A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
COOLEO is the World's first double layer bottle that not only keeps its contents chilled in a natural and sustainable way, but is also a beautiful jewel in the crown of any table setting.
Relax and enjoy your wine: You don’t need the fuss of ice buckets or repeat trips to the fridge – what better way to serve wine without disruption?
It is designed and engineered in Germany, it’s hand crafted from strong, thin, high-tech Borosilicate glass, which has outstanding clarity and scratch-resistant durability. The crisp, clean lines of crystal-clear Borosilicate glass presents the wine’s true colour, and even though it’s light in weight.
COOLEO is handmade by artisan glassblowers, the bottle’s elegant, multi-layered curves not only provide winemakers with the perfect vessel for their wine, but it also gives artists a unique place to showcase their art on both the inner or outer layers of the bottle.
The elegant design of the bottle will make it an experience to remember, it kicks off conversations, inspires ideas. Because the refreshing wine is there for you all the time, it leaves you relaxed and at peace of mind.
Our intention is been to create a bottle that is beautiful to behold, shows the wine at it’s best and keeps it’s chilled in a natural, clean and sustainable way. See it, feel it and touch it with your own hands. Experience the difference, the silky touch, the lightweight and the crystal clear surfaces.
We all love a story - and when it comes to the making of the world’s first vacuum-filled bottle, there is an interesting story to tell.
One day I was having dinner with friends and it stuck me how frustrating it was to keep getting up to put the wine back in the fridge.
It seemed such a waste of effort, energy and my time, which could have been better spent at the table.
Sure there are ice buckets: but this does nothing to show off the wine, and in the end is a waste of energy and materials and resources too.
So I thought there must be an elegant solution to these problems.
Why can’t we have a bottle that is beautiful to behold, shows the wine at it’s best and keeps it’s chilled in a natural, clean and sustainable way?
And so the journey began.
As our lives become increasingly high-tech and digital, it has been an amazing experience to pursue something so beautiful and functional. In a way we are trying to re-invent the bottle. What a great challenge and what an opportunity it has proved to be.
THE FUSION OF ART AND TECHNOLOGY
After years of extensive research, we worked with glassblowers, craft peoples, winemakers, engineers, technicians and designers, all bringing their wealth of skills and knowledge to the process.
For me I have found it inspiring to get involved with these people and their art. Together we researched and chose the materials, re-discovered traditional methods. The amazing part of the process for me was taking the raw materials and watching them create something that never existed.
It takes time to create the double-layered bottle by hand – but it’s worth it. Perfecting the structure and shape takes time, but the results is clearly show that the effort was worth it.
Both elegant and practical, the crystal clear Borosilicate glass showcases the distinctive colours of the wines.
Borosilicate glass, sometimes known as Jenaer Glass or Borosil, forms both the inner and outer layer. High quality borosilicate glass is not only smooth to touch but crystal clear, ultra lightweight, durable, microwave and dishwasher-safe and easy to clean.
THE SCIENCE AND THE PROCESS
The glass Vinolok stopper is designed to fit in the overall style. It makes a great alternative to the cork, because it can be repeatedly opened by one hand. It keeps the contents fresh without affecting the aroma or flavor.
Borosilicate glass was first created by Friedrich Schott, a German chemist and glass maker born in 1851. Borosilicate is formed when boron oxide is added to soda-lime glass. It is chemical and heat resistant, taste neutral, has a high light transmission coefficient and a high softening point, making it the ideal material to sculpture the Cooleo bottle. During the production the glass is melted up to a temperature of approximately 850°C.
The bottle’s unique and highly effective double layer glass includes a vacuum insulation that keeps cold drinks cold and hot drinks warm for much longer.
It has been designed for automated filling in wineries, as well as every day use. The stem at the bottom, looks like a wine glass but it plays a clever and important role is bringing stability to the structure, so it is protected against vibrations during transportation.
So there you have it.
Consider the Cooleo bottle for dinner or summer parties, a wedding reception, corporate gatherings or other special occasions. The elegant design of the bottle will make it an experience to remember, it kicks off conversations, inspires ideas. Because the refreshing wine is there for you all the time, it leaves you relaxed and at peace of mind.
No Ice, no Drip, Never.

