A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
The Vexel Smart Cooler (Patent Pending) is a sleek, modern, and intelligent koozie that connects to your smartphone. Once paired, it can automatically track your drinking and even help you make smarter and safer choices when you drink. And of course the double-walled design helps keep your beer ice cold for hours. And those are just some of the features. Check out our campaign and see for yourself why the Vexel Smart Cooler is a must have accessory at your next tailgate, pool party, BBQ, concert, or other drinking event.
TRACKS BEER INTAKE
The Vexel Smart Cooler automatically tracks your Drink Count and Drink History, and can also estimate your BAC %. Drink information is updated in real-time and displayed in the Vexel App.
How does it work?
In order to track your drinking, the Vexel Cooler uses an Infrared Sensor which can detect when a can or bottle has been removed. This data is then used to provide you with your current drink count along with drink history.
In order to estimate your BAC %, the Vexel Cooler uses the drink count collected by the Infrared Sensor along with additional user data which includes your weight, age, and gender (set within the App).
SENDS SMART ALERTS
Drinking can often times lead to poor decisions. In order to make smarter, safer, & healthier choices, we have developed 'Smart Alerts' which are designed to help you avoid hangovers, maintain health goals, or whatever you struggle with after a few drinks.
Setting a moderate BAC percent or beer limit are great ways to maintain health goals or even prevent you from making regrettable choices (you know which ones). Having the Vexel Cooler alert you when you get close or go over these limits can help keep you in line.
Staying hydrated is key to preventing hangovers, however, we can often forget about water once we start boozing. With the Vexel Cooler, set an alert that triggers after you finish a certain number of beers (every 2,3,etc) and the LED lights will flash blue letting you know its time to grab some water.
USE TO FIND YOUR BEER
Never misplace your beer again! Use the map to locate your drink or even ring your Vexel Cooler using your smartphone.
USE TO FIND YOUR SMARTPHONE
Misplace your phone at a party or event? Not a problem, use your Vexel Cooler to ring it, even if it is set on silent.
LED HALO LIGHTS
LED Lights with over 16 MILLION colors to select from. Perfect for showing your team colors, identifying your beer, and even illuminating an area. Change between different modes including pulse, flash, and solid color.
Power: The base of the Vexel houses the circuit board as well as lithium-Ion battery which is charged via micro-usb. The battery lasts approximately 40 hours from a single charge based on LED lights at full brightness. Without the LED lights in use, the battery will last approximately 200 hours. If no activity is detected the Vexel Cooler will enter power-save mode (LED lights turn off but Bluetooth remains enabled).
Details: The Vexel Cooler will be made using a Tritan Plastic which is BPA free for the lid and the base as well as the interior which surrounds the can/bottle. The interior section will be double-walled vacuum insulated which will then be surrounded by a third layer to be made out of 18/8 Stainless Steel.
The smartphone app works with both Android and iOS and is designed to be simple, clean, and user-friendly. Edit LED color and mode within the 'Lights' tab. The' Stats' tab displays all of your key data including average consumption time, number of beers consumed, BAC, and history. The third tab is the "Find" tab which you can use to find and alert your Vexel Cooler.
Our team has already developed a functioning circuit board and are currently in the process of programming and testing the peripheral functions. The infrared sensor is housed on its own circuit board (small board below) which is then positioned directly below the can/bottle. Additional technical information can be provided upon request.

Question: Is the entire Vexel (minus base and lid) made from Stainless Steel? Answer: No. Although that was our original intent, we have been unable to locate a company capable of creating the Vexel using double-walled stainless steel (due to the unique design). Instead we plan on making the inside using Tritan (BPA-Free) Plastic which will be double-walled and vacuum insulated. The outside will then be made out of a single layer of 18/8 Stainless Steel. We expect It will look just like how it is pictured throughout our campaign.
Question: Can you add additional drink data in the App? Answer: The features described in our campaign represent those we are trying to complete for the targeted fulfilment date and this ability is not on our timeline. However, we plan on adding additional capabilities to the App based on user feedback, demand, etc. and one of them being the ability to add additional drinks you may have consumed not using the Vexel Cooler (shots, shotgun/beer bong, etc).
Question: Why is there an Accelerometer/Gyroscope on the board? Answer: In future updates, we plan on developing additional features which will require the use of the Accelerometer/Gyroscope. One of those would be to use to help provide a more accurate reading of your consumption thus provide more accurate BAC %.
Question: How accurate is the BAC % reading? Answer: There are many additional factors that impact a persons BAC % including what they ate, their history with drinking and how they metabolize it etc. However, age and weight are large factors (and to lesser extent gender) so we expect to have it within a reasonable range. Again, the BAC % is an estimate and we are in know way suggesting that it should be used as a basis for deciding whether you are below a legal limit for driving purposes.
Question: Does the BAC % consider the Alcohol By Volume Percent (ABV %) of the drink and can that be adjusted within the app? Answer: Yes the ABV % is considered however for the target fulfillment date we plan on using a default number of 5%. We will then add the ability to adjust in future updates based on feedback and demand.
Question: Is it waterproof? Answer: We have designed the bottom to be self-contained and ideally waterproof, however, we need to perform some additional adjustments to determine whether we can certify it as waterproof.
Question: What kind of warranty comes with it? Answer: There will be a one-year warranty on all electronics components and two-year warranty on the other parts.
Have a question? Feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will get back to you as soon as we can. In the mean time, enjoy a couple drinks and take the rest of the day for yourself.
Risks and challenges
Our team has experience with app development, circuit board design and manufacturing, and even have experience with designing and sourcing products for prior crowdsourcing campaigns. We have been working closely with a highly reputable stainless steel manufacturer who have shown they are capable of producing the Vexel Cooler, and at the high quality standards we adhere to.
There are always additional risk and challenges that are outside of our control, however, we plan on keeping backers informed through frequent updates and will let you know if any unforeseen events impact delivery dates.
