Action News is a fast-paced social card game that transforms your game group into a television news team competing against the clock, and each other, to tell the best news story.
As a reporter, you'll have limited time to collect story parts, including quotes, sources, tag lines, and sign-offs. You’ll combine these pieces with a news event to build your story. No improvisation or trivia knowledge required!
Think of it as rhetorical Tetris; or an anthropomorphic set of refrigerator magnet poetry after it went to college and got a journalism degree.
The story you create can be simple...
Or more complex...
The game was created by Justin Robert Young and John Teasdale and designed by Meg Paradise and Faun Chapin of Guts & Glory.
If you're into card games, the news, world history, or Ron Burgundy, please consider backing our project. The more backers we get, the more stuff we can pack into the box, so help us make this game the best it can be.
Our team assembled in 2015 with a passion to make a game about political debate. That game was The Contender; its success left us with a honest-to-goodness game company, and a high bar for our next project.
We went through several ideas, including a palace intrigue deduction game, an audio only adventure game, and a game where competing junkyard owners fight it out with robots made of trash (the latter we even play-tested at GenCon 2016). They might have turned out fine, but none were the natural successor to The Contender.
With Action News, we've turned up the volume on our brand of conversational card games. Where The Contender rewards comedic timing and attention to social cues, Action News presents a puzzle you have to solve, and quickly. It's the same puzzle that news stations around the world work on every day. How do you take a real news story, and make people pay attention?
Risks and challenges
There are no risks in this campaign and very few challenges. The game is complete and we have received advanced demo copies. We are printing the game through a high quality manufacturer that we've worked with in the past and just need to know how many copies to produce. Our shipping plan is also set up.
In addition, we have kept the reward tiers as simple as possible to streamline fulfillment and get you playing the game as quickly as possible.
