Mad Scientist - A Chemistry Inspired Barware Collection
Out of the lab and into your life, the Mad Scientist chemistry inspired barware collection is the perfect solution for any mixture!

A great design is in the details. Every single human on this earth consumes liquids. It's our bet that every single human has spilled a liquid on themselves while consuming it. We took a close look at the way people drink their beverages and how they interact with their glassware in public and private settings. Transferring a liquid from one container to another is the fundamental process that barware must perform. Surely something exists that already performs this function perfectly?
LAB GLASS! Chemistry glass is specifically designed to transfer liquids between containers without losing a drop. Spouts and rounded rims allow the liquids to freely flow without dripping down the sides of the containers. Rounded rims also offer a smooth transition of the beverage from the container to a drinker's mouth. The Erlenmeyer flask's unique shape is perfect for storing and serving liquids and it's essentially spillproof. Chemistry glassware is made from Borosilicate glass which is the same as Corning's Pyrex. This material is not susceptible to thermal expansion and is resistant to high temperatures, making it the perfect application for hot and cold liquids. It also boasts extreme durability compared to regular glassware and if it were to break, it would break into larger pieces rather than shattering. All of these features make chemistry lab glass a perfect replacement for traditional glassware in the home and in a restaurant or bar.
A support base was designed for each of the containers to offer a stunning display of your beverage or condiment. The base keeps the glassware safely in place and acts as a tray for easy transportation. Each of these bases is crafted from select Maple hardwoods. More information on this process can be found in the manufacturing section in the campaign.
Modular and minimal. Table and counter space is prime real estate and is usually not abundant. Keeping the design as minimal and simple as possible was an absolute priority. Basic geometric shapes including squares, rectangles, and circles were used to create the fit and form of the bases. A single dimensional value was propagated throughout the design to allow for modularity. This allows all of the items in the collection to be neatly arranged for an elegant presentation. Mix and match to create your perfect setup.
Drinks and more. Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Cocktails, Beer, Wine, Water, the list goes on. The Mad Scientist collection was designed with beverage consumption in mind but has many other uses. Oil & Vinegar, Ketchup & Mustard, Hot Sauce & ranch, and many other condiment pairs work well with the Erlenemyer Duo set. The test tube set can be used for dressings, spices, and food and beverage items that typically come in small quantities. SHOTS!
The dough. In order to make this project a reality and get it in the hands of you awesome folks, we are seeking funding of $10,000. This will allow us to purchase raw materials at bulk pricing and make it possible to sell this product at a reasonable price. We recently purchased our CNC machine and hope to use this project to help pay off a portion of our loan. We also plan on expanding our shop capabilities as well as our company, and this project is aimed to assist in both of those areas. Funding is a difficult task for any startup, but with your help, this idea can come to life.
Contribute and be rewarded!
Made in Harrisburg, PA. Each of the wood bases will be made in our workshop using our CNC router. Each plank is cut to size, then the pocket is routed, and finally it is finished with a natural oil. CNC woodworking is one of our core competencies at Conceptio and we have the necessary experience to successfully execute on this product.
Get me the goods already! Our supply base is completely setup for the raw lumber, lab glassware, corks, and packaging materials. We plan to produce the wood bases in house and pack the items into the necessary kits and ship. We've learned a ton from our past Kickstarter projects and have plans in place to respond to the variable order volumes. Whether a few hundred or a few thousand orders, we're ready for production and delivery. If the project is a huge success and volumes reach levels beyond our capacity, we have a third party fulfillment company lined up to help us out. Worldwide shipping available!
At the end of the campaign, you will be sent a link where you will confirm your perks, shipping address, and have the chance to add additional products. This will take place on our website, Conceptio.Design.
Conceptio is a product development and manufacturing studio in Harrisburg, PA. A passion for design and the maker movement caused Chris & Jerome's worlds to collide in 2015 and Conceptio was born. One of the first projects under Conceptio was Shackle 22; a Titanium key shackle which was successfully funded through Kickstarter. They have since been busy designing and fabricating signage, furniture, home decor, and every day carry items. We absolutely could not have brought this project to life without the support of families, close friends, and local businesses. A HUGE thank you to:
Risks and challenges
We are confident in our ability to manufacture the custom components, procure the commercially available glassware and corks, assembled into kits, and ship to our customers. Conceptio is responsible for three previously successful crowdfunding campaigns. This experience has provided us with valuable learning which we have accounted for in this campaign.
Fulfillment and shipping is always a difficult task and poses many challenges. Glassware is fragile and can break during shipment. We are working to ensure our process and packaging solution ensures that you get your product on time and in perfect condition.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
