Prepare for a high-flying steampunk adventure in this all-new Sci-Fi / Fantasy series about a pair of talented inventors called, the TINKERS. Set in an alternate history timeline that picks up in the late nineteenth century, the world of the Tinkers is one of smog, acid rain, fog, steam, over-population, bland food, booming economic growth, scientific achievement and unbridled capitalism. The story follows the lives of the Tinkers, a father/daughter engineering duo, who have achieved a level of notoriety as inventors in their native San Francisco of the Northwest American territory. When a wealthy and eccentric expatriate, now residing in British controlled Hong Kong, named Lady Cushing engages their services to build a device from the incomplete plans left behind by her late father, also an inventor and gentleman explorer, they are thrust headlong into a world of intrigue, lies, deceit, greed, and eminent danger in which the balance of worldly power rests unaware, alternately in both the calloused hands of Sho Tinker and the gloved hands of Lady Cushing.
1st Season Overview
The wealthy and eccentric adventure-seeker, Lady Cushing, attempts to complete the life’s work of her late father and older brothers, with the help of a well-known father and daughter team of inventors called, the Tinkers. This innovation however threatens the status quo and for that there are repercussions.
The corrupt energy utilities of Western America, most notably the Ministry of Water & Power and the Gasworks, have each dispatched their agents in an effort to thwart the Tinkers and Lady Cushing. Her well-equipped entourage, lead by the courageous Captain Alexandra Victoria Brian Pelham, intervenes but Lord Blackwelder has a plan to maintain his dictatorship over the American nation’s valuable and extensive power resources. With an energy war on the verge of erupting, an additional obstacle surfaces, provided courtesy of the notorious masked criminal, Jawbreaker, who runs interference at all parties, by playing both sides in this emerging battle for power and the wealth that typically accompanies it.
Now when you say Web Series…
The Web Series is planned to consist of 14 first-season ‘Webisodes’.
TINKER aims to expand the boundaries of Steampunk science fiction by further transforming it from what many know as just an aesthetic to evolving it into a multi-ethnic, culture- exploring, collection of stories that does for Steampunk what Star Trek did for science fiction back in the sixties.
This includes: mature themes, exotic locations, sub-plots, drama and action, always making the effort to keep true to the 'punk' in Steampunk by going outside currently established 'rules' of the genre, and fusing the diverse talents of several industries into a new kind of steam-powered animal. Even if you don't actively follow the subculture of Steampunk, there is still something here for you.
TINKER will feature stylish Victorian era-inspired wardrobe, lavish sets (both practical and digital), custom props, unusual locations and just enough technology to make Jules Verne and H.G. Wells proud.
STEAMPUNK PARTNERS plans to distribute the show initially on the Web. The episodes would be available on both the TINKER Web site: www.TinkerSteampunkSeries.com as well as on Vimeo. Regardless of the different outlets that will eventually carry the episodes, the individual, first-run programs would always be free to view on the Web site. Collections of episodes or seasons would be available on Blu-Ray for purchase at a later date.
If funded when would the Pilot launch?
Pre-production for the Web Series is currently under development by CONTAINMENT FIELD at their North Hollywood, CA studio, under the instruction of STEAMPUNK PARTNERS, the licensee of the original intellectual property. Principal digital cinematography for the Pilot if funded would commence in February 2014 and would go live March 2014.

We will release a soundtrack of musicians featured in the Tinker pilot and planned 1st Season episodes. The music will be as diverse as the Tinker's travels taking the audience on journey's of beauty, adventure, classical, the darkness of a corrupt system, and of course just plain fun! As this Kickstarter is for the Pilot. The remaining music of TINKER and the soundtrack will be funded by a PledgeMusic campaign following our Kickstarter campaign. A double disk featuring the original score on disk 1 and bands tracks on disk 2. Our bands are steampunk themed, or steampunk fans themselves that want you to hear their vision of our steampunk inspired world.
Featured in our Kickstarter fundraising videos are:
3 Piece from Southern California known for their sonically massive choruses, and constrained electronic verses. Inspired mainly by film rather than music.
Birdeatsbaby Orchestral rock quartet from Brighton/London, UK. Birdeatsbaby are far from your average rock band. Incorporating a varied collection of influences, the band combine piano-lead power-pop with orchestral and melodic rock, resulting in something that sounds hauntingly original and delicate.
