About this project
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Hello! I’m Collette J Ellis, a full time freelance fantasy illustrator with a love of Dragons and passion for all things mythological.
Over the years I’ve worked on numerous publications for authors and album covers for musicians. I’ve exhibited at various conventions across the UK; including London, Manchester and Cardiff Comic Cons. In October 2016 I opened my third solo exhibition in the Oriel Ynys Mon on Anglesey, where the work of Welsh Artist Sir Cyffin Williams is also featured. Over the years I’ve been lucky to have been featured in several online blogs and magazines, including Imagine FX and I have been interviewed by arts programme ‘Y Lle’ on Welsh TV channel S4C.
My work involves a lot of mixed media, I refine my sketches digitally and finish my illustrations using pen, ink and watercolours.
This book is a 50 page illustrated guide to the mysterious creatures and mythical beasts believed to inhabit the lands of Wales. The book contains numerous creature profiles and legends each with an accompanying illustration.
Wales is my home country and holds a special place in my heart; I grew up surrounded by dramatic landscapes, legends of King Arthur, dragons and folk tales telling of mysterious creatures that inhabit the land.
A couple of years ago myself and my partner visited Iceland, the people there are so proud of their mythology. Sadly here in Wales many of our legends and mythical creatures have been forgotten over time. So over the last two years it became my mission to bring them back to the fore-front of Welsh culture and introduce them to a new generation.
Rather than making the book bilingual, I felt it was important to give the buyer a choice as to what language they would prefer to read it in. This was a tough decision, but I feel it gives the text room to breathe, creating a more enjoyable experience for the reader. You may choose to order your book in English or Welsh or you can buy both together with extra rewards thrown in:
There will be a deluxe edition of the book; featuring a canvas cover and gold embossed text / insignia and you guys get to decide what colour goes to print. For the duration of the kickstarter there will be a poll on the Facebook event.
You can join in with the art giveaways and vote for your favourite here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1683978425256979
The Deluxe version will also be available to pre-order in English or Welsh and will feature an additional aged map of Wales folded into an envelope inside the front cover.
The Deluxe book will also include:
- Sketch and linart for the standard cover art
- Double page spread of concept sketches
- Behind the scenes photos from the art exhibition at Oriel Ynys Mon
The first 40 deluxe orders will be treated as priority and will be dispatched first, these books will include a thank you sketch inside.
Please remember to let me know which print you would like to receive with your order, you will be sent a 'customer survey' once the KickStarter ends asking for your address and choice of prints + additional items.

A4 Art Prints to Choose From:
Backers must deliver the instructions for their commission and any reference material within 10 days of the Kickstarter closing, otherwise the artwork sent will be random. Please take into consideration that all commissioned work will be posted online - I will not draw anything including fetish matterial, extreme gore or sexual content, I like to try and keep my art reasonably family friendly :) Commissioned images can be shared and posted on the web with appropriate artist credit, but not sold or used commercially in any way by any person(s) or organization(s) other than Collette J Ellis – Flying Viper Illustration. The copyrights of all other images and products of this campaign are held by Collette J Ellis. These products are not to be used for resale, or used commercially by any other person(s) or organization(s) other than Collette J Ellis.
Please note; commissions take some time to complete, so will be sent separately to your order. You can keep an eye on commission progress via my social media accounts and this kickstarter campaign blog.

Please note that I can only reship an order once if it is lost. If the second parcel is lost, I will not be able to offer a refund.
CUSTOMS DISCLAIMER: Please be aware that some countries will charge a handling fee on items over a certain price / weight, unfortunately I have no control over this.
Should you wish to save on postage, you can pick up your copy from me in person at any of the shows listed on my websites ‘events’ page. Please contact me if you should wish to do this and we can arrange separate payment and pick up - www.collettejellis.com
I'm new to the world of publishing and this will be my first ever illustrated book. After witnessing many successful campaigns on Kickstarter, I felt it was the best place to raise publicity for my project. It also grants backers the opportunity to grab originals and commission slots which are often fully booked.
WHY CHOOSE MINUTEMAN PRESS?
I have chosen to have my book printed by 'Minuteman Press' in Bristol, in 2015 they won the UK printing Company of the Year and are renowned for their excellent customer service and high quality products. I will be collecting the final prints in person to ensure that the books are up to standard before being sent out to customers. The main challenges of this project are likely to be planning and time management. As mentioned, the cover art and exclusive illustrations for the book are complete, all I will need to do is place orders with the printers once the Kickstarter has finished.
Risks and challenges
Please allow time for me to have the books printed and shipped, this may take some time depending on the amount of orders, you will be able to keep an eye on my progress via the event blog and my social media accounts.
I've also set aside the time needed to complete all commissions and art works, so that I can give my all in creating some fantastic rewards for those backing this project! :) Xx
