River City Ransom: Underground Now Has a Launch Date

In September 2013, following months of preparation and planning, we – a small group of passionate developers – posted a Kickstarter project to make a video game:

A love letter to Technōs Japan, whose fighting games filled our childhood afternoons. A new chapter in the quirky, fun, and endearing world of River City Ransom.

Launched on the first day Canadian Kickstarter projects were possible, we had no idea if ours would resonate. It did. Over 5,000 of you pledged your support, and together our journey began.

It wasn't easy. We wanted to do it right, to give you everything that we wanted to see in a fighting game: online multiplayer, co-op, arena death match, jaw-dropping fighting moves, hours of gameplay, Easter eggs, laughs, seemingly endless variety, and fun with friends.

To get there we have had to work far longer than any of us expected. We had to rebuild our engine. We often failed in our communication with you. But no matter how hard it got, our desire to see this game exist, and your excitement to play it, kept us going. Many of you told us to take our time, and get it right. We hope we have done exactly that.

And now, it is our absolute pleasure to present to you, our launch trailer:

Thank you to our beta backers, who have been helping us by their feedback. We are rapidly closing in on the final product, balancing the game (current setting: Nintendo Hard Was Easy), smoothing the edges, and making it more fun to play with fellow humans.

River City Ransom: Underground now has a release date, and it's February 27th, 2017.

BARF!

As someone who primarily backed this for a DRM-free copy, will GOG keys be made available in lieu of Steam keys?

    6. Conatus Creative Creator on February 4, 2017

To clarify- All backers who pledged $15 or more will receive a Steam Key on the 27th. If they are entitled to 1 copy of the game they will get 1 Steam key, good for any platform Steam supports. If they are entitled to 2 copies of the game they will get 2 Steam keys, good for any platform Steam supports
      and so on

      Thanks, Sarah team RCRU

I was responding to questions individually in GrooveHQ and then discovered that responses to Kickstarter comments in a thread never actually reach the recipients. Sorry for the delay!

We do plan to be on GOG!

All backers will receive a Steam key via email on Feb 27. Physical copies will ship soon after launch day, but not the day of, due to needing to have the "gold master" version of the DRM free edition. Physical copies are not boxed but jewel case and we don't plan on (at least not at the moment) making them available aside from Kickstarter backers' copies.

Release will be to Mac and PC, followed by Linux (which was the stretch goal).

Thanks for the support! Sarah team RCRU

So hyped for it, I kinda regret not purchasing the physical copy. Will there be any physical copies for sale in the future or maybe a limited physical copy on consoles? A couple of indie companies have worked with limitedrungames to port their games onto the PS4.

But no word about GOG. :(

Hey Conatus Creative folks, will the physical copies be shipping soon after (or on the same day **crosses fingers**) only reason I asked, is I backed with only a physical copy and no digital one (since you were kind enough to let me do that) included.

Just curious, and congrats, will be looking forward to playing it.

Yes! So happy it's coming out. I hope that down the road an Xbox One version is created.

Oh heck yes. I've enjoyed what I've played of the beta, despite the difficulty, and the approach of the full release is a tad exciting.

how can i verify what platform i have set for my version? its been so long i can not remeber what i have selected or if my selection is even relevant/ most ideal at this moment. is it just pc/mac? did ps4 or others become an option due to stretch goals??

    23. Avedon Arcade on February 1, 2017

You guys pulled it off! It always looked amazing from what you showed us. And I feel like it's lived up to the hype. The first kickstarter that I backed, and it looks to be the one that hit it's promise of creating the kind of game we all wanted.

Now if we can only get that as a downloadable game on the 3DS I can die happy.

      Way to go guys congrats!

(also can we get a poster of that final image? It looks dope!)