Other Artist's on board Tinker are:
Some of the wardrobe, jewelry & accessories in TINKER will be by: Aneroc (Corena Gibson), Generations of Art, The Blonde Swan, Steampunk Obscura, Nonconformity, Dr. Brassy Steamington, Kelly's Heroes, Wonderland Corsets, Silver Leaf Costumes, and Hades Footwear.
Where will your hard earned money be going, and why do we need your support?
Some of you might be thinking we have talent involved that has worked on big movies why do we need your money, we must be rich right? While we wish we were rich, we aren't. Times are tough for creatives, and those big names don't come free, no matter how much they love our project.
Our minimum project goal of $10,000.00 will cover: Pre-production, Production, Sound, Musical Score, Initial Original Music for the Soundtrack, Wardrobe, Props, Sets, and all other essentials to create our Pilot. Without your support TINKER will develop at a crawl.
If we raise funds beyond our goal, then the next expense is the all important Marketing. After that will come more production value on the pilot, then the next priority will be the episodes planned for the first season, and even more production value by bolstering the current budget in all areas, all only possible with your support!
Bare minimum once we have our high quality Pilot other opportunities to sustain, and continue the series will be available to us. Aside from the soundtrack, it is our preference to not rely on crowdfunding after this initial kick start. We will try our best to utilize alternatives, or in the least greatly reduce the funding we need from future crowdfunding until the series develops a strong following.
We support the http://kickingitforward.org/ movement!

Risks and challenges
There are always challenges to producing a series, no matter how well funded or experienced you are, however we have a strong team with many years of experience, who know their various crafts quite well. Our diverse cast members are not only actively involved in the world of film and science fiction, but in the worlds of Music, all things Geek and of course, all things Steampunk! TINKER's track is well laid, we just need funding to get this train rolling!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Yes, it is!
Should you want more steamy goodness simply add the reward pledges together and enter/update the total when you contribute. Followed by sending us a message of which reward tiers you want, and we'll make a note of it!
Like wise, if you want to purchase more rewards in the future, send us a message after you've entered your new pledge and we'll make a note.
Q. What are the assigned characters and their background?
A. The characters will be custom-made to take advantage of the age, appearance and gender of those who have chosen that particular incentive. This is to insure that we don't overextend anyone based on their ability or availability as well as leaving our options open for story-telling devices.
Q. Who chooses the characters for the pledge backer?
A. The character options will be the result of the personal preferences/comfort level of the backer and the input of the writer/creator/show runner, Michael Taglianetti. The backer will be involved and will have direct input, including in the naming of the character.
Q. How does the character support the story?
A. Michael Taglianetti, the writer/creator/show runner guarantees that any walk-on role that is assumed by one of the backers will support the story and move the plot along. In what way that is executed is dependent upon the backer and what type of character they will eventually play and that decision can't be made until the backer and Michael Taglianetti have at least a conference call between them.
Q. What is the situation the character is in?
A. It depends if the character that the backer plays is a hero or villain. Again, see above answer.
Q. What happens to the character?
A. The character will likely have a short story arc and will be written out in the most dramatic way possible.
Q. What is the character's speaking line?
A. Again, impossible to determine without knowing who the backer/actor is. Basically, you have to trust that we will get it right and that you will be satisfied. Also, you have to understand that without knowing anything about the backer (male or female; old or young; attractive or homely; short or tall; previous acting experience or none at all, etc.) that it is impossible to say that this character will be this and do that.
‘TINKER’ is the surname of two of the main characters, the father/daughter duo of world famous
inventors: Sho and Kimi Tinker. They are Tinkers by name and tinkers by trade.
‘TINKER’ is about the numerous, late nineteenth century exploits of those
well-to-do inventors, Sho and Kimi Tinker and their wealthy benefactor, Lady Cushing.
‘Steampunk’ can be summed-up in two words: Victorian Futurism.
In a few more words: Steampunk is science fiction as authors like Jules Verne and H.G.
Wells would have envisioned the genre through the lens of the 19th century.
Or, in even more words: Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction and it is often framed
from the perspective of either alternate history or a future, which emulates the culture, and
scientific achievements of the late 19th century. Steampunk can also be described as the type
of subject matter that authors Jules Verne and H.G. Wells wrote about.
