About this project
WeedBazaar was an idea I had after playing the classic game "Dope Wars" on my phone. After playing it for awhile and thinking how this could be so much cooler if it were even the slightest bit more realistic, I set out to do just that and create a more modern and social version of that classic game.
This is the first game Ive ever made.
WeedBazaar is a "marijuana economics simulator" or at least, thats what its going to be when its all done. The idea is to allow players to experience the economics of the marijuana business. How the price of one players products affects other players product prices and how the prices of products affect the virtual customers and how much they buy.
The game works like this:
You have a choice of characters:
The dispensary owners job is to buy weed, concentrates and edibles from the various other players (Weed Farmers and Extractionist) and sell them in their virtual dispensary to virtual customers. You have to keep your dispensary stocked with products by keep your prices competitive with other players in order to get the most daily customers.
The weed farmers job is to grow the weed and bake the edibles that are bought by the dispensary owners and extractionist. The weed farmer has to buy lights, keep clones alive, etc. in order to produce weed for sale to the other players.
Extractionist make concentrated cannabis products. The extractionist buys weed from the weed farmers in order to produce concentrates for sale to the dispensary owners.
The Game Play:
The game is played by each player setting his or her own prices for the product they produce then getting other players to buy said products from them in order to make virtual money to expand their virtual dispensary, farm or laboratory.
You can also buy products from the games store that will improve your production quantity.
You can make political contributions to reduce the chances of being raided by the police.
You can even deposit your earnings in the bank and withdraw them as needed.

What is the $$ for?
The game needs a little fine tuning and polishing. I am not the best programmer and therefore I would like to hire somebody to help me finish the final few features that need work, but to also help fix any bugs in the existing code.
What needs finishing: Leader board, Pagination for player directory pages, online help and documentation, some functions related to the way dispensary players pay employees and security need work, forums need finalizing, invite friends and social sharing of players businesses needs to be added and like a handful of other small things and minor feature enhancements.
Id like to hire somebody who knows how to work with Phonegap to wrap the site in Phonegap using AppPressers free API plugin so it can be a native mobile app as well (iPhone and Android, sorry everybody else, theres just no market for your devices..).
Id also like to hire somebody to do some graphics work. The game needs a logo and some misc. graphics here and there. I also need to buy some stock photography to replace the images I've "borrowed" from Google Images that I couldn't produce on my own (ie, I didn't have a picture of that in my own photo archives).
The Future of WeedBazaar
Some of the things I have in mind for future versions of the game are things like:
- Court Cases - When you get raided you would have to deal with legal issues and cost associated with those issues.
- Including the cost of electricity.
- Including the cost of water.
- Opening additional locations.
- More realistic customer AI.
- Better statistics for players to know what's selling at what prices and whos buying.
- More products in the store for players to buy.
- Real strain names instead of generic or made up ones.
- Partnerships between players to share resources and money.
and there are more, I just cant think of them right now :)
Play the demo, if you think this game has potential, contribue a few bucks. Im super close to being done, this is a project near and dear to my heart, Id really like to see it completed (even if this project isnt funded, I will eventually finish it anyway).
Risks and challenges
Since I have already done most of the work and the guts of the game are already functioning, I don't foresee too many challenges. There is always the problem of feature-creep during the final development stages, but I promise to keep that in check and not let it get out of control and delay the games release.
If there are any problems, such as I am unable to finish the game by the deadline I've set and it looks hopeless to get it done anytime soon, Im sure we can work something out if you want a refund or want to abandon support for the project.
