"In what must be one of the smallest Kickstarter campaigns ever, a team of British developers called Concept96 is seeking just £1000 ($1600) to turn Chromecast into a multiplayer games platform." 9to5google.com
"Leveraging the dongle’s online capabilities to mix remote media with local “casting” is a perfectly achievable aim, something that adds credibility amidst a sea of “we wanna make an app” crowdfunders." omgchrome.com
"Chromecast’s powers may soon extend to the realm of online games" bgr.com
Games consoles are too expensive and only cater for specific types of gamers. We believe there is a gap in the market for a cheap device to enable friends and family to play casual games. Enter the unlikely candidate...
Chromecast: a family-friendly games console
Chromecast is a device by Google for steaming media from your smartphone to your TV. We believe that this great little device has so much more potential than others realise. We want to turn the Chromecast into a £30 multiplayer games console for casual gaming between friends and family. For your mother. For your father. For your young children.
Buzzb: a not-so-ordinary quiz game for Chromecast
Most quiz games all involve the same text-based questions across the same categories. In a world full of great media this is an abomination. We've re-invented the concept of a quiz game with Buzzb. We want to include all kinds of great video from YouTube. Audio from Soundcloud and images from all over the web to make Buzzb the most engaging and exciting quiz game of all time.
When you open the app for the first time you'll be able to create a new game or connect to an existing game on your Chromecast. Then you'll search and connect to your Chromecast. It's really simple.
Once all your friends and family have connected to the Chromecast the category selection opens for you to select a category. Most categories are free but some will require an in-app purchase. If you back us you'll get every premium category for free forever. When the game starts the question will be displayed on the TV and you'll be able to answer using your device, where there will also be a timer. It's really simple. Perfect for parents.
One of our core beliefs at Concept96 is that beautiful interfaces make great apps. We've put a tonne of time into ensuring that the Buzzb interface looks as fantastic as possible. We hope you agree that the colours and contrasts really pop off the screen. Trust us, it looks even better in person!
We want players to have as much focus on the TV as possible in order to increase competition and interaction between players. The phone interface is really, really simple. There's even a help button on most screens.
The TV interface contains the majority of information and will be the main focus of all players whilst playing Buzzb. Despite the increased information density we've kept it as simple as possible. This is the results screen - the top three players are on the traditional podium with some statistics on the right. Didn't finish in the top 3? Your position is displayed on your phone.
The game will be available on both Android (2.3+) and iOS (6+) for phones and tablets, along with Google Chrome on Windows, OSX and Linux.
'Tear and Share' DLC
With the ever increasing number of multiplayer-enabled games that include downloadable content or in-app purchases wouldn't it be great to be able to share them with your friends whist you play so you can all benefit?
In Buzzb, you'll be able to purchase additional question categories full of YouTube videos, images and music. if you purchase one of these categories then your friends and family can all use those categories when they play with you. What's the point of buying something if you can't share it? Sharing is caring!
We’ve set some additional milestones which will make Buzzb extra special if we beat our funding goal.
£5000: brain up! We’ll add arcade-style power-ups in the game, if you’re on a winning streak then you'll get a knowledge-boosting power-up to breeze through those difficult questions.
£10,000: people power! We'll open up submissions for extra categories and let you, our beloved Buzzb community, decide their fate.
£15,000: we’ll stock up on Red Bull and spend long, sleepless nights adding online multi-player. Play against friends or strangers from across the globe!
Over to you.
For us, Buzzb is just the start. We want to turn Chromecast into the cheapest mainstream games console specifically for casual games. We can only do this with your help and funding. Thanks for reading!
