Thank you to everyone who helped blow through my original goal! With so much time left, it's the perfect opportunity to go for a new goal! Help me to reach $2800 so I can increase the size of the first issue of Collectors from 48 pages to 64 pages!!! That's right! You get a bigger book with more pages! In return, I'm offering two new rewards:
New Reward #1: Custom Collectors blank variant cover art. You can get your hands on an original blank variant cover piece like the FF #1 cover below. Other blank variants that will be available are Daredevil #1, Action Comics #18, Age of Ultron #1 and Thanos Rising #1. More will be added and you will be able to chose your cover! For those of you who have already pledged and want a Collectors cover art piece, increase your pledge by $75 to add one to your already existing rewards.
New Reward #2: Write Collectors for a day. Think you have what it takes to out-funny me? Here's your chance to prove it! Write a Collectors comic strip (keeping with the style, format and characters, of course) and I will draw it, publish it and give you full credit!
What is Collectors?
Collectors is a full color, weekly comic strip published online every Sunday at www.CollectorsComic.com and is written and drawn by Eddie deAngelini.
Collectors is about Eddie, an average, married guy working hard to survive modern life. His big downfall: he is an obsessive comic book collector. He can tell you the issue number and year of the first appearance of the most obscure comic book characters before he could tell you his bank account number or the date of his wedding anniversary.
His loving wife, Kristen, sees the good in Eddie even when she’s at her wits end with his obsession. She may not understand it, but she’s learned to accept it and hopes to contain it and be her husband’s voice of reason.
"Collectors is loosely based on my own life, my comic book collecting and my wife Kristen's ever-tested patience with my love for my hobby," says Eddie. "Since starting the strip, so many other comic book fans have told me how much they relate to the humor and our relationship."
Here Comes the BIG First Issue!!!
Since debuting online in April 2012, a new Collectors comic strip has been published online EVERY Sunday and continues to this day. That's a lot of strips and a perfect time to collect all of the ones from 2012 in one annual! Throw in about a dozen pages of new, never before seen material and you've got the BIG 48 page first issue of Collectors!!! The issue is already in the final stage of completion and just about ready to go to print!
The project budget will go toward the print run (1,000 copies minimum) and fulfillment of all the rewards. The more that's raised the higher the print run will be. "Of course, I dream of going well over my goal and financing a large print run," explains Eddie. "The success of Collectors lies with the fans. The strip might be based on my wife and I, but it's ultimately about all of us and for all of us."
So What Do You Get?
You can get a digital and signed copy of Collectors #1, a limited edition Collectors art print that is a tip of the hat to the classic Amazing Fantasy #15 cover, a Collectors t-shirt, an original Collectors 11x17 penciled and inked comic strip and...(drum roll, please) one special person will have the chance to become a recurring character in future strips! That's right, you could be the wacky neighbor or co-worker!
Risks and challenges
The biggest obstacle is the question I sometimes get, "Why should I buy your comic if I can read them online for free?" The answer is simple. Collectors #1 will feature about a dozen pages of new strips and other new material that won't be available anywhere else. Also, everyone knows that the first issue of any comic series will be worth millions in the future! Plus, you'll want a copy of the print comic when you meet me at a convention because I can't sign your iPad or laptop!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