When manufacturing the COOLEO bottle great skill is required to both form the elegant shape of the inner and outer, as well as creating a stable and durable connection between the top and bottom parts. Only very experienced glass blower artisan can master the skill and perfection that is needed to control the temperature and fluidity of the glass to connect and shape the COOLEO bottle. Many hundreds of samples have been produced before the final perfect COOLEO shape could be produced.
The handling of the bottle during the transportation, flushing and wine filling requires that the bottle can withstand both high vertical and horizontal pressures. The final sealing with the glass closure puts the bottle under high pressure.
Over the last three years we have worked both with German, Asian and Indian artisan glass maker who have a long tradition in complex and skillful glass product development. We have selected the manufactures who can offer both, the quality and the quantity that is required.
Our manufacturing partner in China after the first 3000 bottles were delivered successfully to COOLEO
We are consulting with leading automation companies who advise on quality process control and final checking of production tolerances.
The complete manufacturing process for double layered bottles is innovative and has yet not been successfully been mastered. We have selected the most experienced and quality suppliers and manufactures for this project. Environmental issues are also considered during the development and manufacturing process. Waste materials are being recycled and are returned into the material cycle. Glass blower and workers conditions and benefits are important to us.
The material used for the COOLEO bottle is high quality, taste neutral and scratch resistant glass. It is durable and offers a crystal clear and highly transparent appearance.
The glass can be colored in various shades and colors that enable the bottles to be individualised.
The inner bottle is customised with screen printing the name and logo of the customers. These are applied during the manufacturing and assembly process. The printing is on the outside layer of the inside container and then protected by the outside container, so it is scratch and tamper proof and will last as long as the life of the bottle.
We have developed a sophisticated quality control and measuring system to ensure consistent and high quality production. Every tolerance is measured before proceeding to the assembly stage. Workers self-check each part tolerances before continuing with the next process step.
To complete the development of the highly demanding and complex process we require your support.
BACK COOLEO AND BECOME PART OF OUR UNIQUE STORY
When the campaign is completed successfully, we will be in constant communication with you to update you on the projects progress. With your support, we will realise our dream to bring the COOLEO project to life and you will become one of the first people to enjoy COOLEO with us in 2019.
To make COOLEO viable and sustainable, we have so far invested private family capital and resources in a fix figure amount. We would kindly as for your support to achieve our target. The diagram below shows you how your money will be allocated.
Approximately a third of funds will be spend on the development of the production tools to improve the quality and accuracy during production. One quarter of funds are spend on labor, glass, electricity and gas to manufacture the COOLEO bottles. Any additional support will be used to speed up development, perfect quality control and increase production capacity.
We are a growing family business and we would want to remain independent from large corporates. This is important to maintain our unique creative processes and control the high quality we aspire to.

The result of this development and prototype testing was a durable and timeless design, the original COOLEO. This product innovation was introduced to market with a limited edition of rosé and white wines by the monastery and winery Wasem, a small family run business in Ingelheim, Germany. The Riesling and Pinot Rosé wine in COOLEO bottles are sold through the Wasem on site store as well as through regional specialist wine stores.
We have successfully subscribed to the German KMU (Small business) patent program, which provided part funding for patent applications. We have applied for an international PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) patent and a number of design patents. The process was advised by legal advisors Tergau & Walkenhorst who are also advising on strategic options and the growth plan.

STATUS OF OUR BUSINESS
The business concept has been developed since 2014, and we used private family capital to design, patent, develop, prototype, further optimise and manufacture the pilots of the COOLEO bottles. In 2015 we engaged the renowned design Studio Oliver Conrad, who further developed the first commercial Design of COOLEO. This model was tested and further developed into a workable prototype. A first series of Riesling and Pinot Noir was launched in 2017, with an award winning winery, which has been run by the family Wasem since 1726. We are now in the process to machine manufacture the bottles.

During pre-production, our prototypes as well as the first series of over 3000 bottles were tested by our engineering and manufacturing experts and further optimised to provide better stability during the filling and handling process. The first limited series of 3000 bottles was a great success and were marketed by our German winery.
We are now confident that our bottles are suitable for large volume handling and production.
LARGE VOLUME PRODUCTION:
Manufacturing and distributing a product in large volumes is challenging. We are working with experienced glass manufacturing companies that have the longstanding track record and expertise to develop the processes, controls and machines that are needed to deliver the quality and quantity that are required. We are confident, that we have lined up the necessary expertise and resources to deliver on the target date. We have been manufacturing over 3000 bottles with Asian and Indian specialist manufacturer and this was a great success.
Customers and clients loved the bottle and we secured many clients who have expressed interest to order large quantities for their wineyards. Large volume production of the COOLEO bottles is not an easy undertaking to develop, as the bottles are double layered. With the assistance of our German and Swiss engineering and glass experts we are confident, that we will design the manufacturing units that can deliver the quality and the volume our supporters require.
TIME AND QUALITY
We are confident that the timetable described is realistic and allows us to develop and manufacture the products by the deadline of 2019.
MARKETING AND DISTRIBUTION
We are in contact and discussion with a number of leading retail and distribution companies and other flagship wine estates with global distribution channels that would enable us to distribute our bottles through existing supply chain channels and without the need to invest in own stores, logistics or warehouses. We look forward to working with our supporters to grow our company and brand.
