Hi! I'm a happy snake who makes happy games · ◡ ·
I've never done a Kickstarter before now but discovered if I financed correctly that I can work full time on games with your support, and release more, bigger, better, games and have twice the fun doing it.
That sounds cool! I like snakes! But what is this project I'm investing in? Well, let me tell you all about my next project - QT: COMPENDIUM OF CUTENESS! · ◡ ·
QT COMPENDIUM OF CUTENESS - quick overview:
- 3 games out 3rd Jan 2020!!
- QT (game 1) is released with this Kickstarter! PLAY IT NOW FREE!!!
- The other two games are very cute. Check them out by scrolling down :)
QT is a very cute game with a very spooky beginning!
It is the third game in the MORNING POST, LIBRARY trilogy and, alongside the other games in the Kickstarter, is a perfect ending to the series.
Partly inspired by everyone on the internet thinking I was making cute games that turned out to be horror games, and partly by my fascination with cool 3D environments (like in first person horror games) but without wanting to spook anyone too much.
QT started as a funny side project and grew into something way bigger after I discovered how fun it was to explore a house in this way (if you don't know what I mean, you'll see when you play).
The game is super cute, has a dozen achievements and a whole lot of secrets to find · ◡ ·
MUSEUM is about exploring a museum and enjoying all the exhibits there are to see!
I've always wanted to make a game set in a museum, but was never quite sure how. The breakthrough came when I was exploring a natural history museum and taking notes on the flow of your journey with the layout of the exhibits. It feels super cool to be guided around a space made for looking at things, and it feels even cooler when you have the freedom to ignore these suggestions altogether.
The game itself is set it a big ol'museum that is partly its original building, and partly modern. There are tons of exhibits each one created because I thought it would be ultra fun and cute. At the moment there are ones about fish, frogs, water, ancient world history, the science of cuteness, and many many more to follow when we get backed.
There also might be something cheeky going on in the museum but I couldn't possibly comment! It could or could not have something to do with Weemble, but that would be pure speculation.
Check out some clips from the current build below:
A whole bunch of my time has gone into studying layouts and visiting a lot of museums to get cool info, a lot of which ends up in sketches and notes. Backers of the project will get a cool sketches and stuff like this in the project updates.
Here's some sketches of the first working layout of the museum:
The third game is KOUEN which means 'park' in Japanese.
Perhaps the hardest to explain, and the most experimental, Kouen is my first open world game. You are a park ranger and have a couple of areas to tend to on a sunny afternoon. You can walk and explore the park on your journey between places, and get super lost as you try to follow a map and stumble across strange things you didn't know existed.
The game is inspired by Nara Park (Japan) and part of the game involves some very, very cute feeding of deer. The other habitats (currently including frogs, beetles and carp) have different tasks that you can choose to complete, like returning frogs to their ponds and collecting bedding for the beetles.
The game is an exploration of open spaces and a love letter to all the times I get lost and find cute beetles and fish and stuff. The title, and many of the specific moments in it are inspired by Japan it's beautiful wildlife... especially the bugs and deer :)))
Here's a bunch of work in progress clips from some of the current areas:
Hey so you've looked at all the games but what does a snake need with money?
I basically just want money to pay rent so I can work on finishing these games full time. If I meet the minimum goal of £3,200 then I can survive till January 2020, enough time to get all the games finished and released :D
Alongside this I will also be able to pay bb tombo and Zack Alkek to make some incredible tunes for all 3 projects (they made the tracks for LIBRARY and an essential part of making these games cute). If we reach a further stretch goal, more songs will be added too :D
The best thing about this is that if the project goes well, I might be able to keep making games full time after this too :D
Here's what will happen in each tier if we reach higher than the minimum funding amount :D
£3,200 Base Tier - Base 3 games released in January :D
£5,000 Mid Tier - Addition of extra songs from Zack and Jiji, extra levels and characters added though out all 3 games :D
£8,300 Goal Tier - Additional 2 secret micro games added :D + more additional songs, characters and levels
£10,000 EXTRA GAME - Add a fourth game to the compendium!!! This game will be come out in February after the main compendium is released! (unlock this tier for announcement of the game).
£15,000 ANOTHER GAME - OKAY THIS IS AWESOME, I just wanna keep making games and if I get this amount I can continue for multiple months after the Kickstarter and release other games. I have literally hundreds of games designed and this buys me the time to make them :DDDD (I'll also get input from backers when deciding what the next project will be)!
£20,000 ANOTHER ANOTHER GAME - AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH OKAY OKAY WOW. Same as the previous tier I can make even more games! On 20,000 I can work full time for a ages making millions of games to stream directly to your computer screen. This would be truly amazing! This would also mean I can release the follow up games for less money and post more free articles on my patreon!
Who's gonna be making those sweet sweet tunes?
I am also excited to announce that both bb tombo and Zack Alkek will be making music for my games again :D I've worked with them both before on a handful of my other games and honestly their music make my visuals and game-play come to life. As mentioned above, if we receive stretch goals, additional songs will be added too :D
Zack Alkek is a audio wizard, 3D graphics creator and general midi lover. Based in San Francisco they make sweet sound design and audio production for a colourful variety of projects. You'll recognize Zack's work from the MORNING POST, LIBRARY and QT soundtracks! Zack's amazing unique style oozes cuteness and therefor matches perfectly with my games.
james / bb tombo is an experimental sound designer from seattle, wa. his music is imbued with small amounts of magic and lots of positivity. he's influenced by nature, the deeper mysteries of the universe, internet culture, and chief keef. when not designing game sounds, he's toiling away at the COLOREALM, a multimedia comic series. https://www.twitter.com/bbtombo
I've read a lot about this SNAKE, what other games has it worked on? why should I trust the worlds happiest snake?
I'm a cute green snake and I love making games! I'm particularly interested in lovely things that make people happy and super into being tagged as making 'wholesome' games.
People started noticing my work a couple years ago when I made MORNING POST for fun in my free time. Check out the trailer if you don't know the game:
I want to make games that make people happy and I'm pretty excited that I've managed to do this so far.
In support of the release of the QT Kickstarter I've also made special sales on all my digital stores so you can play my previous games 50% off!!!! Check them out now!
Thank you so much for reading all the way down!
Here is an image of me working extremely hard on the games for many months:
Please spread the word about Q.T! Tell your friends and your pets and any especially any moths that wonder into your house at night! :D
If you are press or run a blog or anything, you can check out my PRESS KIT over here for a bunch of resources for that. If you have any questions about the Kickstarter or any of the games, message me anytime at firstname.lastname@example.org :D
Risks and challenges
As you can see Q.T is almost entirely finished, and the other two games have been completely planned out. The biggest risk is that something happens to me, like getting ill or something, or that my delicious laptop breaks somehow.
In either event, if bad enough, the deadline might get pushed back, but I will finish the games and post any changes to the update log :)
