Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Vancouver, Mexico City, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara: Notebook on Cities and Culture has visited all these places for in-depth conversations with cultural creators, internationalists, and observers of the urban scene. Last season, we planned on 24 episodes but put out 31, because hey, underpromise, overdeliver. The podcast's next season, its most ambitious yet, will see 60 full-length Notebook on Cities and Culture conversations recorded all around not just Los Angeles, but Toronto, Copenhagen, and London, three world cities meriting a great deal of conversational exploration indeed.
And for every $200 raised above the $8000 goal, we'll add another episode to season four's total episode count. So if we raise $9000, for example, season four will have 65 episodes, if we raise $10000, it will have 70 episodes, and so on.
Risks and challenges
The main challenges this season include scheduling trips to each city, and then scheduling each individual interview within them. However, those represent expansions of the challenges successfully met in the show's first, second, and third seasons, which themselves required a great deal of negotiation, rescheduling, improvisation, and last-minute substitution to pull off. As with the previous seasons, between six and eight podcast episodes should appear per month. Should any technical or logistical issues — recording gear failure, multiple guest sicknesses, flight cancellations — delay the completion of episodes at the established pace, we'll still record and post, in the fullness of time, a total of at least 60, no matter what — and should we raise more than our $8000 goal, even more than that.