K.W. Jeter, the science fiction author who coined the term Steampunk in April 1987, in a
letter to an editor at Locus Magazine, used the term to describe the retrotechnology/
alternate history-themed stories that he was working on at the time along with
friends, James P. Blaylock and Tim Powers. Here is the content of that letter (as seen on The
Dear Locus: Enclosed is a copy of my 1979 novel Morlock Night; I'd appreciate your
being so good as to route it to Faren Miller, as it's a prime piece of evidence in the
great debate as to who in "the Powers/Blaylock/Jeter fantasy triumvirate" was writing
in the "gonzo-historical manner" first. Though of course, I did find her review in the
March Locus to be quite flattering. Personally, I think Victorian fantasies are going to
be the next big thing, as long as we can come up with a fitting collective for Powers,
Blaylock and myself. Something based on the appropriate technology of that era; like
"steampunks," perhaps.... --K.W. Jeter
Presently, STEAMPUNK PARTNERS in association with HARBINGER MEDIA GROUP and
CONTAINMENT FIELD have engaged a casting director and are approaching agents for
several actors in whom we have interest. Some of these actors have appeared in television
shows and movies with a long history and rabid fan following.
‘What If The Future Came Early?’ – or – ‘Tinker by name, tinker by nature.’
Don’t think for a minute that we wouldn't like that! TINKER would make an excellent edition
to the SyFy Channel line-up or HBO, Cinemax, Showtime or Starz. Anything is possible; it’s all about whom you know. TINKER is an intellectual property (IP) that is being developed to
have many different iterations, beginning with a Web Series and moving beyond that if
possible. If all goes as planned there will be other branches of the ‘TINKER IP Tree.’ For
now, it’s the Internet first and that’s where our efforts are concentrated.
It is our ultimate goal to have TINKER grow to franchise status, eventually becoming a comic
book, TV series, feature length movie, console video game, online video game, hand-held
video game and several major retail ancillary products, from clothing to jewelry and more.
However, in entertainment, as in life, things don’t always go as planned. The first step is to
make the best Web Series we can with the budget we have raised.
Our ability to create and deliver meaningful characters that the audience will actually care
about and root for is why this franchise will ultimately take off. From the sexy and
provocative Guild Girls, to the mysterious agents, to the nefarious villains all the way to our
personable heroes. The people that populate the world of TINKER are its driving force.
There isn't anything like TINKER out there (not so far, anyway). Steampunk themed Web
series are just starting to emerge on the Internet, largely due, in part, from successful crowd
funding campaigns. But none of these emerging shows, for better or worse, are anything like
More specifically, there are two things very unique about TINKER, one on-screen and one
off-screen: The most unique aspect of TINKER on-screen is its character development and
how the characters interact with each other through the course of their various story arcs.
They are not ‘usual’ when compared to the standard television series character. The offscreen
uniqueness of TINKER is that is has been created and developed by people who are
not part of the ‘studio system’ and therefore are not hindered by the rules of “Hollywood”
or trying to make a homogenized show trying to appeal to everyone. TINKER is made by
people trying to make a show that they, themselves would watch.
STEAMPUNK PARTNERS will distribute the show initially on the Web. The episodes will be
available on both the TINKER Web site: www.TinkerSteampunkSeries.com as well as
on Vimeo at: Vimeo.com/TinkerWebSeries. There are other possible resources for
distribution that are being negotiated, some of which are connected to corporate sponsors.
Regardless of the different outlets that will eventually carry the episodes, the individual, first run
programs will always be free to view on the Web site. Collections of episodes or
seasons will be available on Blu-Ray for purchase at a later date.
What is next for TINKER? The pilot is ‘next’ because it hasn't been completed and released
yet. After that, in order of hope and expectation, are: the first season; then hopefully, with a
large enough audience, a transition to a cable series and comic book (simultaneously); then
a feature film will follow; and ultimately a console video game.
We are an independant production, keeping true to our vision without a big studios backing, and far from wealthy (we are artists). To create a quality series it takes a lot of money to ensure everyone is paid their worth. Let's not forget that an Oscar winning visual effects company recently filed for bankruptcy. That should be a good indication that those in the industry are not wealthy, but work for passion like any other artist.
The creative team is our current core team that has been developing the series up to this point. We'll be hiring a full crew at the completion of this Kickstarter.
