About this project
The Connection Art Project is a multi-media culmination of three Chicago artists’ adventure to the Philippines. The event will feature a 20-minute documentary by dance documentarian Jaycee Gossett (former host of The Travel Channel’s Dance the World),and artwork by photojournalist Maggie Rife Ponce and fusion collage by artist Agustina Diez Sierra.
Traveling to the Philippines as a team in early 2013, they examined Filipino culture through dance, photography, and cultural immersion--from the overflowing streets of modern Manila to the village dinner tables of the tattooed women of the nearly extinct Kalinga Tribe.Connection brings the images and objects they collected to life through film, photos, three-dimensional collage work, and dance. Experience for yourself just how connected we all are despite geographical chasms. Our energy orbits this Earth, connecting us even when we feel alone.
Risks and challenges
There are many challenges we have already been faced with creating the Connection Art Project, and many more to come. In order to pull off this show, we have traveled across the world, navigated cultural divides, produced a 20-minute documentary, and searched hand-over-foot to find an ideal space to host the show, all on budget.
Now, with the space secured and the documentary finished, we are still faced with setting up an amazing show in what is technically a construction zone. We need strong bodies to move ladders, dry wall, and other machinery from the space were using. We need to hire security, staff, and purchase provisions.
We also have the challenge of getting the word out. With full time jobs, we're working long hours after our "day jobs" are finish to complete this passion project. We've designed marketing material and a website, now we're sharing everything via newsletters, press releases, and person-to-person meetings. We wish to attract an interested audience to fill the space, connecting with the project, and in so doing, advancing our mission of connecting people with distance cultures.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
