This April 2015 The Con Artist Collective is celebrating it's 5 year anniversary, and we're celebrating by publishing a beautiful book. This will be a large format hardcover book with over 200 pages of artwork and photos from the collectives various shows, events and projects we've been involved in during our first 5 years.
14 Artists 14 Days: Limited Edition Artist Covers
Each day we're releasing a special limited edition artist cover, an original handmade book cover from an artist in the collective. Only $99 and only 10 will be available from each artist, and when they are gone, they are gone.
Each artist will be doing their original artwork, drawings and more giving each book an unique hand made cover, and signed by the artist. Get the book, a special limited edition original artwork cover, and support an emerging artist and member of the collective, all for only $99! Starting NOW.
*already bought the book? Increase your pledge to cover the cost of the book, select it as your new tier, and it's all yours! (as long as it's available)
The Con Artist Collective started in April 2010 in a basement in the Lower East Side. Slowly over the past 5 years we've grown to include nearly 500 artists, over 170+ gallery shows from Art Basel to London, and we've shown and documented thousand of original pieces of art, numerous creative projects, and so much more. We currently reside in a two floor 3000 square foot creative workspace and gallery at 119 Ludlow st. We're open to the public Mon - Sat 11am to 7pm, so please feel free to stop by. Check out our current lineup of shows and events, or learn more about joining the collective at conartistnyc.com
The concept of the book will be a visual documentation and catalogue of work, relying heavily on images and photographs. We'll be focusing on high quality reproductions of the many amazing artist's works, photographs of hundreds of events, and the diverse projects organized by the collective. If you would like a quick peek into the history, check out or past events blog at conartistnyc.com/blogs/past-events
In 2013 we got the opportunity to expand, and we built our current workspace and gallery at 119 Ludlow st. ourselves, designed and built entirely by members.
The $9,000 goal is not random, but a sort of magic number. We are going to print a beautiful book, with hundreds of pages on the highest quality paper. We've done our research, and once we hit our goal, it becomes possible to print the quality of book we want to make. We'll also be releasing stretch goals which will give us the chance to increase the size of the book, add more pages, and consider extras like embossing, spot colors and much more. We'll send updates as we get closer to hitting our goal.
We're currently sorting and editing 30,000 images for the book, we've begun the process of laying out the book, and we're currently on schedule to send everything to press in November 2015. To see a small sample of just some of the artists to be included in the book, check out our past events blog.

Risks and challenges
Our core team consists of 50+ years combined experience between Brian Shevlin, Lawrence Schaa, Miguel Ibarra, and Michael Sharp, who have published numerous books, designed hundreds of printed magazines and much more. Much of the book is already finished, but it isn't yet completed. We're finalizing the book's content, layout and design, and we're about to begin the proofing process. Our first priority is to get this book to you as soon as possible, currently estimated to arrive back from the printer around November 2015.
The future is always uncertain, but only a planet wide paper shortage, an ink embargo, or a suddenly enacted law against books could keep this project from meeting it's deadlines. If the unpredictable does occur, we can always be reached here at the Con Artist Collective 119 Ludlow st. NYC, and we'll be keeping everyone notified with regular updates throughout the entire project. Barring these and other unpredictable tragedies, we anticipate getting the book into our backer's hands mid December 2015.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
