players come from one of the Big Boxes. Will Immolation be packaged in a smaller box?

I love the flame theme. XenoShyft seems to be falling into a very mature Pokemon motif: Bug-types, Fire-types, Dark-types, Ice-types (maybe)...

Nice!! This really got me excited.

Erik i would have to assume they replace the wave cards from the onslaught or dread mire base game which ever you are using with this expansion

@Jonbjorn, yes, you just add $25 to your pledge, you'll specify that it's for the expansion later.

    12. Tom D.B. on January 20, 2016

How many people will support this expansion? Looking forward to more 5 and 6 player games.

    13. CMON 31-time creator on January 20, 2016

When the Cinderkin enemies use their abilities, they use up that much Immolation.

    14. JonniMag on January 20, 2016

I´ve never added something to my pledge. Do I just add 25$ to my total and then later I will specify that it is for the expansions or might I be missing something on the "Manage your pledge" section ?

so, Immolation starts at 3, goes up when certain monsters are revealed, goes up when certain items are used, and (according to the update) even goes up when you kill a monster. A single item can also lower it. How is it not always at 5?!

    16. Erik on January 20, 2016

How does this get entered into the base game? Are the monsters just mixed into the regular decks?

      on January 20, 2016

Does the immolation expansion allow for more than four players at once? I'd really like to see an expansion that allowed for more players to play at once.

    18. Dustin Schwartz on January 20, 2016

Some of the Cinderkin enemy types definitely look like they've been inspired by the various iterations of "graboids" from the Tremors movies. Kudos!

    19. Jeremy Sudweeks on January 20, 2016

Yes, later there will be a pledge manager where you can specify what that $25 was for.

    20. Kat Pogatshnik on January 20, 2016

To get this, you add $25 to your pledge amount, right?

    21. Eric Arsenault on January 20, 2016

This game seems even harder than regular Xenoshyft, a bit worried about only 3 specific items to help you here, even if you can recharge them...

    22. Kyle Schleich
      on January 20, 2016

well i feel like this came from out of nowhere, but i like the idea quite a lot!

    23. Jeremy Sudweeks on January 20, 2016

      @Tomasz Rolnik

It explains it in the youtube trailer. We get the 12 bosses that are included in the expansion with full art versions. If we get the expansion any other way, it will be the same 12 bosses, but the cards will not be full art

Please give us another one with ice and snow!

    25. CMON 31-time creator on January 20, 2016

Immolation comes with 12 Boss Monsters, 4 per Wave. If you order it through the Kickstarter you're getting 12 additional cards featuring those Bosses in Full-Art Form.

    26. Thomas Tannhäuser on January 20, 2016

Not sure if I understand that "12 full art boss cards". Does it mean that KS backers get 12 bosses that are not included in retail version of the game or does it mean that they get an additional 12 cards that are somehow already included in this expansion?

    27. Jeremy Sudweeks on January 20, 2016

Is there any chance for a monster pack to go with this?

    28. CMON 31-time creator on January 20, 2016

The Cinderkin creatures will always use the highest available Immolation Ability they can, but they will not use multiples, no. There is a handy Rules card you'll get as well to explain that :)

      on January 20, 2016

This makes me very excited. I'm more interested in these kind of beasts then the insectoid creatures we've seen so far.

Quick question on Immolation effects, do they stack? For example if we were at 4 immolation does that mean the Inferno Drake is dealing his 1 additional damage for Immolation 3 as well as the 2 additional damage for Immolation 4?
